Makita LXT or G-series

Updated: 2026-10-23

You already own Makita 18 V packs, or you are about to buy a twin pack because the title says 18 V and the price includes two batteries. Both can be true and still leave you with a drill that will not start. The DHP487 and the DHP482 take LXT packs. BL1813G packs and a DC18WA stay on the HP457 family. Same voltage is not the same slot. The [Makita drill comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/makita-drill) shows which carton is which. Prices are the listings read on 21 October 2026. There is no lab test, and a qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two 18 V systems in this set

LXT is the slide-on 18 V family on the DHP482 and the DHP487. G-series is the other 18 V family here. Part Shop Direct describes the BL1813G as a 1.3 Ah pack for G-series only, with a white or grey top, charged on a DC18WA, and listed with the HP457D and the TD127D. That page says it is not compatible with LXT tools or LXT chargers, and marks the line as no longer available. That status is the parts shop's, not an amazon.co.uk stock flag. CXT is 12 V max and XGT is 40 V max. Neither is in these four rows. Use a DC18RC-class charger for LXT and a DC18WA for G-series. Either charger still needs a BS 1363 plug. A DC18WA will not charge an LXT pack, and an LXT charger will not charge a BL1813G.

Which carton is which

The DHP487Z bullets say the body is not compatible with G-series batteries. The compatible-devices line says Makita 18 V LXT batteries. At £86, with 4.7 from 879 reviews, it is a brushless body, and the title says the batteries and charger are not included. If your packs are BL1813G, the listing has already told you not to buy it. The DHP482 listing at £97 is LXT again. The part number is DHP482Z and the included line is a 100-piece bit set, not a pack. It matches the DHP487's family and it does not match a BL1813G.

What the £180 listing leaves out

B00NBYH3YS at £180 never prints G-series, BL1813G or DC18WA. The bullets name an HP457, a TD127D, two 1.3 Ah batteries, a hard case and three gold bits. The model cell prints XDT16T, which is neither tool. A charger is not in the included line. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 48 reviews. Nothing on the spec table says the slot differs from a DHP pack. The £180 row is £2.50 less than the row that names BL1813G and a DC18WA. The named row is still the wrong slot for LXT, but you can see the family before you pay. Do not force the pack or buy a charger from the other family and hope. The how to use a Makita combi drill page assumes the pack you own already fits.

If you already own one family

If your packs are LXT, stay with the DHP487Z or the DHP482 listing. Do not add a twin pack because the title says 18 V and the carton includes batteries. Those batteries will sit in the case. A white or grey top is not proof of G-series unless the code on the pack is BL1813G. If you already own G-series, the DK18015X2 matches the codes, and the DHP487 listing tells you to leave it. Register a consumer tool within 30 days if you want Makita UK's extra two years. Registration does not make a G-series pack fit an LXT drill.

Common questions

Why will an 18 V pack from the twin pack not click onto a DHP487?
Because the twin-pack packs are G-series and the DHP487 is LXT. The DHP487Z bullets say it is not compatible with G-series batteries. The £182.50 bullets name the packs as BL1813G. Part Shop Direct says that pack is not for LXT tools. The voltage on the title is the same number for both. The terminals are not.
What charger belongs to a BL1813G?
A DC18WA. That is the charger named in the DK18015X2 bullets and the charger Part Shop Direct pairs with the BL1813G. It needs a UK BS 1363 plug, like any charger you use on a household socket. An LXT charger is the wrong class for this pack.
Does the £180 listing say G-series?
No. B00NBYH3YS never prints G-series, BL1813G or a charger model. It prints two 1.3 Ah batteries, an HP457 and a TD127D, while the model cell says XDT16T. Absence of the word G-series is not evidence that the packs are LXT. It is a gap in the listing.
Can you use the twin-pack batteries on a Makita radio or other LXT tools?
The reviews on the £180 listing say no. One pack did not fit the buyer's Makita radio, and other buyers say the packs do not fit the usual 18 V batteries on the Makita tools they already own. The £182.50 sample does not contain a review that says the BL1813G fitted an LXT tool.
Is CXT or XGT in this set?
No. CXT is 12 V max and XGT is 40 V max. The four listings here are 18 V tools, split between LXT and G-series. If a search result is an XGT drill, it is a different comparison. The slot would be a third system, and none of these packs would run it.
Are replacement BL1813G packs still a current Part Shop Direct line?
Part Shop Direct marks the BL1813G page as no longer available. That is the parts retailer's status for that part number. It is not a statement of whether amazon.co.uk has the twin-pack ASIN in stock today. If you need a replacement pack later, that line is a reason to be wary of starting on G-series.
