Long screwdriver bits buying guide

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are halfway into a kitchen carcass, the 25 mm bit has already run out of room, and the screw packet says PZ2. A long screwdriver bits buying guide has to separate three decisions that a title often glues together: the drive, the length, and whether the word impact describes the bit or only the packet. This page uses nine amazon.co.uk listings saved on 21 October 2026, with shelf prices from £7.99 to £19.99. There is no lab test. The [long bits comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/long-bits) lines the same packs up. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Match the drive before the length

UK wood screws are mostly Pozidriv. Plasterboard screws are often Phillips. Many appliance covers use a pinned Torx. BuildWiz maps PZ2 to wood screws of about 3.5–5 mm and PH2 to plasterboard. Those bands are that guide's table, so the packet marking still decides the bit. A Phillips tip in a Pozidriv screw cams out. Saxton and Rennie are PZ2 only. One GEINXURN listing is ten 150 mm PH2 bits, and the other is PH1 to PH3. Pronese mixes PZ2 and PH2. WojBear is one each of slotted, PZ and PH sizes at 90 mm. toolant is security Torx from TT7 to TT40, listed as 6 inches. A PH2 pack can reach a PZ2 hinge and still cam out.

90 mm, 100 mm or 150 mm

Ninety to 100 mm reaches many recesses. A 150–152 mm bit reaches further and flexes more. Use the shortest length that still seats. A small lean at the driver becomes a miss at the tip once the steel is 150 mm long. WojBear is 90 mm. Bestgle is listed at 100 mm, also written as 4 inches, and one UK review puts usable length at about 80 mm once the bit sits in the driver. Saxton is 152 mm PZ2 and Rennie is 150 mm PZ2. The GEINXURN Phillips packs and the long half of Pronese are 150 mm. toolant prints 6 inches and does not also print 150 mm. The Bahco 59/S54BC extract does not state lengths. UK Planet Tools, a retailer sheet rather than the amazon specification, lists most bits at 25 mm, some at 125 mm and three Torx at 150 mm. UK reviews say the long bits are about 150 mm. Neither note is a length row on the extract.

Impact claim, shank and magnet

S2 on a bullet is a steel name. It does not prove the tip will survive an impact driver. ISO 1173:2001 covers drive-end size and a torque test, not tip life. Bosch GB labels 1/4 inch hex bits as C 6.3 or E 6.3. Quote that code only when the listing prints it. Most of these extracts do not. A 1/4 inch hex shank is the usual fit. A named drill brand on a bullet is a fit claim, not an approval. Look for a torsion zone as well as the word impact. Pronese says impact torsion, and UK reviews describe sheared tips. Bestgle says anti-impact and does not name a torsion zone. Saxton says impact duty, Rennie says impact bits, and toolant names a torsion zone. Bahco has no impact claim. A magnet still cams out if the drive is wrong.

Which of these packs fits that brief

For PZ2 screws at about 150 mm, Saxton at £12.99 with 4.4 from 215 reviews is the dedicated ten-pack. The 62 HRC bullet is a listing claim, and two UK texts describe snapped tips. Rennie at £13.99 adds a plastic case, at 4.5 from 63 reviews, and fourteen UK texts disagree on tip life. If the packet says PH2, the GEINXURN ten-pack at £9.99 is Phillips only. The mix at £11.99 covers PH1 to PH3, with D2 in the title and S2 in the table. Pronese at £9.99 splits both crosses, and UK texts include sheared tips. toolant at £19.99, with 4.6 from 4,853 reviews, is security Torx. Skip it for timber. Bahco prints 9 g, which is not a credible weight for 54 pieces.

Common questions

Should you buy 90 mm or 150 mm?
Buy the shortest bit that seats. Ninety to 100 mm covers many carcass recesses and stays stiffer. A 150 mm or 152 mm bit reaches past a rail, and a small tilt shows up at the tip. WojBear is 90 mm, Bestgle is listed at 100 mm, and the PZ2 ten-packs are 150 mm and 152 mm.
Is a 6 inch listing the same as 150 mm?
toolant's security Torx set is listed as 6 inches. That extract does not also print 150 mm, so this page leaves the length in the words on the listing. Bestgle prints both 100 mm and 4 inches. Do not convert one listing into another's number.
Do you need PZ2 or PH2 for UK wood screws?
Most UK wood screws are Pozidriv, so a PZ2 bit matches a packet marked PZ2. Plasterboard screws are often Phillips. BuildWiz puts PZ2 near wood screws of about 3.5–5 mm, and your packet marking wins if the two disagree. Saxton and Rennie are the PZ2 ten-packs here.
Does S2 mean the bit will survive an impact driver?
No. S2 is the steel name on several bullets. ISO 1173 does not cover tip life. Packs that say impact still have UK reviews of sheared tips, including Pronese, Saxton and Rennie. Look for a torsion zone as well, and stop if the tip walks.
When is a mixed 54-piece set the wrong long-bit buy?
The Bahco 59/S54BC is the wrong buy when you need a stated 150 mm PZ2 pack. The amazon extract does not print lengths. A retailer sheet describes 25 mm, 125 mm and a few 150 mm Torx bits. For ten identical PZ2 bits at a printed length, choose Saxton or Rennie.
