Einhell Solo versus kit

Updated: 2026-10-23

The about £24.98 listing looks cheap until you open the carton and find a body with no battery and no charger. Einhell Solo versus kit is that decision. Buy the Solo only when a Power X-Change battery and a UK-plug charger are already at home. Otherwise price a kit, or a Solo plus a starter kit, before you call it cheap. The [Einhell cordless drill 18V comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/einhell-cordless-drill-18v) holds the twelve rows. Drill prices are not a live check on 20 October 2026. What Solo means on these listings

Solo is the tool only. Einhell's line is zero batteries and zero chargers. In this set the Solo rows are the TC-CD 18/35 at about £24.98, the TE-CD 18/50 Li-i BL at about £53.95, the compact TP-CD 18/50-C at about £76.95, the TP-CD 18/80 at about £76.98, and the TP-CD 18/120 at about £96.95. None of those included-components lines lists a case. A Power X-Change pack from another Einhell tool can run any of those bodies, from 1.5 Ah to 8 Ah. This page will not invent a runtime. Registration, on the how to use page, does not drop a battery into a Solo box.

When the bare body is the cheaper path

The bare body is the cheaper path when the battery and the charger are already paid for. The TC-CD 18/35 Solo at about £24.98, with 4.6 from 3,849 reviews, is then a light driver for screws and small timber holes. It is brushed, single speed, 10 mm, and it has no hammer. Einhell's shop listed that Solo at £36.95 on 21 October 2026, above the amazon.co.uk capture. Do not average the two shelves. The TE-CD 18/50 Li-i BL at about £53.95 is the top pick on the best page when you already have a pack, with the chuck size unstated. The TP-CD 18/80 at about £76.98 adds listed torque and a stated 13 mm chuck, still with no battery. Paying about £75 for two spare packs is the wrong direction.

When a kit is the cheaper path

A first-time buyer who adds a starter kit to the about £24.98 Solo is no longer buying a £25 drill. On 21 October 2026 a 4.0 Ah pack with a fast charger sat at about £37 to £45: amazon.co.uk at £36.49, Einhell's shop at £40.95, Toolstation at £39.99 and Wickes at £45. Added to £24.98 they land near £62 to £70, and the tool is still a brushed driver with no hammer. The TE-CD 18/44 kit at about £44 includes one 2.5 Ah pack and a charger, and states a hammer, a 13 mm chuck and two speeds. That carton beats the Solo-plus-starter sum for a first combi. The about £43 TC-CD kit still has no hammer. The about £75 two-battery kit needs the 10 mm chuck field checked. If the job is unclear, use the buying guide.

Plug, case, and amp-hour conflicts

A charger for a UK socket needs a BS 1363 plug, or a compliant conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse, under regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. One kit's UK reviews reported a Euro two-pin plug and no adaptor. Look at the pins. Do not charge a two-pin charger from a bathroom shaver socket. A case is real only when the included-components line lists one: the S35 on the about £75 kit, the E-Box on the TE-CD 18/2 at about £89.95, and the case on the TE-CD 18/40 at about £110. The TP-CD 18/60 at about £113.95 conflicts between 2.0 Ah and 4 Ah. Do not pay that price until the live carton settles the cells.

Common questions

What does Einhell Solo mean?
Solo means the body only. Einhell describes it as zero batteries and zero chargers. In this set that covers the about £24.98 TC-CD, the about £53.95 brushless combi, and the Professional Solos from about £76.95 to £96.95. The shipping carton is not a case.
Is a Solo cheaper if you already have a Power X-Change battery?
Yes, if the charger you already own has a UK plug and the body matches the job. The about £24.98 driver is then cheaper than the about £43 kit's extra 1.5 Ah cell and a second charger. If you have no pack, the Solo price is only the first line of the sum.
What should a first-time buyer add to a bare body?
A Power X-Change battery and a charger, or a kit that already includes both. A 4.0 Ah starter at about £37 to £45, plus the about £24.98 Solo, lands near £62 to £70 and is still a driver without a hammer. The about £44 TE-CD 18/44 kit states hammer mode.
Does the kit include a case?
Only when the included-components line says so. The about £75 kit lists an S35 E-Box. The about £89.95 TE-CD 18/2 lists an E-Box. The about £44 hammer kit does not. A case mentioned only in reviews is not the same as a case in the components line.
Which kits in this set disagree about the battery size?
The TP-CD 18/60 at about £113.95 is the clear clash. A bullet and one UK review say 2 x 4 Ah, and the included-components line says 2 x 2.0 Ah. Do not compare it until the live page and the carton agree.
