Top pick

The Ryobi R18PD3-215GZ is about £97.80 with two ONE+ 1.5 Ah batteries and a charger. The listing prints 50 Nm, a 13 mm chuck, 24 clutch settings and two speeds, and the bullets name masonry, wood, plastic, metal and screws. UK reviews call it light enough for everyday DIY, and the packs also run other ONE+ tools. The warranty line is two years, or three if you register. It is the wrong spend if you need a case or a larger pack. The included-components line lists a double-ended bit and no case. One review describes a battery that died after about four months. The listing does not say brushless. If the wall is the question, read the combi drill for brick page before you treat masonry as concrete.

Best value

The EasyImpact 18V-40 is about £64.97 with one 1.5 Ah battery, the AL 18V-20 charger and a case. It is 4.7 from 631 ratings. The bullets name impact drilling in masonry, a 13 mm chuck and 40 Nm. Bosch's UK manual limits that to brick, at 13 mm in masonry and steel and 30 mm in wood, with 20 Nm soft and 38 Nm hard. UK reviews praise the case and say drill bits are not included. One 1.5 Ah pack is the limit for a long session. Amazon's speed cell says 1,450 rpm. The manual says 0–430 and 0–1,630 rpm, so prefer the manual. The drill-type cell says impact driver, which is a listing conflict. A two-battery EasyImpact is a different ASIN. A lower price does not move packs from another platform across.

Who should skip both

Skip both if the job is concrete, a lintel, engineering brick or a chase. Bosch DIY says a combi is not the tool for concrete, and neither role changes that. The split is on the combi drill vs SDS page. Skip the Ryobi if you need the case in the carton. Skip the Bosch if you need two packs. Skip both if you already own Einhell Power X-Change or a closed 21 V kit you intend to keep. Also skip any ranking that uses the BCD700 torque cells. They say 1 inch pound. A sales rank of number 1 is not the same evidence as 7,197 ratings.

Why the highest number is not the pick

The DCA ADJZ20V-120i is 4.8 from 37 ratings at about £93.49, with 120 Nm, brushless stated, a 13 mm chuck and one 4.0 Ah battery in the bullets. Thirty-seven ratings are the smallest sample here. UK reviews call the tool heavy. The weight cell is 4.92 kg, and reviewers do not agree whether the carton has one battery or two. The 120 Nm cell is a screwdriving claim, not joules, and it does not mean a faster hole in brick. Wood and metal cells both say 13 mm. A Bosch AdvancedImpact or a GSB 18V-55 on a magazine list is not one of these ten ASINs.

Common questions

Which kit is the top pick, and who is it for?
The top pick is the Ryobi R18PD3 starter kit at about £97.80, 4.7 from 7,197 ratings, 50 Nm, a 13 mm chuck and two 1.5 Ah ONE+ batteries. It is for shelves, flat-pack and light brick if you may add other ONE+ tools.
Which is the best value, and who should skip it?
The best value is the Bosch EasyImpact 18V-40 at about £64.97, 4.7 from 631 ratings, with masonry named in the bullets, a 13 mm chuck, a case and one 1.5 Ah battery. Skip it for a long session on that single pack, if you need bits in the carton, or if the job is concrete.
Why not the 120 Nm drill with 4.8 stars?
The DCA 120 Nm row has 37 ratings, a weaker sample than the Ryobi's 7,197. The weight cell is 4.92 kg. The torque figure does not drill brick faster, and it is not a joule rating for concrete.
Is the Ryobi brushless?
No. Brushless is not in the bullets or the special-features cells for R18PD3-215GZ. Which? records this model as brushed. Other Ryobi models that are brushless are different tools. Do not transfer that word across because the brand matches.
Is one 1.5 Ah battery enough?
It is enough for household screws and a few plug holes, which is how UK reviews talk about both the Ryobi packs and the single Bosch pack. It is tight for a long drilling session. The Ryobi kit gives you two 1.5 Ah packs, so one can charge while you use the other. The EasyImpact 18V-40 gives you one.
Will either drill concrete?
No. Bosch DIY says a combi can impact-drill masonry and is not the tool for concrete or reinforced concrete. The EasyImpact 18V-40 manual limits impact drilling to brick. A lintel is where you stop and look at an SDS, or call a professional.
I already own a different battery system. Does the badge still apply?
The badge is for a buyer choosing inside this set, not a reason to scrap packs you already own. If you are on Power X-Change, the Einhell kit in the table shares that platform and costs about £110, with the plug caveat in the UK reviews. If you are on a closed 21 V kit, neither badge runs those packs. Match the system first.
