Bosch rotary hammer buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are looking at ten Bosch hammers on amazon.co.uk, and the watt cells do not agree with the titles. A Bosch rotary hammer buying guide for this set starts with the hole you actually need, then the shank, then whether a house socket, a 110 V title or an 18 V pack matches the building. Shelf prices and scope lines sit on the [Bosch rotary hammer comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/bosch-rotary-hammer). A qualifying Amazon purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The Products Compared editorial team prepared this on 22 October 2026 from the UK listings and Bosch's GB pages. There is no lab test.

Start with the hole, not the watt cell

A red wall plug in brick is a short hole, often around 6 mm to 8 mm, not a 22 mm concrete bore and not a slab. The GBH 2-21 listings print concrete up to 22 mm and 2.0 J. The UniversalHammer listings print concrete up to 16 mm and 2.0 J. The GBH 2-28 is the only row that prints 3.2 J, at £253.21, and it still does not print a concrete diameter. Bosch's GB note puts SDS-max at about 8.5 J and up, and nothing here is SDS-max. A watt cell is a poor substitute for the diameter: the PBH title is 550 W, the GBH 2-28 title is 880 W while its cell says 850 W, and part 0611927000 prints 80 Nm beside an SDS-plus title.

Shank and a written chisel mode

SDS-plus bits are not the round-shank masonry bits in a combi kit. The UniversalHammer rows, both GBH 2-21 kits and the GBH 2-28 name SDS-plus. The PBH bullets say a keyless chuck, and reviews say SDS-plus bits are required and that a round-shank adapter is bulky and extra. The bullets name a chisel mode on the PBH, both UniversalHammers and both GBH 2-21 rows. The GBH 2-28 puts chisel use on the compatible-devices line. The GBH 18V-18 X does not name chiselling. Part 0611927000, the GBH 18V-22 X and the GBH 18V-22 leave chisel mode off the bullets. Two named roles are on the best Bosch rotary hammer page.

Socket, 110 V title, or an 18 V pack

A house 13 A socket is the corded PBH at £59.94, whose voltage cell says 220 V, or the GBH 2-21 titled 230 V at £120.15. The GBH 2-28 title says 240 V and the cell says 230 V, the same domestic band stated two ways. The GBH 2-21 titled 110 V, at £134.99, says 110 V in the title and 220 V in the voltage cell, with 14 A in the amperage cell. HSE's guidance for a construction site is cordless tools, or 110 V centre-tapped to earth. That rule does not repair a page that contradicts itself, so you check the plug before you treat that ASIN as the site hammer. Which lead or battery suits a ladder is on the cordless or corded rotary hammer page.

What the box actually contains

Only the UniversalHammer kit, at £132.60, lists a battery and a charger: one PBA 18V 2.5 Ah pack and an AL 18V-20, plus a carrying case. A cell also prints 3000 mAh. The body at £97.92 says without battery. The four blue 18 V rows are bodies too, from the GBH 18V-18 X at £116.95 to the GBH 18V-22 at £180.99 in an L-BOXX, and none includes a pack. Bits are itemised only on the two GBH 2-21 kits, at 6, 8 and 10 mm. The PBH title says a case and the included-components cell only says 1. Green packs and blue packs are different rails, on the Bosch green or professional rotary hammer page. The amazon impact cell for the PBH is empty. Bosch's DIY page for model 06033A9370 prints 1.7 J, and that figure stays on Bosch's page.

Common questions

Will the masonry bits from a combi fit?
Not if the hammer is SDS-plus only. The UniversalHammer, both GBH 2-21 kits and the GBH 2-28 name that shank. The PBH bullets say a keyless chuck, while reviews say SDS-plus bits are required and that a round-shank adapter is extra. OneChuck on the GBH 18V-18 X and the GBH 18V-22 X also names cylindrical and hex bits.
Which listings include a battery and a charger?
Only the UniversalHammer kit at £132.60 lists one PBA 18V 2.5 Ah pack and an AL 18V-20 charger, and a cell also prints 3000 mAh. The body at £97.92, and every blue 18 V row, leave the pack out of the scope line. A capacity cell on a body-only page is not a battery in the carton.
Why do the two GBH 2-21 rows disagree on voltage?
They are different listings. The £120.15 row is titled 230 V, model 06112A6071. The £134.99 row is titled 110 V, model 06112A6061, while its voltage cell says 220 V and its amperage cell says 14 A. Do not assume the plug until you see the plate.
What do I use when the listing prints no joules?
Use the job and the scope line. The amazon impact cell is empty on the PBH, the GBH 18V-18 X, part 0611927000, the GBH 18V-22 X and the GBH 18V-22. Bosch's DIY page prints 1.7 J for the PBH, and Bosch's GB page states 1.9 J for the GBH 18V-22. Those figures stay on Bosch's pages.
When is this set the wrong shelf?
When the hole needs SDS-max. Bosch's GB note puts that class at about 8.5 J and up, and nothing here is SDS-max. A whole tiled floor was already too much for one PBH buyer. If you cannot trace cables or pipes, that is a professional visit, not a larger watt cell.
