Spot weld drill set contents and what the kit holds

Spot weld cutter crowns, a drill bit and pilot pins laid out beside an open case

A 13-piece spot weld set can be one cutter and ten hole openers. Compare 9-piece shop lists, the BGS 1632 bullets and a 12-piece pack before you buy.

You have a 9-piece kit and a 13-piece kit open at the same time, and the higher number is doing the persuading. Spot weld drill set contents are the parts the pack list actually names. A piece can be a crown, a pilot, a key, a hole saw or a hole opener, and only some of those parts cut a spot weld. The lists below come from three UK tool-shop pages and from the pack lines for BGS 1632, Wjelet and Gosknor, plus listing fields that disagree on Topcloud, VBVOO and Gainsten.

Shop prices are in GBP. This is a contents check from those pages, done by Products Compared in October 2026, and it is not a lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links to amazon.co.uk can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

In short

A crown set in these sources names 8 mm and 9.5 mm cutting parts, spare heads or double-ended crowns, a drill or pilots, and sometimes a key or a case. The Wjelet 13-piece list is one cutter, two centre drills and ten hole openers. The Gosknor 12-piece list includes five hole saws. Count the cutters in the bullets, and keep a pieces field of 1, a contradictory set name, or an included-components line that says NO as a clash.

What a crown set usually lists

The three shop pages itemise a small crown kit. A 9 piece spot weld cutter, on these pages, is a short list of diameters and holders, and the nine is a label you should add up where the nouns allow it.

DSD Tools lists a US PRO 9-piece set at £14.99: one 8 mm cutter, one 9.5 mm cutter, spare heads, pins and a hex wrench. The spares are unnumbered, so you cannot rebuild nine from every noun. That page is the best value of the three if a lower shelf price matters more than a spare-head count you can audit. W Tools Direct at £18.95 does add up: one 9.5 mm cutter, one 8 mm cobalt drill, five heads and two pins. Pins locate the cutter. They are not extra crowns.

Laser Tools set 7048, on the Basic Welding page, is listed at £36.45: five double-ended 9.5 mm heads, an 8 mm cobalt bit, pins and a case. The pins are unnumbered. The gap is £21.46 above DSD and £17.50 above W Tools Direct, and none of the three pages records how many welds a head survived. Those prices are shop-page prices, not amazon.co.uk shelf prices. The BGS 1632 bullets list a 9.5 mm double cutter, an 8 x 80 mm cobalt drill, five double-ended crowns and two pilots. The pieces field says 1, and that field cannot replace the list. The spot weld drill comparison is where that set sits next to single bits.

The two mixed kits

The Wjelet list is the 13 piece spot weld set in plain numbers: one cutter, two centre drills and ten hole openers. Ten of the thirteen pieces are hole openers. The title can be honest about quantity and still describe a different job from a crown set. The included-components field says NO, which clashes with the pack list. The pack list is the contents. NO is a broken field, neither proof the box is empty nor proof that thirteen pieces were checked.

The Gosknor 12-piece list is three bits, two drills, five hole saws, an Allen key and a guide pin. Five of the twelve are hole saws, so hole saws in a spot weld kit raise the piece count the way hole openers do on the Wjelet list. The list states no diameters. Inventing an 8 mm or a 10 mm would be a guess. How many cutters are in a 12-piece spot weld set is not twelve. It is whatever you call a cutter among three bits and two drills, written apart from five hole saws.

A centre drill, a guide pin and an Allen key belong in the piece count. They are not spare crowns. Five double-ended crowns, on the BGS bullets and on Laser 7048, are five heads at 9.5 mm, each with two ends. That is one diameter, not ten cutters. The buying guide puts a mixed kit against a single diameter when you already know you only need one size.

Fields that fight the title

BGS 1632 shows the clash in one listing. The bullets name the double cutter, the cobalt drill, five crowns and two pilots, and the pieces field says 1. If a table reads only that field, the set looks like a single tool. The cobalt wording belongs to the 8 x 80 mm drill, not to a separate steel grade for the crowns.

On VBVOO the set-name field contradicts the title. When two name fields disagree, neither one becomes the contents by default. On Gainsten the model field says left-handed. Because that word sits in a field recorded as fighting the title, confirm rotation on the title and the bullets of the live amazon.co.uk page before you decide which way the chuck should turn. Wjelet's included-components field says NO against a full pack list. You cannot use NO as the contents.

Topcloud is a clash between the title and one delivered box. One UK review says there was no drill bit in the box. One order is one order. It does not prove every Topcloud parcel omits the bit. A photograph of a kit is weaker than a written contents line. None of these fields is a star rating or a price. If amazon.co.uk has edited the page, the live bullets are the list you pay against. Our cutter and bit page separates a crown kit from a solid bit once the contents are clear.

How to count cutters, not pieces

Do this before you let a 9-piece title lose to a 13-piece title.

  1. Write the title's piece number on its own line, and leave it until the pack list is written out.
  2. List every named part in the seller's words: cutter, crown, head, drill, pin, key, case, hole saw, hole opener.
  3. Put crowns, cutters and spot-weld drills in one column, pins, keys and cases in a second, and hole saws and hole openers in a third.
  4. Add the columns only after the names are down, then compare that sum with the title.
  5. If a pieces field, set name, model field or included-components line disagrees, write the clash beside the list. Do not average the two stories.

On these lists the cutting column is the 8 mm and 9.5 mm cutters, heads and drills already named. The third column is what makes Wjelet thirteen and Gosknor twelve look larger: ten hole openers, or five hole saws. A pieces field of 1, or a components line that says NO, stays a clash to recheck on the live page.

When the title matches the sum of every column, it is a count of objects. When a third column holds the majority, the larger kit is larger because of hole saws or hole openers. A pilot with nowhere to sit lets the crown walk, which is why a centre punch is a separate step in the how to use guide. Five hole saws do not give you five more attempts at the same crown.

Where the list still stops

Diameters named on the shop pages and on the BGS bullets are 8 mm and 9.5 mm. Three-eighths of an inch is 9.525 mm, which is why a 9.5 mm crown sits next to a 3/8 inch description. Ten millimetres is 0.475 mm larger than 9.525 mm. If a title prints 10 mm and 3/8 inch as one size, use the diameter the bullets state. None of the DSD, W Tools Direct or Laser lines names a 10 mm cutter.

A contents list does not say how many welds a head will cut, and this page will not invent that number. It does not choose a drill speed or a repair method for high-strength steel. Double-ended describes the head. It does not mean the bit is left-handed. We did not run these sets in a workshop, and there is no UK market size here. The only GBP amounts in this research are £14.99, £18.95 and £36.45. Match the parcel to the bullets before a panel is cut, and raise a mismatch with the seller.

Common questions

What is a normal 9-piece or 10-piece spot-weld set?
On these shop pages a 9-piece spot-weld set is a small crown kit in 8 mm and 9.5 mm, with a drill, pins, and sometimes a key or a case. W Tools Direct at £18.95 lists one 9.5 mm cutter, one 8 mm cobalt drill, five heads and two pins. DSD Tools at £14.99 lists two cutter sizes plus unnumbered spares. Laser 7048 at £36.45 lists five double-ended 9.5 mm heads, an 8 mm cobalt bit, pins and a case.
What is in the BGS 1632 bullets?
The BGS 1632 bullets list a 9.5 mm double cutter, an 8 x 80 mm cobalt drill, five double-ended crowns and two pilots. The pieces field says 1, which clashes with that list. Count the bullets. One recorded piece cannot stand in for a double cutter, a drill, five crowns and two pilots. The cobalt wording we have sits on the drill, and the five crowns are double-ended heads at 9.5 mm, not five extra sizes.
What is in the Wjelet 13-piece pack list?
The Wjelet 13-piece list is one cutter, two centre drills and ten hole openers. Ten of the thirteen pieces are hole openers. The included-components field says NO, which clashes with the pack list. Use the one, two and ten as the contents, and treat NO as a broken field. The list gives you one cutter for the welds, then a different tool repeated ten times.
What is in the Gosknor 12-piece pack list?
The Gosknor 12-piece list is three bits, two drills, five hole saws, an Allen key and a guide pin. That adds to twelve. Five pieces are hole saws, so hole saws in a spot weld kit are raising the piece count. The list does not state diameters. The cutter count is the bits and drills named there, kept apart from the hole saws, the key and the guide pin.
Does the Topcloud title prove a drill bit was in the box?
No. One UK review says that Topcloud order arrived with no drill bit. The title does not prove the bit was in the box. One review does not prove that every box omits it. Check the live bullets, then check the parcel against them. A photograph, and the word set on its own, are weaker evidence than a written contents line you can count.
Why does a set-name field contradict the title?
On VBVOO the set-name field contradicts the title. Two name fields that disagree cannot both be the contents you rely on. Keep the clash, and wait for a pack list you can count. Do not merge the two names into a description neither field gives. The same rule covers a pieces field of 1, and a model field that says left-handed when the title and the bullets still need to agree.
Is 10 mm the same as 3/8 inch?
No. Three-eighths of an inch is 9.525 mm, the figure behind a 9.5 mm crown. Ten millimetres is 0.475 mm larger. The shop lists here name 8 mm and 9.5 mm. If a title pairs 10 mm with 3/8 inch, use the diameter the bullets state. A 9.5 mm head and a 10 mm head are different cutters, even when a title treats one of them as the same size as 3/8 inch.
