Door security bar vs door jammer

Updated: October 2026

A door security bar vs door jammer choice is which object your door can actually meet: a telescopic pole, or a flat plate for a hotel stay or a lever that will not take a yoke. They are not the same object

A door security bar here is a telescopic brace, with a yoke under the lever and a foot on the floor. The DoorJammer DJ3, ASIN B07HM7X6TT, is an under-door plate, 108 × 40 × 70 mm and 210 g, at about £22.72 with 4.4 from 2,799 reviews on 19 October 2026. Slide the flange under the closed door, turn the screw, and pull upwards to release it. The yoke routine is on the how to use a door security bar page. The plate needs no lever. The pole needs a lever and a floor it can grip.

Weight decides the journey

The DJ3 is 210 g. The Defender HA00721 is 590 g and 73 to 113 cm, at about £21.95. The Amazon Basics brace is 1.18 kg and 73.6 to 114 cm, at about £19.94. AceMining singles are about 1 to 1.3 kg, and reviewers said that pole was too heavy to fly with. Pack the 210 g plate for a flight, and leave a bar near 1.2 kg at home. There is no UKAS comparison of force here. When the length hits a pin, the pole shortlist is on the best door security bar page.

Gap, swing and the seal

DoorJammer’s UK FAQ sets the plate at a minimum of 3 mm and a maximum of about 33 mm, on a flat floor. A weather seal or a draft strip can leave the flange without a solid hold. Most uPVC doors lack that gap, and an outward swing will not accept the flange. Reviews describe a hotel door that opens in, and also a gap too tight, a screw that would not turn, and an awkward pull from the floor. At home, measure for a pole in the door security bar buying guide. An outward door fails the plate and the usual pole together.

What neither one is

Both are extras beside the lock. Ask the Police question Q1098 names BS 3621 as the lock standard. Secured by Design lists the DoorJammer against relative clauses of PAS 24 and Winkhaus report TR2340-Doors. That entry names the plate, not the telescopic bars. Approved Document Q covers new doorsets. Lock first, and practise the release in daylight. Do not screw either device into a flat entrance fire door. For a hotel or an inward bedroom with a clear gap and no weather seal, take the DJ3. For a night brace on an inswing lever inside the measured range, take a pole. For an outward door, a sealed front door or a sliding patio, leave both.

Common questions

Is a DoorJammer a door security bar?
No. The DoorJammer DJ3 is an under-door plate, 108 × 40 × 70 mm and 210 g, that grips the bottom of an inward-opening door. A door security bar in this category is a telescopic pole from a lever to the floor. On 19 October 2026 the DJ3 was about £22.72 with 4.4 from 2,799 reviews.
When is the 210 g plate the right buy?
Choose the DJ3 when the door opens towards you, the gap is at least 3 mm and within about 33 mm, the floor is flat, and no weather seal blocks the flange. It needs no lever, which is why hotel and rented rooms come up in reviews. The listing showed 210 g at about £22.72. A tight gap is why some plates would not go under the door.
When do I want the pole instead?
Choose a pole when you brace your own inward door at night and the lever will take a yoke. The floor-to-handle length has to meet a pin, such as 73 to 113 cm on the Defender (590 g, about £21.95) or 73.6 to 114 cm on the Amazon Basics brace (1.18 kg, about £19.94). That weight is reasonable beside the bed and a poor one in hand luggage.
What gap, seal and swing stop the DoorJammer?
DoorJammer’s UK FAQ asks for at least 3 mm of clearance and puts the upper limit at about 33 mm. A weather seal in the gap can crush, so the flange loses a solid hold. The same FAQ says most uPVC doors do not have that gap. The door has to open inwards. An outward swing is listed as incompatible.
Does a PAS 24 line cover the pole as well?
No. The Secured by Design entry calls the DoorJammer a secondary device and points to relative clauses of PAS 24 and report TR2340-Doors. The entry stops at that plate. Approved Document Q and PAS 24 apply to new doorsets. A PAS 24 line on a telescopic pole is a separate seller claim.
Do I still lock the door, and can I get out?
Yes. Lock the door on its own lock. Ask the Police treats a security door bar as an extra beside that lock, and names BS 3621. The DoorJammer comes off with a pull upwards, which one reviewer found hard from the floor. A pole comes off by its yoke release. Practise once, and leave a flat entrance fire door free of screws.
