Adhesive gutter or uPVC gutter

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are choosing between a peel-and-stick J and a clipped mini gutter, and both are being sold under the same word. An adhesive gutter or uPVC gutter decision is really a decision about the surface: a van panel or a door head on one side, a shed roof on the other. A house eaves is neither. This page says when to stick and when to clip. Who ranks first inside our three listings is on [best gutter](/hub/diy-supplies/gutter/sub/gutter-best). The [gutter comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/gutter) is those three amazon.co.uk rows. Listings and UK notes were read on 21 October 2026. Same word, two objects

A clipped shed gutter in this capture is the FloPlast half-shed pack, B01M8J7QQS, titled 76 mm with 50 mm downpipes and 2 m, at £46.30. Funnytek's adhesive bullet, B0F59R9S28, prints a section of 14 × 26 mm on a 5 m TPE strip at £17.99. Bocguy, B0CWL8NZ99, is £24.98 for a title length of 5 m and does not print a millimetre section at all. Fourteen millimetres of channel against seventy-six is not a small-versus-large version of one product. One can take the side of a shed towards a butt. The other turns a drip.

When the adhesive strip is the one to buy

Buy the stick-on J when the surface is a van, a motorhome, a horsebox, or a door head, and the water is a drip off the panel above the opening. That is what the UK reviews describe. Bocguy's 268 reviews, at 4.2, are mostly that job, and many say the strip stayed up. The listing's own fit is: cut to length, clean a dry face with alcohol and water mixed 1:1, peel, and stick. Two UK reviews say Bocguy's strip fell off the first time it rained. Funnytek's sample is thinner: 3.1 from 26, and the UK notes are about tape that would not hold.

When you clip instead

Clip a mini gutter when the job is a shed roof into a water butt. FloPlast's MiniFlo line is up to 20 m² to an outlet in the middle, at a fall of 1:350, with a 76 mm channel and a 50 mm pipe. A 14 × 26 mm strip is not that system, and it has nowhere for a diverter to attach. Wickes' MiniFlo sheet puts fascia brackets at 500 mm, and the screws are a separate purchase. The shed guttering page stays on the one-side limit. A fascia has to carry a gutter when the gutter is full. That is a screwed bracket's job. Do not glue a J to a house fascia.

What neither strip will do

A stick-on drip rail does not keep an open van door dry in driving rain. Motorhome owners say that about drip strips in general: the rail turns roof run-off, and a serious downpour still wets the opening. That is forum experience, not a lab result on Bocguy or Funnytek. If you need the doorway dry in a storm, close the door or use an awning. Neither strip belongs on a house fascia. Tape will not clip to a half-round union, and it will not replace cast iron like for like.

Common questions

When is a stick-on J the right buy?
When the water is a drip off a van, motorhome, horsebox, or door head, and you can stick to a clean, sound panel. Bocguy at £24.98 has 4.2 from 268 reviews on that sort of job. Funnytek at £17.99 states a 14 × 26 mm section and has 3.1 from 26, with UK notes about the tape. Neither is a shed roof. Buy the strip for the opening, not for the eaves.
When do I need clips instead?
When the roof is a shed and you want a 76 mm channel into a water butt. The FloPlast pack in our table is that clipped kit, titled 2 m, at £46.30. Brackets on the MiniFlo sheet are 500 mm apart, and the screws are a separate purchase. An adhesive J has no downpipe and no diverter. Use clips for the roof and tape only for a door drip.
Will it stop rain through an open van door?
It can turn water that would otherwise run straight off the panel above the door. It will not keep the opening dry in driving rain. Motorhome owners say that about drip rails in general, including short shop-bought strips such as a 75 cm Fiamma. That is not a test of our two ASINs. If the doorway has to stay dry in a downpour, close the door or use an awning.
Why did some strips fall off?
Two UK reviews of the Bocguy strip say it fell off the first time it rained, and one says the plastic was too soft to stay straight. Funnytek's UK notes describe tape that was not sticky, a bent strip, exposed backing, and peel after a heat gun. The Bocguy listing asks for a dry face cleaned with alcohol and water at 1:1. That step is not a promise the glue will hold on a dirty or flaking panel.
Can I glue one to a house fascia?
No. A house eaves needs a clipped gutter in the profile already on the building, with brackets that can carry a full channel. A 14 × 26 mm tape J will not join a 112 mm half-round system, and it is not a repair for cast iron. Gluing it to the fascia marks the board and still leaves you without a downpipe. Match the existing gutter, or size a new one, before you buy a coil.
Is the £17.99 strip the same job as the £24.98 strip?
Both are 5 m self-adhesive J strips for a drip, not for a roof. Funnytek prints TPE and 14 × 26 mm, at 3.1 from 26 reviews. Bocguy prints PVC in the bullet, at 4.2 from 268, and its dimensions line conflicts with the 5 m title. The cheaper row is the smaller, rougher sample. It is the same kind of object, not the same evidence.
