Corrugated sheets for a shed roof

Updated: 23 October 2026

The felt has cracked, and a pack of short metal sheets looks like the tidy replacement. Corrugated sheets for a shed roof work only when the roof already has the pitch, the timber is sound, and you can reach the eaves without standing on the covering. The packs in this set are stated at 0.25 mm and about 110 cm long. The [corrugated sheets comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/corrugated-sheets) holds the steel listings. Peter F., editor for DIY supplies, used amazon.co.uk figures compiled on 20 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. Planning permission is not automatic. What the felt roof is asking for

Felt fails on a shallow boarded roof because it is a membrane, not a profile that sheds water down a trough. Cladco's shed-options table puts felt on a low slope, corrugated metal at about 10 degrees minimum, and Onduline-type bitumen at about 5 degrees on a deck or 10 degrees on purlins. If your shed is flatter than about 10 degrees, these steel packs are the wrong replacement. Forcing 0.25 mm galvanised onto a nearly flat deck gives you overlaps that hold water. Profiled steel wants battens the sheet can span. A longer 0.5 mm trade sheet is not a licence to copy a wide purlin gap onto these 110 cm panels. If the felt sits on a flat deck, this is a rebuild, not a sheet swap. Measure the slope before you order.

The packs in this set

Mondeer and Harbour are fourteen sheets at 110 x 46 cm, stated 0.25 mm. Mondeer is about £53.99 with 4.5 from 257 ratings. Reviewers call the metal thin, and a reviewer could not find a matching ridge. Harbour anthracite is about £57.99 with 4.6 from 51 ratings shared with the green listing. Ridge caps are sold separately. Warmfay is twenty-four black sheets at 115 x 45 cm, still 0.25 mm, about £73.99, and its two area figures already disagree. Gross square metres are not the cover after an end lap. Harbour anthracite is the top pick among these coloured 14-packs if you accept 0.25 mm and a separate ridge. Mondeer is the best value on price and the 257-rating sample. The conditions are on best corrugated sheets.

Timber, asbestos and height

Look under the felt before the new sheets arrive. Soft boards mean the screw bites nothing. If you find fibre cement on an older shed, treat it as possible asbestos cement. HSE names fibre cement and corroded metal as fragile surfaces. Do not break it up, do not walk it, and do not screw the new pack through it. Regulation 6 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 still applies in a garden. Work from a platform. If you cannot, hire someone. The lap, once the timber can take screws, is on how to fit corrugated roofing sheets.

England permission for a shed

Planning Portal's Class E limits for outbuildings in England are the figures to check. Eaves no higher than 2.5 m. Overall height no higher than 4 m on a dual-pitched roof, or 3 m otherwise. Within 2 m of a boundary, the limit is 2.5 m. A like-for-like repair of the covering often stays permitted development, unless the ridge rises or the building is listed. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland do not use these England numbers. Raising the ridge to create a 10 degree pitch can be the change that needs permission, even when the walls stay put. Measure before you add battens that lift the line. Planning permission and building regulations are separate. Clearing one does not clear the other.

Bitumen sheet as context

If the slope is under about 10 degrees, bitumen corrugated sheet is what UK shed articles usually mean, and it is not in this comparison. A Wickes Onduline Classic sheet at £28 is a merchant price, not a tested winner. Do not claim a 30-year life for these packs. If the old cement is unsafe, leave the pack unopened and call a professional.

Common questions

Can these packs replace shed felt?
They can on a small shed that already has a pitch near 10 degrees or steeper, sound timber, and a ridge you have bought. Mondeer and Harbour are fourteen short sheets stated at 0.25 mm, not a full-length 0.5 mm trade sheet. A shallow felt roof should keep a membrane or move to bitumen sheet, which is not an ASIN here.
What if the shed is flatter than the steel guides?
Cladco's table lists corrugated metal at about 10 degrees minimum for their products. If your shed is flatter, these packs are a poor swap, because the laps hold water. Measure before you order. Bitumen sheet in that table starts lower, about 5 degrees on a deck, and it has its own fixing guide.
Does the timber under the felt have to be sound?
Yes. The sheet is only as solid as the batten the screw bites. Soft boards need replacing before any pack goes up. Rotten timber is one of the points where this stops being DIY, however light the panels feel in the driveway.
Do you need planning permission in England to change the covering?
Often a like-for-like repair stays permitted development, and that is not a blanket rule. If the new ridge rises, or the shed is listed, check the England height limits before you order. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland use their own rules.
When does a shed repair need building regulations?
Schedule 2 exempts some small detached buildings with no sleeping accommodation, at 15 m², or 30 m² with extra conditions. A building people sleep in is outside that exemption, and so is a house roof. Replacing a covering can fall inside the exemption and still need planning if the height changes.
Is bitumen sheet in this comparison?
It is a real alternative for a low-pitch shed, and it is not one of the ASINs. The £28 Wickes example is context only. Bitumen face-up instructions do not transfer to galvanised packs. Use bitumen when the slope is too flat for these steel sheets.
When should you hire someone?
Stop if the old roof may be asbestos cement, if anyone sleeps in the building, if the timber is rotten, if the span is not a small shed, or if you cannot work from a proper platform. HSE treats corroded metal and fibre cement as fragile.
