Plasma cutter 13 amp: what a UK socket will feed

Updated: October 2026

You have a BS 1363 socket and a plasma cutter whose title says 50 A or 60 A. A plasma cutter 13 amp limit is the fuse in the plug, rated at 13 A. It is not the cutting current on the front panel. Several reviewers in this amazon.co.uk set outran the fuse. The [Stahlwerk plasma cutter comparison](/hub/cutting-tools/stahlwerk-plasma-cutter) is the model table. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The Products Compared editorial team read the listings and UK reviews on 16 October 2026. We did not measure input current, and this page does not tell you how to uprate a fuse.

What the plug is rated for

A BS 1363 plug on a normal socket circuit takes a 13 A fuse. UK mains are nominally 230 V. Listings print 220 V, 230 V or 240 V, sometimes both. The Haxiaoer title says 220 V and the technical details say 240 V. The PLASMARGON CUT55 and the PLC65 say 230 V in the title and 220 V in the specification. Keep both. A second voltage is not a fuse rating. The 50 A or 60 A on the cutter is output at the torch. Turning the dial up pulls more from the wall. A CE line on the CUT65 Pro is a label, not a measurement of that carton on your socket. If the plug is not BS 1363, sort that before the first cut.

What happened in this set

On the Reboot non-HF 40 A, at £199.00, a bullet says no blown fuses on a standard UK 13 A socket. A review says fuses blew above 22 A. The non-HF start does not cancel that review. Cuts described for that machine are 5 mm stainless and thin tinplate, not an afternoon at 40 A. On the Reboot CUT60, 4.6 from 28 reviews at £132.04, one verified review says a 13 A fuse blew, and another buyer moved to a 16 A supply for heavier metal. A 35% duty-cycle bullet on the 60 A description is not a statement that full output is fine on 13 A. On the SUSEMSE LT55, extension-lead fuses opened on a long cut around 10 mm. One buyer received a UK 3-pin plug on that delivery. One plug is one unit, not a promise for the brand. On all three, the fuse opened when the cut got ambitious.

What a 13 A machine looks like when the maker prints it

R-Tech's P32D is sold as a 240 V, 13 A machine. That page specifies about 15–30 A of output, 8 mm clean and 12 mm severance, at £690 and £575. The maker has stopped the output where a household fuse can live. It is not a test of these ASINs, and its duty cycle must not be copied onto one. Set that beside a 60 A title at £132.04. Short cuts in 1.2 mm or 2 mm sheet can stay inside a 13 A plug. A 12 mm or 16 mm line is not an all-afternoon cut from the same fuse. Choose a machine whose input you can feed, which is the order in the plasma cutter buying guide.

When you stop

Stop when the plug is hot, the fuse has opened, or the data plate shows a supply you do not have. A 16 A or 32 A outlet is an electrician's job. Do not fit a larger fuse or bridge one. A 400 V Stahlwerk CUT 60 does not belong on a domestic socket unless that supply exists. These inverters are not that Stahlwerk. An extension lead is the other place fuses die. The SUSEMSE reports are about the lead on a long cut. Use a short lead, unwound, and treat a blown fuse as the end of the try. Once the supply is honest, the first cut is the how to use a plasma cutter page.

Common questions

Can I run a plasma cutter from a normal plug?
You can run a short, light cut if the input stays inside 13 A. You cannot assume a 50 A or 60 A title is safe on that plug for the thickness in the headline. Reviews in this set describe blown 13 A fuses on the Reboot CUT60 and fuses above 22 A on the Reboot non-HF. We did not meter the input.
Why does the 13 A fuse blow?
Because the cutter is asking the socket for more than 13 A, often when the current dial is up or the cut is long and thick. A no-blown-fuses bullet on the Reboot non-HF is contradicted by a review of trips above 22 A. The fuse is doing the job printed on it.
Is 60 A of cutting current the same as 60 A from the wall?
No. The 60 A figure is output at the torch. The wall side is whatever input that output requires, and these listings do not print a measured input current we can quote. A reviewer estimate of a 32 A outlet for full output stays an estimate. Do not treat the two sixties as the same amp.
Can I fit a bigger fuse?
No. A BS 1363 plug on a household socket is a 13 A fuse. Fitting a larger fuse, or bridging one, is outside this guide. If the work needs more supply, ask an electrician about a proper 16 A or 32 A circuit.
What is a 32 A outlet for?
It is a higher-current circuit, installed for equipment a 13 A socket cannot feed. One reviewer moved a Reboot CUT60 onto a 16 A supply for heavier metal. Whether you need 16 A or 32 A is an electrician's measurement, not a number to invent from the cutting current on the title.
Will non-HF stop the trips?
No. The Reboot non-HF listing claims no blown fuses on a UK 13 A socket, and a review says fuses blew above 22 A. Blowback start is a claim about interference, not about the fuse. Stay at the low end of the dial or change the supply.
