Rubi HIT vs Speed

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing between a Rubi HIT and a Rubi Speed, and both pages can be read as if they cut porcelain. Rubi HIT vs Speed is a duty choice first and a length choice second. In the [Rubi tile cutter comparison](/hub/cutting-tools/rubi-tile-cutter) the Speed side is the Speed-62 N, reference 14975, at £240.79. The HIT side is the HIT-850 N at £284.94 and the HIT-1200 N at £521.99. The Products Compared editorial team read the amazon.co.uk listings and Rubi's own series pages on 19 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. There is no lab test, and there is no separation force on the Speed listing to invent one from.

What Rubi says each series is for

SPEED-N is the lighter double-guide cutter. Rubi describes it for frequent enamelled tile and stoneware, with porcelain only occasionally. On the kept amazon page that is frequent glazed tiles and stoneware, and occasional porcelain stoneware. The Speed-62 N shows 4.3 from two ratings. The only review text, from France, calls the cutter amateur. Two ratings cannot promote the Speed into a daily porcelain rail. HIT-N is the porcelain series in this set. Both kept HIT listings state porcelain of high thickness, 3–15 mm, and 800 kg of separation, with a one-handed break. The HIT-850 N shows 4.4 from 21 ratings. The HIT-1200 N shows 4.2 from 48, with the same 800 kg claim and with a review that mentions rail flex on 60 x 120 tiles. The 800 kg figure is the separator rating, not a weight you lift, and the Speed page does not state it. Some ceramics thicker than 15 mm, or tiles with internal stress, may not cut by hand. Tradetiler treats about 10 mm as the practical thickness on a HIT-1200 N, with 20 mm porcelain unsuitable. That is the shop's experience, not a deletion of Rubi's 3–15 mm line. The buying guide puts this check after you have measured the cut.

Beds, wheels and the bag

Rubi's table for Speed-62 N reference 14975 states 62 cm and a 44 x 44 cm diagonal, with no case. The amazon.co.uk listing weighs it at 6.8 kg and, in an attribute, says a maximum cutting length of 77 cm. State both figures. Do not let 77 cm win the conflict. The HIT-850 N lists 85 cm straight and 60 x 60 cm on the diagonal, at 11.2 kg. The HIT-1200 N lists 120 cm and 85 x 85 cm, at 15 kg. The Speed-62 N includes an 8 mm ring and names 6 mm and 10 mm. Rubi points 8 mm at porcelain and 22 mm at a rough or thick hard glaze. Both HIT listings include 22 mm and name 6, 8, 10, 18 and 22 mm. You cannot put that 22 mm range on the Speed, because the Speed page stops at 10 mm. Only the HIT-1200 N includes a carry bag, on part 26962. The HIT-850 N does not say a case is in the box. The Speed-62 N includes one cutter and one scoring wheel. buybrandtools listed a cased Speed-62 N as part 14985, at £237.59 including VAT on 19 October 2026. That is not ASIN B0718YRVHK. The long bed is the large format porcelain page.

When the Speed-62 N is the buy

Choose the Speed-62 N when glazed wall tile is what you cut most days, porcelain is rare, and 62 cm from Rubi's table covers the piece. At £240.79 and 6.8 kg it is the best value in this set for that narrower job. The double guide lets you see the score. It is a poor buy the week porcelain becomes the normal tile, because you have no stated breaker force and a wheel range that stops at 10 mm.

When a HIT is the buy

Choose a HIT when porcelain is the job and you want the 800 kg breaker. The HIT-850 N is the top pick for that duty when the straight cut fits in 85 cm and the diagonal fits in 60 x 60 cm. The gap to the Speed is about £44 on these amazon prices. Choose the HIT-1200 N when the bed must be 120 cm or the diagonal 85 x 85 cm, and accept 15 kg and £521.99. The separator rating does not go up. The length does. How you score and snap, once the rail is on the bench, is on how to use a Rubi tile cutter. If the HIT bed still will not take the diagonal you measured, leave both families in this set.

Common questions

Can the Speed-62 N cut porcelain at all?
Yes, occasionally, which is the word on the listing: frequent glazed tile and stoneware, occasional porcelain stoneware. It is not rated as a daily porcelain cutter, and the page does not state a separation force. The included wheel is 8 mm, which Rubi associates with porcelain, inside a set of 6, 8 and 10 mm. If most of your tiles are porcelain, that occasional line is the reason to buy a HIT instead.
What does 800 kg change?
On the HIT listings, 800 kg is the stated separation force of the breaker, not the weight of the tool. The HIT-850 N is 11.2 kg and the HIT-1200 N is 15 kg. The force figure is Rubi's claim for snapping high-thickness porcelain in the 3–15 mm band, still with a sample cut. The Speed-62 N listing has no equivalent number. Do not copy 800 kg across to the Speed because both are Rubi rails.
Is the HIT-850 N just a longer Speed?
No. It is a longer bed and a different series. The HIT-850 N adds a stated 800 kg breaker, a 22 mm wheel, a 3–15 mm porcelain range, and a 60 x 60 cm diagonal rating. The Speed-62 N is the lighter double-guide cutter for glazed tile, at 6.8 kg against 11.2 kg. Extra centimetres without that breaker would still be a Speed. Treat them as two tools that happen to share a brand.
Which one shows the score line more clearly?
The Speed-62 N listing makes a point of it: double 18 mm guides and a direct view of the scoring and cutting line. That is a real advantage when you are learning the pass on glazed tile. The HIT listings emphasise the one-handed breaker and the 800 kg separation more than a sightline. Visibility is not a substitute for a bed that is long enough.
Do they take the same scoring wheel?
No. The Speed-62 N takes 6, 8 and 10 mm, and it includes 8 mm. The HIT listings include 22 mm and also name 6, 8, 10 and 18 mm. Rubi points 22 mm at rough or thick hard glaze, and 18 mm at porcelain as well as 8 mm. A wheel from the HIT range above 10 mm is not a Speed accessory on these pages.
Which listing includes a bag?
Only the HIT-1200 N in this set. The title and the included-components line for part 26962 include a carry bag. The HIT-850 N does not state a bag. The Speed-62 N, reference 14975, includes a cutter and a scoring wheel, not a case. Part 14985 is a cased Speed-62 N at another UK shop and a different reference.
Is a Speed with a case the same product as this listing?
No. The kept amazon listing is reference 14975, ASIN B0718YRVHK, at £240.79, without a case in the included components. buybrandtools lists a Speed-62 N with a case as part 14985, at £237.59 including VAT on the day this was checked. Close prices do not make them the same box. A case you saw on 14985 will not be in the 14975 carton unless the live amazon page starts saying so.
