Rubi tile cutter buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are about to order a rail cutter, and the number on the box is easy to treat as every line you can score. This Rubi tile cutter buying guide puts the checks in order: the longest score, including the diagonal, then the body of the tile, then the wheel and the bag the listing really includes. The three amazon.co.uk listings in the [Rubi tile cutter comparison](/hub/cutting-tools/rubi-tile-cutter) are the HIT-1200 N at £521.99, the HIT-850 N at £284.94, and the Speed-62 N at £240.79. Those pages were read on 19 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the longest score

A straight cut and a diagonal are different lengths. A 600 mm square has a diagonal of about 850 mm. That figure is geometry, 600 times the square root of 2, not a bed length Rubi prints on a label. BuildWiz, a UK tool guide, makes the same point for a square turned corner to corner. The HIT-1200 N listing states a 120 cm straight cut and an 85 x 85 cm diagonal. The HIT-850 N states 85 cm straight and 60 x 60 cm on the diagonal, so a 600 mm square on the diagonal does not sit inside that rating. Rubi's table for the Speed-62 N, reference 14975, states 62 cm and a 44 x 44 cm diagonal. An amazon.co.uk attribute on the same listing also says 77 cm. Quote both, and do not treat 77 cm as the settled length. If the line is a 120 cm plank or an 85 cm diagonal, the large format porcelain page stays with those sizes. If every score fits in 85 cm straight and 60 cm on the diagonal, you do not need the long bed.

Then match the tile body

Length does not tell you whether the breaker is meant for that tile. The Speed-62 N is listed for frequent glazed tile and stoneware, with porcelain only occasionally, and it does not state a separation force. The HIT-850 N and HIT-1200 N state 3–15 mm and 800 kg, and both still ask for a sample cut above 15 mm or where the tile has internal stress or a difficult finish. Tradetiler, a UK seller, says 20 mm porcelain is unsuitable on the HIT-1200 N, with about 10 mm as the thickness they see in practice. That is one shop's view, not Rubi's printed range. A 20 mm outdoor slab is outside all three, even when the bed is long enough. Use SPEED when glazed wall tile is the daily cut and 62 cm from the catalogue covers the piece. Move to HIT when porcelain is the job and the bed fits. The HIT versus Speed page stays on that pair. The best Rubi tile cutter page names who should skip each listing.

Wheel, bag and weight are the third check

Rubi points 6 mm and 10 mm wheels at ceramic, 8 mm and 18 mm at porcelain, and 22 mm at a rough or thick hard glaze. The HIT listings include a 22 mm wheel and name 6, 8, 10, 18 and 22 mm. The Speed-62 N includes an 8 mm wheel and names 6 mm and 10 mm. An 8 mm wheel can score porcelain now and then. It is not the 22 mm kit. The HIT-1200 N title and included-components line (part 26962, C/BAG) include a carry bag. The HIT-850 N listing does not say a bag is in the box. The Speed-62 N includes one cutter and one scoring wheel. A cased Speed-62 N sold as part 14985 is a different reference from 14975. The listings state 15 kg, 11.2 kg and 6.8 kg for the HIT-1200 N, HIT-850 N and Speed-62 N. One HIT-1200 N review, not written in the UK, reported rails flexing on 60 x 120 tiles. A lighter rail is the wrong saving if the bed is already too short.

What to do if none of the three fits

A rail scores a straight line and snaps it. It does not cut notches, curves, or mitres. Two failed sample snaps from the same batch are a reason to stop. A wet saw is the other tool for those cuts and for a 20 mm slab. TX-MAX, on Rubi's page, is rated up to 1200 kg and 21 mm. TS-MAX, TX-MAX and TZ sit outside this amazon set. UK hire pages list a manual 1200 mm cutter and a wet cutter, with day rates that depend on the yard. Those pages are not the amazon HIT-1200 N, so do not copy their claims onto part 26962.

Common questions

What cutting length do I need for a 600 mm tile?
For a straight cut, a bed longer than 600 mm is the starting point, which the HIT-850 N covers at 85 cm and the HIT-1200 N covers at 120 cm. The Speed-62 N catalogue length is 62 cm, so a 600 mm tile is tight even before you allow for how the tile sits on the rail. A straight 600 mm cut and a diagonal cut are not the same order.
Is SPEED enough if the tile is porcelain?
Only as an occasional cut. The Speed-62 N listing says frequent glazed tile and stoneware, and porcelain stoneware now and then. It does not state a separation force. The HIT-850 N and HIT-1200 N are the listings that state 800 kg and 3–15 mm. Even those lines ask for a sample cut.
When is the HIT-850 N long enough, and when do I need the HIT-1200 N?
The HIT-850 N is long enough when the straight score fits in 85 cm and the diagonal fits in 60 x 60 cm. You need the HIT-1200 N when the straight score is up to 120 cm or the diagonal is up to 85 x 85 cm. Both state the same 800 kg breaker and the same 3–15 mm range. The extra money buys length and, on that listing, a bag.
What wheel comes with each kept model?
The HIT-850 N and the HIT-1200 N include a 22 mm wheel, and the bullets name 6, 8, 10, 18 and 22 mm as compatible. The Speed-62 N includes an 8 mm wheel, and the bullets name 6 mm and 10 mm as well. Check the included-components line on the live page before you assume a second wheel is in the box.
Why do two prices exist for a HIT-1200 N?
The kept amazon.co.uk listing shows £521.99. On 19 October 2026, Tradetiler listed a HIT-1200 N at £409.50 and buybrandtools listed part 26962 at £509.99 including VAT. Those are other UK shops, not a second Amazon price, and they can move. A lower shop price does not change the bed length or the 15 mm sample-cut caveat.
What cuts will none of these machines make?
None of them cuts a notch, a curve, or a mitre. A rail scores a straight line and snaps along it. A 20 mm porcelain slab is outside the honest use of these three, whatever the bed length. If two offcuts from the same batch will not snap on the line, stop and use a wet saw or a tiler.
