Place it before you switch it on

Put the fan fully on the surface before you look for a speed. Electrical Safety First says it should sit fully on the table or floor, not overhanging, with the cable where you will not trip. The MBSM is about 20.5 × 24 × 29.5 cm and 1.65 kg. The UK-plug Iris lists 2.8 kg and a size line in metres that you should ignore. The VEMONT is 272 g and folds. Keep a clip clear of curtains and of a trailing USB-C lead. Do not stand a corded fan on a pile of books.

Aim the jet, then let the remote run the speed

Motorised oscillation is what the remote can start. Manual tilt is what you set once, before you get into bed. On the MBSM the 70° sweep is automatic and the 90° tilt is manual. If the jet points at the ceiling, the remote only swings that aim from side to side. The Iris lists 75° vertical and 90° horizontal. The VEMONT, TRILINK and LETREEN do not sweep by themselves. The TRILINK remote is quoted at about 3 m and the LETREEN at about 4 m. Aiming does not turn an EU plug or a 110 V field into a UK socket.

Use the timer on the first night

Electrical Safety First advises against leaving a fan running overnight. Good Housekeeping UK says a timer helps because you may not want the same breeze at 3am. On the first night, set the shortest timer that still covers falling asleep. The Iris stops at 4 hours. The MBSM runs from 1 to 12. The DREO handset offers 8 hours, with 12 hours in the app. The bladeless Air Pro does not put a timer in the specification, so do not invent one from the word sleep.

If the remote is missing or dead

If the remote was never in the box, contact the retailer. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject goods that are not as described. TRILINK and LETREEN reviews include missing remotes. An MBSM remote failed after a couple of weeks, and a VEMONT buyer had a dead fob with no spare to buy. On the VEMONT the button on the fan still changes speed. Do not open the motor housing. If a child may have swallowed a CR2025, go to A&E. GOV.UK treats button cells as a swallowing hazard.

Clean the grille and unplug faults

Where the listing gives a detachable front grille, as the MBSM does, switch off and unplug, wipe or brush the dust, and keep water out of the motor. Common questions

Which settings need a hand, and which use the remote?
You set manual tilt by hand, once. The remote then changes speed and, on the models that have it, starts oscillation and the timer. The MBSM’s 90° tilt is manual and its 70° sweep is automatic. The VEMONT’s 180° tilt is manual. Voice and an app do not tilt a head that has no motor on that axis.
How do you use a timer on the first night?
Start with one or two hours, so the fan is off before the early morning. The Iris timer stops at 4 hours. The MBSM can be set up to 12. The DREO handset stops at 8, with 12 hours in the app. Raise the speed only if you are still too hot. A sleep mode does not override the advice against leaving a fan on all night.
What do you do if the remote was never in the box?
Contact the retailer and say the goods are not as described. You have 30 days to reject under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. TRILINK and LETREEN reviews include this fault, so check the carton before you throw the packaging away. Do not buy a random replacement fob and hope the codes match.
How do you clean a detachable grille?
Switch the fan off and unplug it, including a USB-C lead. Remove the grille only if the listing says it comes off, as with the MBSM. Wipe or dry-brush the dust, keep water away from the motor, and refit the grille before you switch on. If the blades will not turn freely, stop and speak to the seller. Opening the housing is not the job.
What is the rule for a CR2025 if children are in the house?
The UK-plug Iris remote uses a CR2025. Secure the compartment and keep spare cells where a child cannot reach them. GOV.UK guidance and the OPSS posters treat a swallowed cell as an emergency. If you think a child may have swallowed one, go to A&E. Do not wait, and do not try a home remedy. The DREO remote uses two AAA batteries instead.
