TFA Dostmann weather station for several rooms

Updated: 16 October 2026

You want a TFA Dostmann weather station for several rooms: the display, plus a bedroom, a cellar, a conservatory, or a greenhouse. Buy the View 35.1142.01 for up to three other places. Buy the Sky 35.1152.01 when one outdoor sensor is the whole job. On 15 October 2026 those prices were £48.48 and £36.61. The Products Compared editorial team compared the two amazon.co.uk listings with TFA’s pages. There was no laboratory test. If you buy through our Amazon links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Three transmitters, or one

The View’s box contains the base, three thermo-hygro transmitters, model 30.3215.02, and the manual. The bullet says four rooms or outdoor at the same time. That fourth place is the room the base is already measuring. You are not buying four loose sensors. The stated maximum is 60 m at 433 MHz, the same maximum the Sky prints. The larger review file belongs to the simpler listing. It is not evidence that the Sky covers more rooms. The Sky’s transmitter is 30.3195, one outdoor unit on a freestanding base. If the only extra place is the garden, the Sky matches the job at the lower price. Do not invent a per-sensor saving from £48.48 against £36.61. The stainless and copper dials have no radio, so they cannot do this job. They read the wall they hang on.

Rooms, a conservatory, or a greenhouse

TFA’s examples are a bedroom, a children’s room, a basement, a conservatory, or outdoors. A greenhouse is the same kind of place: one transmitter, in shade, not a controller that opens the vents. The outdoor catalogue range is about −40 °C to +60 °C, against about −20 °C to +50 °C on the Sky. Both ranges are catalogue text. Reviewers still report about 1 °C between sensors, so do not call the View more accurate because a ±0.5 °C line is printed. The Met Office screen is shaded, at about 1.25 m. Shade, and the clock that usually needs minus one hour, are on the setup page. A workable layout is a base in the kitchen, one transmitter in a damp-feeling basement, one in a child’s bedroom, and one in a shaded part of a lean-to greenhouse. A catalogue range is not a promise that the greenhouse sensor will reach the kitchen through brick.

Range, batteries, and what the number is not

Sixty metres is the manufacturer’s maximum. Manual wording for this family calls about 60 m an open-field figure. This page does not print a through-wall distance. Walls, foil-backed insulation, and other 433 MHz devices can cut the link. Each extra transmitter needs its own channel, and the button order stays in the manual. The View needs eight AAA cells and the Sky needs five. Neither box includes them. A hand-operated power line conflicts with those counts. TFA’s 18 to 22 °C and 40 to 60% relative humidity line is the maker’s comfort statement, not NHS advice. If you can see mould, that is a job for someone who treats the building. Normal home use under 10 mW at 433 MHz needs no separate licence. Sixty metres remains a maximum.

Stay with the Sky, or leave this set

Stay with the Sky when the only extra place is outdoors and the base can stand on a table. You do not need eight cells for a bedroom you will not measure. Move to the View when a cellar, a bedroom, or a shaded greenhouse has to appear on the same screen. Leave this set if you wanted wind, rain, a phone app, or more than three extra sensors. The View does not become an app, and the symbol is not a town forecast.

Common questions

Does the View’s box include three sensors or only the base?
The box includes the base, three thermo-hygro transmitters, and the manual. Batteries are not included. The bullet’s “four rooms or outdoor” counts the base’s own room as one of the four. A fourth loose probe is a different product.
Is the Sky enough if I only want the garden and the hall?
Yes. The Sky is the one-transmitter station, freestanding, at £36.61 on 15 October 2026 against £48.48 for the View. It does not cover a cellar and a bedroom as well. If those rooms are why you are shopping, the Sky is the station to skip.
Can I put one View transmitter in a greenhouse?
Yes, as one of the three places, in shade, not as a controller. A sensor in direct sun will not match a Met Office screen at 1.25 m. The link is still a 60 m open-field maximum, not a tested path through glass and brick.
Will 60 m work through the walls of a house?
The 60 m figure is a manufacturer maximum, described as about 60 m in the open. This comparison did not measure a UK terrace. A wall can cut the link much shorter. If a basement transmitter does not appear, that is a placement problem for the manual.
How many batteries do I need, and are they in the box?
The View needs eight AAA cells: two in the base and two in each transmitter. The Sky needs five. Neither box includes them. The attribute that says hand-operated conflicts with those lines.
Is 18 to 22 °C a health rule?
No. TFA states 18 to 22 °C and 40 to 60% relative humidity as a comfort range. It is not NHS guidance, and a hygrometer reading is not a diagnosis. If you can see mould, ask someone who deals with the building.
What if I wanted an app or more than three extra sensors?
That purchase is outside these two listings. The View stops at three transmitters plus the base. The Sky stops at one. An app is not a feature you unlock by adding channels on either of them.
