TFA Dostmann weather station buying guide

Updated: 16 October 2026

This TFA Dostmann weather station buying guide separates one outdoor sensor, three transmitters, and a wall dial. Those are not interchangeable versions of one product. The Products Compared editorial team used the four amazon.co.uk listings dated 15 October 2026, the manufacturer pages, and public UK sources. There was no laboratory test. If you buy through our Amazon links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Prices sit on the [TFA Dostmann weather station comparison](/hub/climate-measuring/tfa-dostmann-weather-station). The job comes before the price row.

One sensor, three transmitters, or a dial

The Sky 35.1152.01 is the one-sensor station. TFA names a single transmitter, 30.3195, at 433 MHz, with a stated maximum of 60 m, not a distance through two stone walls. The station is freestanding, so it belongs on a hall table. It needs five AAA cells, three in the base and two in the transmitter, and they are not in the box. The amazon.co.uk line that says hand-operated conflicts with that cell line. The View 35.1142.01 is the several-places station. The box holds the base and three transmitters, 30.3215.02, which TFA describes as up to four places. It can stand or hang. On 15 October 2026 it was £48.48 against £36.61 for the Sky. The gap is the extra transmitters, not a better symbol. If you only want the garden and the display’s room, leave the View, and finish that comparison on the several rooms page. The two dials have no radio. The stainless 20.2034.02 includes wall fixings. The copper 20.2027.51 is round metal and glass. Both show a barometer, a thermometer and a hygrometer, and neither covers a second room.

What you actually read

Both digital stations show humidity indoors and outdoors. The Sky’s forecast is symbols for the current situation and the next day, plus a frost symbol. It does not give you a pressure number to set. The View’s symbol comes from a change in air pressure, and the amazon.co.uk bullet says the forecast is taken from atmospheric pressure, without an icon list. Neither icon is a Met Office forecast for your town. The dials show pressure as a needle you set. TFA states the Domatic movement as +/− 3 hPa, which is catalogue text, not a bench test of these listings. Rising pressure, in the maker’s words, goes with improving weather, and falling pressure with worsening weather. Rain, Change and Fair are not a forecast. Listing lines such as ±1 °C are catalogue text too, and reviewers still report about 1 °C between sensors, with larger gaps in the sun. A damp spare room needs a transmitter. A dial on an outside wall will not tell you the bedroom humidity. That split is the digital or analogue page.

Clock, power, and where it sits

The Sky and the View follow DCF77, German legal time at 77.5 kHz from Mainflingen, as PTB describes it. They do not document MSF, the UK signal at 60 kHz from Anthorn. German civil time stays one hour ahead of the UK all year, so once the clock has locked you usually set the correction to minus one hour, in winter and in summer. TFA allows 12 hours either way. The offset, the shade, and the pressure screw are on the how to set up page. The dials have no clock. The Sky needs five AAA cells and the View needs eight. None are in the box. The analogue tables list no battery row, so Amazon’s “battery powered” line is not a reason to buy cells. The Sky is freestanding and should not be hung. The View can stand or hang. The stainless box includes fixings. The copper listing is the station and the manual, and the glass breaks if it is knocked. Sixty metres is still a maximum, not a range through a terrace.

What this set does not include

Wind, rain, and a phone app are a different purchase. A same-day rule of thumb from other TFA pages, not from these four rows, put plain wireless stations at about £35 to £49 and Wi-Fi stations at about £64 to £88. Those models were not compared here. Nothing here was lab-tested. The larger review file is not forecast skill. One outdoor reading points to the Sky, several places point to the View, and a needle with no radio points to the stainless station unless the copper finish is why you will pay £82.42.

Common questions

Do the analogue TFA stations need batteries?
The manufacturer tables for the stainless 20.2034.02 and the copper 20.2027 family do not list a battery. Treat the dials as mechanical. The Sky needs five AAA cells and the View needs eight, and those cells are not in the box.
Does the clock set itself to UK time?
No. The Sky and the View document DCF77, not the UK MSF signal from Anthorn. After the clock locks, you usually set the correction to minus one hour, in GMT and in British Summer Time. The stainless and copper stations have no clock.
Is a weather symbol the same as a Met Office forecast?
It is not. The Sky shows symbols for the current situation and the next day. The View’s symbol follows a change in atmospheric pressure. Neither station downloads a forecast for your town. Use a published forecast when the day itself matters.
Will any of these four give me wind, rain, or a phone app?
No. The Sky has one thermo-hygro transmitter and the View has three. The dials have a barometer, a thermometer and a hygrometer and no radio. Wind, rain, and an app appear on other TFA models, and those models are outside this set.
Which page has the four current prices?
The main comparison holds the rows from the 15 October 2026 dump: Sky £36.61, stainless £41.39, View £48.48, copper £82.42. A search snippet that showed the Sky at £41.10 is not the figure used here. Prices move, so use the listing figure rather than an average of two pages.
