Folding workbench or workbench with wheels

Updated: October 2026

The bench has to share a one-car garage with the car, or it has to vanish down a flat hallway by Sunday night. A folding workbench or workbench with wheels is that choice: carry it away, or park it built. Wheels do not make a folding bench, and a fold does not give you a socket. The [mobile workbench comparison](/hub/workshop/mobile-workbench) holds the prices. Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings on 19 October 2026, not a lab. When a folding bench is the one that fits

Fold it when the bench has to disappear. The WORX bullets give 79 × 63.5 × 13 cm at 13.9 kg and £131.99. The Bosch is 11.4 kg and folds flat, at £151.57. The Workmate is 6.6 kg at £34.00 and folds flat after you build it. Those three can live in a cupboard or a boot. The Metabo is the exception: 88.5 mm thick, about 1 m long, 22.1 kg, at £174.95. It will not slide into the same cupboard as the WORX. A fold recovers the floor only if the top is clear. A mitre saw left on the bench is a saw station. A WORX reviewer crushed a finger in the leaf. None of these folders includes wheels or a socket. Opening and latching is on how to set up a folding workbench.

When wheels are the point

Roll it when the bench must stay built. Both LARBANKE listings are 120 cm rubberwood benches at £139.99, with five heights from 85 cm to 105 cm and a stated load over 900 kg. That 900 kg line is a seller claim and was not measured here. Reviews of the TS-1251O describe legs that rack unless they are braced. The footprint is about 120 × 50 cm, plus a path to roll it. Locking the wheels stops a roll. It does not stop the frame racking. If the garage cannot spare that rectangle, a 13 cm fold is the one that fits. The Griplier cart at £279.00 states 150 kg, locks two of four castors, and has no review text. The Workmate listing does not include wheels.

The socket on the rolling bench

Only the LARBANKE listings include a strip, and the two ASINs are not one plug. A reviewer of the TS-1251O, B0CNGHX25M, describes UK sockets and USB-A. Reviews of the TS-1251O-1, B0CNGK5DRM, disagree: one says UK sockets, another says European sockets. Same £139.99. Read the unit you unpack. ETL is a mark the seller printed. UK plugs need approval under the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994. The Office for Product Safety and Standards reported Amazon strip PSD 2403-0065, which failed insulation and BS 1363 checks. If the pins are not BS 1363, stop. Do not use a travel adaptor. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers a UK socket in the pictures and a different plug in the box.

Lock the wheels, then decide if you needed a fixed bench

On a LARBANKE, lock the wheels or fit the feet before you lean on the top. The brake stops a roll and leaves a racking frame. On a folding bench the latch is the equivalent. A fixed bench is the honest answer for heavy hammering, or when a machine lives on the top all year. Garage Pride, a UK maker, treats a fixed bench as the safer default for heavy work. If employees use the bench, PUWER 1998 regulation 20 puts stability on the employer. Do not stand on the bench. Height and the load claim are in the buying guide.

Common questions

I have a one-car garage. Fold or roll?
Fold if the car has to come back in and the bench must vanish. The WORX at 13 cm thick, the Bosch at 11.4 kg and the Workmate at 6.6 kg are the sizes that make that realistic. Roll if you can permanently spare about 120 × 50 cm for a LARBANKE. A Metabo that folds to about 1 m long still needs a long slot.
Will wheels make the bench safer?
Locked wheels stop the bench rolling away. They do not stiffen a frame that racks, and a castor rating is not the load of the top. On the LARBANKE, owners still report flex unless the legs are braced. A folding bench has no wheels to lock. Its safety step is the latch.
Can I leave a project on a folding bench?
You can leave a project only if you no longer need the floor. The moment a saw or a half-built frame stays on the top, the bench cannot fold and it occupies the same space as a fixed one. Clear the top, then fold. A rolling bench is the one designed to keep the work on it and move aside.
What is the plug risk on the £139.99 benches?
The TS-1251O has a review that describes UK sockets and USB-A. The TS-1251O-1 has reviews that disagree, including European sockets that did not match the pictures. Check the pins against BS 1363. ETL on the bullet is not that check. If the plug is wrong, stop rather than add an adaptor.
Is the Griplier cart the rolling option?
It is a rolling cart with an expandable top, at £279.00, with two of four wheels locking and no review text. The LARBANKE benches are the wooden worktops with a stated height range and a disputed or described strip. Use the Griplier only if a cart is what you wanted, and accept that nobody in the raw file has reported on it.
