Dust extractor buying guide

Updated: 2026-10-21

You searched for a Holzmann dust extractor and the amazon.co.uk results in this set are other brands. That is the first fact this dust extractor buying guide has to put in front of the price. A home woodworker on a 13 A socket, a site carpenter on 110 V, and someone who only wants chips off a planer are not buying the same machine. The first question is dust class, then supply, then machine type. Prices are from amazon.co.uk on 19 October 2026. Products Compared did not lab-test these extractors. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The ranked shelf prices sit on the [Holzmann dust extractor comparison](/hub/workshop/holzmann-dust-extractor).

Three machines, one search term

The word extractor covers three jobs that do not share a winner. A chip collector moves shavings through a wide hose. A classed mobile extractor is what HSE points at for fine wood dust. A shop vacuum may say nothing about dust class. Holzmann’s ABS850 is listed at £239.99, with a stated 850 m³/h and a 40 litre bag on 230 V. The Saw Centre marks the dust class not rated. None of these five amazon.co.uk files is a Holzmann ASIN. Here the KATSU 550 W is the bag machine, the Trend T32 listings state M class, the Evolution R15VAC is the shop vac with no class, and the KATSU 55 litre is a HEPA drum with no class.

Class before litres

HSE’s construction guidance points on-tool wood cutting and sanding to an M or H class unit. Clean-up is an industrial vacuum that at least meets class M. Bosch Professional UK explains L, M and H under EN/IEC 60335-2-69, and a HEPA label on a filter is not the class of the machine. The Trend bullets are the only ones here that state M class, with 99.9% filtration, a filter-cleaning button and an extraction-velocity LED. That is a listing claim, not an air sample. The KATSU 55 litre says HEPA filtration up to 0.5 microns. A bigger bin does not tell you what leaves the exhaust. If you only want chips, the chip extractor or dust extractor page is next. Exposure limits are on the wood dust extraction page.

Voltage and hose

A normal UK socket is 230 V with a BS 1363 plug. The Trend page that says 240 V matches it. The T32L at £129 is 110 V and needs a site transformer. Evolution reviewers put the hose at about 32 mm outside, short of many 35 mm and 39 mm ports. The Trend hose is 3 m. The KATSU 55 litre lists 31, 35, 39, 63 and 85 mm adaptors. Ignore the Evolution 15 V cell. Who each pick is for is on the best dust extractor page.

What this Amazon set can and cannot answer

This set can tell you the shelf price, the stated class, the supply and the review base. It cannot tell you that a Holzmann cloth-bag collector is M class, because Holzmann UK and The Saw Centre do not say that. It cannot tell you that 4.6 from 759 reviews makes the Evolution safe as the only control for hardwood or MDF dust. Four perfect scores on the KATSU drum are not a test, and a missing review line on the 550 W collector is not a hidden five stars.

Common questions

What should I check before the brand name?
Check the dust class of the whole machine, then the supply, then whether you are moving chips or fine dust. Holzmann UK’s ABS850 is a chip collector at £239.99 with a stated 850 m³/h and no L, M or H class on the sources used here. The amazon.co.uk files in this comparison did not contain a Holzmann ASIN on 19 October 2026. A brand match that skips class and voltage will buy a 110 V machine for a house, or a shop vac for MDF.
Is M class the same as a HEPA filter?
No. Bosch Professional UK treats L, M and H as classes of the extractor under EN/IEC 60335-2-69, and treats HEPA as a filter description. The Trend listings state M class and 99.9% filtration. The KATSU 55 litre states HEPA filtration up to 0.5 microns and does not state a class. A bigger HEPA word on a drum does not outrank a stated M-class canister.
When is a Holzmann ABS the right type?
It is the right type when you want a high-volume collector for shavings, a wide hose and a large bag, and you are buying from a dealer rather than from these five ASINs. The ABS850 is 230 V and not rated for dust class on The Saw Centre’s page. It is the wrong type when the job is sanding dust or MDF and you need a listing that states M or H class.
Do I need 110 V or a 13 A plug?
Use 110 V only if the tools already run from a site transformer. The Trend T32L is that listing, at £129, with 34 reviews. A house, garage or shed on a BS 1363 socket takes the 240 V T32 at £114.95. The two machines share the M-class claim. They do not share a plug.
What hose size should I match?
Match the port on the tool, not the wattage on the box. Evolution reviewers describe about 32 mm outside and 25.5 mm inside, short of many 35 mm and 39 mm ports. The KATSU 55 litre includes 31, 35, 39, 63 and 85 mm adaptors. The Trend includes a dust spout adaptor and a 3 m hose. The KATSU 550 W collector does not state a diameter.
Is a 55 litre drum safer than a 20 litre M-class vac?
Capacity is how long you go before emptying. Class is what the listing claims about the dust that stays in the machine. The KATSU drum holds 55 litres, has four reviews, and does not state M class. The Trend holds 20 litres, states M class, and has 142 reviews on the 240 V listing. For fine wood dust, the class sentence comes first.
