Weed brush buying guide

Updated: October 2026

The joints in the block paving have gone green, and kneeling for an hour is the part you want to skip. This weed brush buying guide is the check before the price table: which head fits the crack, which handle stays tight, and which spare is only a wear part. The ten amazon.co.uk listings sit on the [weed brush comparison](/hub/weed-control/weed-brush), with shelf prices in GBP. The Products Compared editorial team updated this page on 16 October 2026 from those listings and Royal Horticultural Society notes. We did not run a lab test. Four brushes that are not the same tool

A converging head and a wide wire broom both get called a weed brush, and they do different work. A V-shaped wire or brass head is built to enter a crack. Newthinking's listing prints an 11.4 inch head for a face of paving or deck, and that width is clumsy in a narrow joint. Kosmoflux is a scraper-axe set with a wire brush, stated at 160 cm, at £13.99. Burgon & Ball's Miracle Block Paving Brush was £11.99 on the brand site on 16 October 2026, with three rows of converging steel wire. It is not one of the ten ASINs. In the amazon.co.uk set, Sbestily, LSC, Mitclear and Junchamp are V-shaped joint brushes. TDBS B0FJ8T92WV is an angled wire brush on wood with a scraper, at £9.99 and 4.5 from 289 reviews, and it states neither length nor spare heads.

Scraper, spare heads and the pole joint

The Royal Horticultural Society assigns roots to a knife and moss, seedlings and debris to an angled wire brush. A scraper or a separate knife meets a crowned weed, though it will not pull a taproot from a narrow joint. ORIENTOOLS, at £14.99, packs a stainless knife, two brass heads and a four-part 28 mm pole stated at 148 cm, plus a hex key, a spanner and a screwdriver. Spare heads replace bald bristles. They do not make the handle stronger, and they do not replace jointing sand. Sbestily's three-head listing states three spares and a triangular blade. The two-head listing puts the blade on the first head only. One buyer said the spare had no blade and the first scraper wore after about 20 metres. LSC, Mitclear and Junchamp also state three heads. Both TDBS listings, Newthinking and Kosmoflux leave the spare count blank. Both Sbestily listings state 136 cm and quick-release, yet a review says to tighten the joints hard. Newthinking and ORIENTOOLS draw the same loose-joint reviews. If stiffness comes first, look outside this table. Spear & Jackson 4864GB was £26.34 including VAT at PrimeTools on 16 October 2026: a wooden head, a built-in scraper and a stated 145 cm.

Length, weight and the surface

Printed length is the only reach you can compare. LSC states 120 cm, both Sbestily listings 136 cm, and ORIENTOOLS 148 cm. Mitclear states 53 inches, with an item height of 135 cm. Newthinking states 63 inches. Kosmoflux states 160 cm and also 63 inches. Both TDBS listings and Junchamp state no length. If you cannot bend, a shorter pole that stays put is more use than a longer one that folds, because you kneel again. Weights from 500 g to 1.16 kg are not a quality score. These titles name block paving, slabs, paths and drives. Steel wire can mark soft stone, so try a corner. Gravel is asked on the ORIENTOOLS listing and not answered. TDBS roof-tile bullets are not a method, so do not take a patio brush onto a roof. A July 2025 UK Mitclear review records a wire in a dog's paw and a shoe. The Health and Safety Executive lists projectiles as an eye hazard, so impact-rated eye protection is sensible. Regrowth in a sand joint is on the block paving weed brush page.

Questions before you buy

Buy the head for the joint, then a handle you trust, and treat spares as wear parts. A wide broom is the wrong shortlist when growth is only in the cracks. A V-shaped brush is the wrong shortlist for scrubbing a deck face. If you distrust the screw joint, Burgon & Ball and Spear & Jackson sit outside the ten ASINs, and the wooden TDBS brush is in the table with no stated length. Raw-file prices on 15 October 2026 run about £9.99 to £11.99, including the two Sbestily listings at £11.49 and £11.89, then about £12.57 to £14.99, and £19.99 for Junchamp. A higher price in this band is not a stiffer joint. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers satisfactory quality and 30 days to reject, depending on the purchase.

Common questions

Do you need a scraper as well as bristles?
Yes, once a weed has a crown. The Royal Horticultural Society points a knife at roots and an angled wire brush at moss, seedlings and debris. A blade meets the crown and will not lift a taproot left in the joint. One Sbestily buyer found the spare had no blade, and the scraper wore after about 20 metres.
Is a telescopic stainless pole stiffer than a wooden handle?
These listings are sectional poles, usually four parts with a screw or a claimed quick-release. Reviews say the joints unwind. A one-piece wooden handle has no joint to loosen. Burgon & Ball and Spear & Jackson sell that type outside the table. The wooden TDBS brush in the table states no length.
How many spare heads are worth paying for?
Two or three heads, as LSC, Mitclear, Junchamp and Sbestily state, replace bald bristles. They do not stiffen the pole or refill the joint. ORIENTOOLS states two brush heads plus a knife. TDBS, Newthinking and Kosmoflux leave the spare count blank. A spare without a blade does not replace a worn scraper.
Is brass kinder to paving than steel wire?
These sources do not show that. Mitclear and ORIENTOOLS state brass, and Sbestily states copper wire. Others state wire or metal. Steel can mark soft stone, so try a corner. Porcelain is not a stated result, and brass is not shown to be kinder.
Will a wide wire broom clean a narrow joint?
A wide head scrubs a face and sits badly in a crack. Newthinking prints an 11.4 inch head and a stated length of 63 inches. A converging head is meant to enter the gap. No listing reports a measured clean of a 5 mm joint.
What length do you need if you cannot bend?
Use the printed figure and treat a blank as unknown. LSC states 120 cm and Kosmoflux states 160 cm. Both TDBS listings and Junchamp state none. A pole that collapses puts you back on your knees. Burgon & Ball's page states 146 cm against a marketing line of 148 cm.
Is a £20 set stiffer than a £10 set?
Not on these listings. Junchamp is £19.99 with 4.4 from 39 reviews, and it states neither length nor handle material. Entry prices are about £9.99 to £11.99, including the wooden TDBS at £9.99. Paying more in this band is not a stiffer joint.
