Ryobi brushed or brushless angle grinder

Updated: 22 October 2026

The two UK listings share a brand and a star line, and the dearer one costs more than twice as much with the battery still missing. A Ryobi brushed or brushless angle grinder choice, here, is the R18AG-0 against the RAG18BL-0. You should leave knowing what each listing states, and when the extra money buys a larger disc and a stated jam shutdown. The [Ryobi angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/ryobi-angle-grinder) holds the third listing as well. This page keeps that US body to one mention. Captured amazon.co.uk prices are from 19 October 2026. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each listing states

Ryobi's R18AG page does not call the R18AG-0 brushless, and the amazon bullets do not either. On 19 October 2026, ASIN B00B8AFJYI was about £66.65. The highlight says a 115 mm disc and 7,500 rpm. The bullets name a tool-less wheel guard and a 3-position handle, and they do not name anti-kickback. Ryobi UK describes a two-stage switch that will not lock. Listed weight is 2.62 kg before a pack. The RAG18BL-0, ASIN B0DFHL5RK7, was about £149.95. The title says 125 mm and brushless, at 9,200 rpm and 2.1 kg. The bullets state electronic anti-kickback, a paddle, and a tool-less guard and nut. Both star lines are 4.7, from 4,468 reviews against 1,875. The 9,200 rpm line is no-load speed, not a cleaner cut, and a 125 mm disc does not belong on the 115 mm guard.

What the price does not buy

Both prices are bare. More than twice the money does not put a 5 Ah pack in the RAG18BL box. UK reviews say it stalls under 5 Ah, the forward battery adds bulk, and the supplied disc sparks until it is swapped. Brushless, on this evidence, does not end the battery complaints. R18AG reviews have the other limit. Stone and small packs run out, the switch will not lock, and the pack blocks some angles. Ignore the printed 4 horsepower beside 18.0 V, and the 50 W and 2.68 horsepower on the RAG18BL. Those are not a wattmeter result. Runtime is on the Ryobi angle grinder battery size page. Do not paste the R18AG cut table onto the RAG18BL.

Other brushless codes

The brushless row in this pair is only the RAG18BL-0. Ryobi UK lists the RAG18X125-0 at £154.99, with up to 90 cuts of 13 mm rebar on a 5.0 Ah pack and 9,000 rpm. A Danish page prints 9,200 rpm for that code. We do not average the two. If the title says RAG18X125, you are not looking at the about £149.95 row. The R18AG7 is another brushless body, with a lock-on switch the RAG18BL listing does not have. An R18AG7 kit claim of up to 80 cuts on 5.0 Ah is a different model. Ryobi's RAG18125 page says that tool is 20% more powerful than the R18AG-0, at £108.99. That is the manufacturer's sentence. Catalogue prices sit on the Ryobi angle grinder buying guide. PBLAG02B, at about £87.71, is a US code. It is neither side of this pair.

Which one to take

Take the R18AG-0 for occasional 115 mm cutting if you already own ONE+ packs and you can live with a switch that will not lock. It is the wrong step if you want 125 mm discs and a listing that names anti-kickback. Ryobi's own bare R18AG-0 was £107.99 the same week, so the amazon figure is a channel price. Take the RAG18BL-0 for the 125 mm class, the stated jam shutdown and the paddle, and fit a pack reviewers keep naming at 5 Ah. Budget to replace the supplied disc. You are not buying a 110 V site grinder. One ductworker says so plainly. If you own no packs, a kit comes first. For the guard and the nut, use the how to use a Ryobi angle grinder page, with the battery off before the nut turns.

Common questions

Is the R18AG-0 brushed?
Ryobi's page does not call it brushless, and the amazon bullets do not either. We do not print brushed as a stated feature. The listing does state 115 mm, 7,500 rpm, a tool-less guard, and no anti-kickback line. The RAG18BL title is the one that says brushless.
Is 9,200 rpm a harder cut than 7,500?
It is a higher no-load figure on the listing, not a measured cut. Use it as the minimum rating for the wheel. The larger diameter is what changes the disc you buy. UK reviews talk about stalls and the supplied disc more than they talk about the rpm number.
Will brushless stop the battery complaints?
Not on these reviews. RAG18BL comments still describe stalls under 5 Ah and a pack that sticks forward. R18AG comments describe stone and small packs. Brushless is not a pass to grind on a 2.0 Ah pack. Capacity is the other page.
Is RAG18X125 the same tool?
No. Ryobi prices the RAG18X125-0 at £154.99, with a 90-cut claim on 5.0 Ah and 9,000 rpm on that UK page. This pair's brushless row is the RAG18BL-0 at about £149.95 and 9,200 rpm. Read the model line before you compare the price.
Should the US PBLAG02B be in this pair?
No. It is a 4-1/2 in. title at about £87.71, with a speed line of 3.5 deg/sec and reviews from the United States and Canada. The pair here is the two UK-reviewed bodies. The US code stays on the main comparison.
