Makita GA038G or a corded 230 mm angle grinder

Updated: October 2026

You already have a stack of 40 V packs in the van, or you want a lead that does not die halfway through a slab. Makita GA038G or a corded 230 mm angle grinder is that choice, and in this set it is one body against five mains listings. The GA038GZ07 is £319.90 and the title says the batteries and the charger are not included. The GA9020/2 is £107.99 and it is a 240 V lead. Those two prices are not a like-for-like kit. The [Makita angle grinder 230 comparison](/hub/tools/makita-angle-grinder-230) shows all six. This page stays with what the XGT listing contains, which rows to ignore, and when the corded tool is the simpler buy.

What the £319.90 actually buys

The GA038GZ07, ASIN B08WBNBWNX, is a 40 V Max XGT brushless 230 mm body. Batteries and charger are not included, and the components line names no disc and no case. The star line is 4.3 from two ratings, with no written review, so runtime on paving is not described here. Makita UK lists it as tool only, at 230 mm, 6,600 rpm and a 6.5 mm maximum wheel. Do not move the corded GA9020 depth of 68 mm onto this body, and do not invent a runtime.

XGT, not LXT

The platform is 40 V Max XGT. An 18 V LXT pack will not run the GA038GZ07, and the listing does not say it will. If your chargers are 18 V, this body does not join them. The £319.90 price stops at the body. Amazon bullets name a paddle with lock-off, anti-restart, active feedback sensing and a current limiter. AWS chip 198900-7 is sold separately. Soft start is not in these bullets, even though Makita UK’s GA038G page names one. The comparison stays with the amazon bullets.

Weight and the rows to ignore

Amazon prints 1 kg and 10 × 10 × 10 mm. A 230 mm grinder is neither, so leave those cells on the card and do not plan around them. Makita UK’s with-battery range for the GA038G is 4.6–7.4 kg. A corded GA9020 is 5.8–7.9 kg without the cable. The GA9020/2 row says 6 kg. The 4 kg row on the GA9020RFK1 is not the weight to use. You still remove the pack before a wheel change, on the how to use page. Declared vibration is 7.0 m/s² on the GA038G and 5.5 m/s² on the GA9020. Neither figure is a daily dose.

When the lead is the simpler tool

Buy corded when the motor should keep turning and you do not already own XGT packs. The GA9020/2 at £107.99 is the 2,200 W, 240 V title, with 4.6 from 874 and UK reviews on paving. The GA9050/1 at £129.50 is the 110 V title, a supply question on the 110 V or 240 V page, not a cordless alternative. For a driveway and no XGT packs, the GA9020/2 is the simpler buy if you deal with the plug the UK reviews describe. For a van that already runs 40 V tools, the GA038GZ07 matches that platform if you price the packs and ignore the 1 kg row.

Common questions

Does the GA038GZ07 include a battery or a charger?
No. The title says batteries and charger are not included, and the components line is the body only. The £319.90 shelf price is that body. A disc and a case are not named either. Any shop listing that adds a wireless unit or a wrench is a different box, and it is not merged into this amazon line.
Will an 18 V LXT pack run it?
The listing is 40 V Max XGT. It does not say an 18 V LXT pack is compatible. If your existing Makita chargers are LXT, this grinder does not join that set. You would be starting an XGT kit, and the pack price is not in this file, so the body price understates what you still have to buy.
Why does amazon say it weighs 1 kg?
The amazon weight row prints 1 kg, and the dimensions row prints 10 × 10 × 10 mm. Both fight a 230 mm body. Makita UK’s with-battery range for the GA038G is 4.6–7.4 kg. Use that range, and leave the 1 kg cell on the card as a row that failed. A corded GA9020 is 5.8–7.9 kg without the cable on the same kind of Makita UK sheet.
What do you still have to buy after the £319.90?
At least one 40 V XGT battery and a charger, unless you already own them. The listing also leaves out a disc and a case. The AWS chip 198900-7 is sold separately if you want the wireless start. This file does not contain a pack price or a runtime, so those stay unknown rather than guessed.
How heavy is a corded GA9020 without the cable?
Makita UK prints 5.8–7.9 kg without the cable. The GA9020/2 amazon row says 6 kg. The GA9050 figure on Makita UK is about 4.7 kg without the cable, and the GA9050KX row matches that. The GA9020RFK1 row of 4 kg does not match the GA9020 range, so it is not the weight to plan a day’s carrying around.
