How to use an Einhell angle grinder

Updated: October 2026

You are fitting a cutting disc and the wheel is still on a live tool. How to use an Einhell angle grinder starts with isolation, not with the cut. Unplug a corded 230 V model, or take the pack off an 18 V Power X-Change body, before your hands go near the spindle. This page is the setup sequence for the eleven amazon.co.uk listings in our [Einhell angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/einhell-angle-grinder), checked on 22 October 2026 by Peter F., DIY & tools editor. We did not test these tools in a workshop. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Isolate the tool before you touch the wheel

Electrical Safety First says isolate the grinder before a wheel change, keep both hands on it, and clamp the work. On a mains Einhell the 230 V lead comes out of the socket. Releasing the paddle is not isolation. None of these files prints a BS 1363 plug, so check the plug on arrival. Take the pack off a cordless body. Only the TC-AG 18/115 kit (4431133) names a battery, at 4.0 Ah. Einhell UK recommends 2.5 Ah or higher on the bare 115 mm bodies. Lead versus pack is in our Einhell corded or cordless angle grinder guide.

Keep the guard on and leave toothed blades off

The guard stays on for a short cut and a long one. HSE’s HSG17 treats it as the part that contains pieces if a wheel bursts. Run a new disc for at least 30 seconds with nobody in line with the wheel. Match the stated speed: 12,000 rpm on the corded TC-AG 115, 11,000 rpm on the TC-AG 115/750, and 6,500 rpm on both 230 mm tools. Diameters are in our Einhell 115, 125 or 230 mm angle grinder guide. Einhell UK allows metal with a cutting disc, not a toothed blade. OPSS alert PSA5 (14 March 2023) warns that toothed blades raise kickback risk. No file prints a vacuum port.

How these listings say the disc comes off

A spindle lock is stated on the four corded tools: TC-AG 115, TC-AG 115/750, TE-AG 230/2000 and TE-AG 230. Press it only after the tool is isolated. A quick-fix nut is stated only on the TP-AG 18/125 CE Q. The AXXIO 18/115 names a clamping wrench. The method is blank on both bare 115 mm solos, the 4.0 Ah kit, B08WBLL9WT and the flat-head TP-AG 18/125 F, and a UK review of that flat head found no quick-release nut. The TE-AG 230 highlight says “with Disc”, but the components line lists a face spanner. Conflicting rows are in the Einhell angle grinder buying guide.

When to stop

On the 500 W TC-AG 115, reviewers describe a kick as it starts, and switch complaints show up on both corded 115 mm tools. Put the tool down and take the lead out or the pack off. On the TE-AG 230, a UK review records a spindle lock that failed. On the TE-AG 230/2000, buyer reports include a first-use stop. At work, PUWER 1998 expects a competent person for wheel mounting you are not trained to do.

Common questions

Do I unplug a corded Einhell before a disc change?
Yes. Electrical Safety First says you unplug an angle grinder before you change the wheel. On these corded Einhell tools the 230 V lead comes out of the wall. Releasing the paddle is only the first move. None of the files prints a BS 1363 plug, so you confirm a UK 3-pin plug and fuse when the tool arrives.
Do I take the battery off a cordless Einhell before a disc change?
Yes. Take the Power X-Change pack off before you touch the nut. Leaving the pack clicked on leaves the motor able to start. Solo listings, including both 115 mm Li Solo bodies, ship with no battery, so you remove the pack you fitted. The TC-AG 18/115 kit (4431133) is the only components line that names a pack, and that pack is 4.0 Ah.
Can I fit a toothed wood blade on an Einhell angle grinder?
No. OPSS alert PSA5, 14 March 2023, says toothed saw blades and chainsaw discs on angle grinders raise kickback risk. Einhell and Screwfix both reject wood. Einhell UK’s FAQ on the TC solo allows metal with an appropriate cutting disc, which means a bonded wheel. Use a disc rated for the tool’s rpm, with the guard fitted.
What if the tool kicks or the switch will not stay on?
Stop and isolate the tool first. UK reviews on the 500 W TC-AG 115 mention a kick on start and an awkward switch, and the TC-AG 115/750 draws switch complaints too. A UK review on the TE-AG 230 records a failed spindle lock. Reports on the TE-AG 230/2000 include a first-use stop. Those are buyer reports, not a fault rate. If the kick returns after cooling, use the return route.
When should I stop and get someone trained?
Stop when the wheel may be the wrong diameter or speed, when the flanges will not sit flat, or when the guard will not close. At work, mounting a wheel you are not trained to mount is for a competent person under PUWER 1998. HSG17 frames that duty. At home, the same pause covers a 230 mm slab you do not want to make, and stone dust with no water and no extraction.
