Cordless tool set buying guide: shape, packs, torque

Updated: 17 October 2026

A cordless tool set can mean one drill with accessories, one motor with interchangeable heads, or five separate power tools. That difference matters more than the number on the lid. This cordless tool set buying guide puts decisions in order: choose the jobs and kit shape, check the battery platform, then examine the charger, chuck and guard. Compare the six listings on the [main cordless tools set page](/hub/tools/cordless-tools-set), but begin here before treating price or stars as a verdict. Three kits that are not the same product

The first decision is whether you need one drill, several powered bodies or several heads driven by one body. A drill-plus-toolbox set is usually the sensible shape for assembling furniture, putting up shelves and keeping common hand tools together. In this comparison, the DEKO, TLGREEN and NAPASA listings each provide one cordless drill; their totals of 186, 138 and 118 pieces mostly count bits, sockets and hand tools. A multi-head kit sits in the middle. The TEENO uses one body with several heads, saving space but making every task depend on the same motor and connector. Reviews mention heads jamming and chuck failures. The combo kit or drill set comparison explores that trade-off. Separate-body kits are for people who expect to switch between jobs or need tools designed around their particular task. The JCB listing names a combi drill, impact driver, 185 mm circular saw, 115 mm grinder and jigsaw, while QQ CAT's bullets name four bodies including a 125 mm grinder and impact wrench. Paying for a saw and grinder that remain unused is poor value, however impressive the tool count appears.

Platform and how many packs are in the box

Once the shape is right, examine the battery system rather than choosing the largest voltage number. Packs from different brands generally do not cross platforms, and manufacturers do not normally approve third-party adapters. The six listings also use voltage labels inconsistently. JCB prints 18 V, DEKO prints 20 V, QQ CAT and NAPASA print 21 V, and the TEENO title says 20 V while its specification field says 18 V. Do not assume that the QQ CAT is stronger than the JCB simply because 21 is larger than 18. The 18V or 21V cordless tool set guide explains why the platform and pack details are more informative. Count the packs and identify their stated capacities. JCB names two 2 Ah and two 5 Ah packs with a dual charger, while DEKO mentions a 1.5 Ah battery and TEENO claims a 3.0 Ah pack. QQ CAT's bullets promise four batteries, yet its included-components field says only a case. NAPASA says two 2.0 Ah packs in a bullet, but its title and capacity field disagree. Amp-hours indicate stored charge within a comparable platform, not universal runtime.

Torque, chuck and a grinder disc

Printed torque is useful only when you compare similar tools and trust the listing. TLGREEN states 22 Nm for its 12 V drill, NAPASA prints 65 Nm, and JCB prints 160 Nm for its combi and 230 Nm for its impact. A lighter drill with a working clutch can be easier to control on flat-pack screws. NAPASA lists a roughly 10 mm chuck, but its review file is substantially mixed with another screwdriver. DEKO has the widest genuine review pool, yet owners report weak or incorrectly sized bits and insufficient torque for stubborn bolts. Cutting tools need a separate check. A 115 mm JCB grinder and a 125 mm QQ CAT grinder require the correct disc, speed rating, guard and handle for the exact tool. A box containing a blade may also trigger an age check, as TLGREEN's does. Stop if a guard, locking part or chuck is damaged.

What to tick off on the listing

Read the title, bullets and included-components field together. Confirm the powered bodies, batteries, charger, case, handles and guards. Check that an impact explicitly has reverse and that the drill's clutch and chuck suit your bits. Workplace equipment must also be suitable for its task under PUWER. Treat reviews last, and only when the text names this set. Write down the jobs you expect this year, count powered bodies rather than every bit, then verify packs and the chuck before you compare prices.

Common questions

What should I check before the star rating?
Check the kit shape, exact box contents and battery platform first. A five-star line from three reviews is a small sample, while a larger rating can still be attached to mixed product variants. Look for reviews that name the same drill, head or accessory shown in the current listing.
Does every cordless set include a battery and charger?
No. Some branded tools are sold bare, and marketplace fields can omit items that appear in the title or bullets. Confirm both a compatible battery and its specified charger in the current included-components list. If the fields disagree, ask the seller or choose a clearer listing.
Is a 186-piece set the same as five power tools?
No. DEKO's 186-piece set contains one drill plus bits and hand tools. A five-piece power-tool kit has five powered bodies, such as the JCB combi, impact, circular saw, grinder and jigsaw. Piece totals are useful only after you know what they count.
How many amp-hours do I need?
There is no single figure for every job. Higher amp-hours generally mean more stored charge within the same compatible platform, but tool load changes runtime. Two packs can reduce interruptions, while a lighter small pack may make a drill easier to handle overhead.
What marking should UK machinery show?
For machinery placed on the Great Britain market, check the product and paperwork for the applicable UKCA or accepted CE marking and supplier information. A mark is not a performance score. Northern Ireland arrangements can differ, so retain the instructions and purchase record supplied with the exact product.
