Cordless die grinder buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

Amazon.co.uk mixes straight die grinders, a right-angle kit and compact rotary tools in one list. A cordless die grinder buying guide starts with the head and the hole the shank must fit, then asks whether a battery is in the box. The ten listings in our [cordless die grinder comparison](/hub/tools/cordless-die-grinder) are shelf prices in pounds, not a lab test. Peter F. updated this page on 22 October 2026. Straight, right-angle, or rotary

Choose the shape that can see the metal. A straight body lines the burr up with your wrist, for a port or an edge you approach end-on. The third-party straight listings here sit around 1.5–1.7 kg before a pack. A right-angle head meets a face you cannot line up with. YEARTOP is the only right-angle kit, at about £59.99, with a stated 1/4 inch collet. Two UK reviews describe wheel-arch rust. A compact rotary tool is a third shape. The Dremel 8240, 8150 and Lite 7760, plus the Milwaukee C12RT-0, suit small accessories. Lite reviews that mention cut-out under pressure match the limit of a 3.6 V tool.

Collet before brand

In the UK, 6 mm is the carbide shank most fabricators own. 6.35 mm is 1/4 inch. 3 mm and 1/8 inch are rotary sizes. A 6 mm burr sits loose in a 1/4 inch collet and will not enter a 1/8 inch collet. Makita UK states 6 mm on the DGD800, which is not a row here. MIG Welding Forum users warn that some tools marked 6 mm are actually 1/4 inch. YEARTOP and ConBlom state 1/4 inch. The C12RT-0 states 1/8 inch. luolety says both a 6 mm shank and a 3 mm chuck. Kocusu, LengSuaa and the Dremel pages do not settle a bore. 6 mm is not 6.35 mm.

Battery in the box

A bare body is cheap only if you already own the pack. LengSuaa and ConBlom are about £39.99, JOJOCY about £42.99, luolety about £45.99, Kocusu about £50.34 and the C12RT-0 about £49.95, all without a battery. DeWalt 18 V and 20 V MAX share one slide class. Makita 18 V, Milwaukee 18 V and M12 do not. Colour is not a warranty. LengSuaa’s title says DeWalt and a bullet says Makita, so you cannot assign a shoe. The 8240 is about £94.94 with a 12 V pack. The 8150 is about £67.15 with an integrated cell. The Lite is about £53.60 with a USB lead. YEARTOP is the kit that states a UK 3-pin charger and two of its own packs.

Speed you can lower

JOJOCY states 24,000 rpm and no minimum, a weak match for plastic or a fine burr. luolety prints 17,240–24,000 rpm. ConBlom prints 15,000–25,000. YEARTOP’s four gears run from 11,800 to 19,700 rpm. The Dremel bands are 5,000–35,000 on the 8240, 5,000–30,000 on the 8150, and a Lite highlight of 8,000–25,000. A details line on that Lite page says 25 rpm. Do not treat that as the working speed. The C12RT-0 states 5,000–32,000 rpm. At work, noise action values are 80 dB(A) and 85 dB(A). That duty is not a rating on these pages. For a conditional pick, use the best cordless die grinder page.

Common questions

Should you buy a straight die grinder, a right-angle head, or a rotary tool?
Buy a straight body when you can approach the edge end-on and you already trust the battery platform. Buy the YEARTOP at about £59.99 when the face is square to you and you can use a 1/4 inch shank. Buy a Dremel-class rotary tool for light craft. A rotary tool is a weak only-tool for weld cleanup in steel, because the torque and the collet are in a different class.
Will a 6 mm burr fit a 1/4 inch or a 1/8 inch collet?
No. 6 mm is smaller than 6.35 mm, so it will not clamp in a 1/4 inch collet, and it will not enter a 1/8 inch collet. YEARTOP and ConBlom state 1/4 inch. The Milwaukee C12RT-0 states 1/8 inch. Several other listings mention 6 mm bits without naming the bore. Match the accessory to the sentence on the page you are buying.
Is a bare body cheaper once you already own the packs?
Often yes, and only then. A straight shell around £40 to £50 with no battery is cheaper than the Dremel kits if the shoe matches packs you already charge. If you own nothing, you still have to buy a pack and a charger. A third-party shell does not put the battery maker’s warranty on that body.
Do DeWalt 18 V and 20 V MAX packs share one shoe?
On DeWalt’s own system, 18 V and 20 V MAX are one slide class, which is why ConBlom and Kocusu name both. Those packs do not fit Makita 18 V, Milwaukee 18 V or M12. LengSuaa’s title says DeWalt and a bullet says Makita, so leave it until the live page names one platform in the title and in the bullets.
Why does a single 24,000 rpm claim struggle on plastic?
A fine burr or a plastic edge often needs a lower speed so the flutes do not melt the material. JOJOCY prints 24,000 rpm and no minimum, so you cannot drop it. The Dremel kits, the C12RT-0 and YEARTOP’s four gears give you a place to start below the top figure. The number on the accessory still wins if it is lower.
Which captured tools include a battery and a UK 3-pin charger?
The Dremel 8240 includes a 12 V pack and a charger. The 8150 and the Lite 7760 include an integrated cell and a USB lead, not a spare pack. YEARTOP states two 12 V packs and a UK 3-pin charger. The straight third-party bodies and the C12RT-0 are bare. A USB cable is not a BS 1363 charger.
