Pool filter pump size UK

Updated: October 2026

You have filled an above-ground pool for the season, the search said Wiltec, and the amazon.co.uk listings kept in this set are cartridge pumps plus two circulation pumps. Pool filter pump size UK is the check that stops a mismatch: the supply first, then litres per hour against your volume, then the hose. A horsepower title does not say whether 1,249 L/h can turn the water you have, and a 1.5 hp line can still be 115 V. The seven rows, with prices and the conflicts left visible, are on the [Wiltec pool pump](/hub/swimming-pools/wiltec-pool-pump) comparison. This page is the order of those checks. It does not tell you how to purge the housing, and it does not argue cartridge against sand. The figures are the stored listings, not a lab test. Start with the supply

UK mains are about 230 V at 50 Hz. A pump you plug in yourself needs a printed 220–240 V line before the flow is worth reading. In this set only the Bestway 58381 and the Bestway 58389GB state 220–240 V, at 16 W and 86 W. Vidapool and Aquastrong print 115 V, at about £263.01 and about £252.46. The Pavel at about £98.74 leaves voltage off the table, and four UK reviews say about 120 V and 60 Hz with a US plug. A pin adaptor changes the pins. It does not change the voltage. The GJXJY at about £61.99 and the generic set at about £73.99 also omit voltage. An empty cell is not 230 V. Plugs, the RCD, and why a fused conversion plug is not a transformer are on the 115 V pool pump and UK mains page.

Turn litres into a flow

Size from the printed litres per hour and your volume, not from horsepower. Pool Warehouse UK describes a domestic turnover of about six to eight hours. Bestway UK uses a six-hour circulation for above-ground sets and also says the water should pass through at least once every eight hours. Neither sentence is a lab test of these ASINs. The Bestway 58381 components line is the flow to use: 1,249 L/h, for a stated 1,100–8,300 litres, at about £37.49. A separate field says 330 gallons per minute. Those two figures do not match, so do not buy the pump as if it moved 330 gallons every minute. The Bestway 58389GB states 5,678 L/h for 1,100–31,700 litres, at 86 W and about £133.92. The review texts filed with it copy the 330 gal listing, so that figure is not a UK test of the 86 W model. The Pavel, GJXJY, and generic listings state gallons per hour and do not state litres per hour. Do not convert those lines into a litre claim the page never made. Both 300 gal/h sets also say not more than eight hours a day. An 8,000 litre pool sits outside their stated 378–1,324 litres.

Match the hose and the cartridge

A pump with the right voltage and the right litres still fails if the hose will not fit. The Bestway 58381 says no adaptor is included and it cannot connect to a 38 mm hose. If the pool already has 38 mm threaded valves, that pump is the wrong port. The Bestway 58389GB says adaptors are included for 32 mm valves and that it works only with 38 mm threaded valves. The 58381 names Type I cartridge 58093. The 58389GB names Type III cartridge 58012. Neither listing says the cartridge is in the box. The GJXJY and generic sets include one cartridge and give no code, so you cannot reorder from a blank number when it clogs. A sand set is a different machine: a media tank and a multi-port, not a paper cartridge you rinse.

What a missing figure means

Read an empty cell as a gap, not as an average of the other pumps. Missing voltage on the GJXJY, the generic set, and the Pavel table means those three do not join the 220–240 V pair. Missing litres per hour on a gallon-only listing means you do not invent a conversion. The 58389GB shows 3.8 from 421, the same count as the 58381, and the 50 review bodies in the file are the same texts. That is not a second sample of the 86 W pump. Vidapool is 5.0 from one US review. Aquastrong is 4.2 from 302, and none of the first 50 saved reviews is marked United Kingdom. A high star line on the wrong supply is still a skip. No Wiltec ASIN is in this set.

Common questions

Do I size by horsepower or by litres per hour?
Use litres per hour against your pool volume, after you have confirmed 220–240 V. Horsepower on the Vidapool and Aquastrong titles sits next to 115 V, so that horsepower never becomes a UK size. The Bestway pair prints 16 W and 86 W, and the flows 1,249 L/h and 5,678 L/h. Those flows are the sizing lines. A 1.5 hp headline does not replace them, and it does not tell you the hose diameter.
What flow turns about 8,000 litres in six hours?
Eight thousand divided by six is about 1,333 litres per hour. A rough figure for this kind of pool is about 1,300 L/h for a six-hour pass. Bestway UK also says the water should circulate at least once every eight hours, which is a lower flow for the same volume. Neither number is a test of a particular ASIN. The 58381 components line is 1,249 L/h, close to that six-hour reading for 8,000 litres, and its stated ceiling is 8,300 litres.
Why does one Bestway field say 330 gallons per minute?
On the 58381, the included-components line says 1,249 L/h, which that same line also calls 330 gal/h. A separate field says 330 gallons per minute. Per minute and per hour are not the same claim. Use the components line when you size the pool, and do not treat 330 gallons per minute as the flow you calculated.
Will a 38 mm hose fit the 330 gal pump?
The 58381 says it cannot connect to a 38 mm hose and that no adaptor is included. A 38 mm pool needs the 58389GB wording instead: 38 mm threaded valves, with adaptors included for 32 mm. Look at the valves on the pool wall before you choose the cheaper pump, because the litre ranges overlap at the small end.
What if the listing has no voltage?
Leave it off the shortlist until you can read 220–240 V on the product itself. The GJXJY and generic 300 gal/h sets, and the Pavel specification table, do not state a voltage. UK reviews of the Pavel say about 120 V and a US plug. A missing line is not 230 V by default, and a travel adaptor does not fill that gap.
