Paddling pool buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

A hot Saturday, a small UK garden, and a listing that quotes gallons, litres and a parcel in centimetres: that is the usual start of a first paddling pool. This paddling pool buying guide sorts the shell by who gets in, then by the water you can empty the same day. The [paddling pool comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/paddling-pool) holds the ASIN rows from an amazon.co.uk capture on 19 October 2026. Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, read those listings and public UK safety pages. We did not fill the pools in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three builds, not one pool

In this set the shelf is three builds. A three-ring has a wall about 25 cm high. The Intex Sunset Glow is 86 cm by 25 cm, ages 2 to 7, 22 gallons, at £10, and you tip it out. An Easy Set is different. Intex 28101NP is 183 cm across and 51 cm high, one top ring, at £31.84, age 6+, with about 880 litres at 80% in the bullets and 890 litres in the spec. A family rectangle is the third. Bestway 12819 is 211 x 132 x 46 cm and 400 litres, at £34.99. Bestway deluxe 54006 is 2.62 x 1.75 x 0.51 m and 778 litres, at £40. A baby ring against a family shell is on toddler paddling pool or family pool. A 50 cm wall is the wrong water for a two-year-old. An 86 cm ring is the wrong water for three siblings.

Read litres before gallons

Use a figure that can sit inside the printed size. The Sunset Glow's 22 gallons can fit an 86 cm ring. Crystal Blue prints 154 gallons for a pool about 114 cm across and 25 cm high, and the page does not say US or imperial gallon. Either reading is too large, so keep 154 gallons out of the fill plan. The Easy Set is clearer. About 880 litres at 80% and 890 litres in the spec both belong to the 183 cm pool. One household on pyracantha.co.uk metered about 800 litres into a 6 ft Easy Set and kept it about four years. That is one garden, not a ranking. Bestway deluxe states 778 litres. Bestway 12819 states 400 litres. Those are the volumes you empty the same day. RoSPA's garden advice is to empty straight after use, because rain can refill a shell.

Pump, drain and patch

None of these included lines lists an electric pump. The Easy Set included line says a manual. One review mentions an air pump, and another inflated the ring by mouth. An added pump needs 230 V and a BS 1363 plug. A compressor is the wrong tool. The Easy Set manual bars a high-pressure pump. A drain separates a tip from a long empty. Sunset Glow does not state a drain. Easy Set includes a drain plug. Both Bestway listings mention a drain valve, and the deluxe includes a repair patch. Bestway treats punctures as outside warranty. Olutula, Trongle, Victoper and Maraiss have one to three reviews here. Bestway 54006 and 12819 both show 4.3 from 44,525 with the same text. That is one shared block.

What to skip

Skip a framed pool if you wanted an afternoon inflatable. Mumsnet states a Steel Pro at £287, and MadeForMums shows a framed pool around £150, plus a filtered 10 ft Bestway around £73–£74. A pet pool is a dog product. Slide centres are a different purchase. Also skip a centimetre line that is the parcel. Olutula's item field says 35 x 27.5 x 10 cm beside a bullet of 200 x 150 x 50 cm. Victoper's item field is 39 x 13 x 30 cm beside a 2 m title. Those small numbers are the packed box. Prices in this capture run from £10 for the Sunset Glow to £55.75 for the Intex Swim Center.

Common questions

How big a paddling pool do I need?
Match the wall to the person who has to climb out, then match the litres to the empty you will do that afternoon. A toddler ring in this set is about 86–114 cm across and about 25 cm high, with the Sunset Glow's 22 gallons as the small figure that can fit. A family shell here is about 46–66 cm high and from 400 litres to about 890 litres.
Are gallons on an Intex listing US gallons?
The Crystal Blue page prints 154 gallons and does not say whether that is a US gallon or an imperial gallon. Either reading is too large for a pool listed at about 114 cm across and 25 cm high. The Sunset Glow's 22 gallons sits in a plausible range for an 86 cm ring that is not filled to the brim. When the gallon line cannot fit the diameter, use the centimetre line and ignore the gallon for planning.
What does age 6+ mean on an Easy Set?
The Easy Set age field says 6+. That is the listing's age line, not a measurement of your child and not a certificate. The wall is 51 cm, which is also past the 400 mm water depth that sits outside the toy-pool scope of BS EN 71-8:2026. This listing does not show that mark. A printed age tells you the seller's intended user. It does not replace supervision.
Why is the centimetre line tiny on a 2 m pool?
On the Olutula page the bullet says 200 x 150 x 50 cm and the item-dimensions field says 35 x 27.5 x 10 cm. The Victoper title says 2 m and the item field says 39 x 13 x 30 cm. Those small lines are the parcel. Read the bullet or the title for the water size, then check a review that measured the shell.
Should I trust a listing with two reviews?
Two reviews can tell you one household's first weekend. They cannot tell you how often a seam fails. Olutula, Trongle, Victoper and Maraiss sit at one to three reviews here, including a 5.0 from two and a 3.5 from three. The Sunset Glow is 4.4 from 36,273 and the Easy Set is 4.2 from 39,036. Prefer the large file when the size you need exists in both.
