Garden pool buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a lawn or a patio, a hot week on the calendar, and a photograph of a blue pool that may not include the pump. A garden pool buying guide for this set starts with how many days the water will stay in, then with the wall height, then with what the amazon.co.uk box actually lists. The nine listings on the [garden pool comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/garden-pool) ran from £35.99 to £299.00 on 19 October 2026. This page is the order of those decisions. Nothing here was lab-tested. A qualifying purchase through our amazon.co.uk links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

How many days will the water stay in

An afternoon you empty is a different product from a pool left full through a school holiday. If you will tip the water out before tea, a filter is the wrong problem. The lounge, the three-ring inflatables and the BOODPET fold-flat are that same-day group. If the water stays up for a week, you need a wall that does not depend on one air ring, a plan for a pump, and a base that will not sink. The BOODPET is the third path: no air pump, 18 kg, and no stated capacity. How that wall stands up is on the frame pool vs inflatable pool page. The Victoper title says 2 m while the dimension line says 39 × 13 × 30 cm.

Depth, footprint, and who climbs in

Walls in this set run from about 45 cm to 100 cm. A low wall is easier for a small child to step into, and easier for that child to reach when you have gone inside. The GALAXYER title is 45 cm. The Intex 8 ft frame is 2.44 m across and 51 cm high, listed at 1,828 litres. UK reviews like it for young children. Treat 51 cm as a paddling depth you still empty, not as a swimming length. The mid band is the 75–76 cm frames: a sit for many adults, not a length you swim. The only 1 m wall is the Bestway 56418. Outdoor Toys, as a retailer rather than a test of these ASINs, talks about leaving roughly 2–3 ft clear. Mark the diameter with a hose before you order.

Pump, plug, and ground

The pump, if you run one, wants a socket protected by an RCD, not an extension lead trailed across wet grass. Bestway's UK ground page says a lawn will mark and that the legs can sink. Flat, firm ground with the stones picked off is the base. A slope that you shim will show up in the first centimetres of water, and a full frame is then too heavy to nudge. Pool water is fluid category 5, so the hose does not sit in the pool while you fill. None of these listings is recorded here as certified to BS EN 16582-3:2015. That British Standard covers domestic above-ground pools deeper than 400 mm and excludes paddling pools under EN 71-8. A missing certificate on the amazon.co.uk page is not a failed test, and a high star count is not a certificate either.

What the shelf price leaves out

On 19 October 2026 the three inflatables sat under £60: Victoper at £35.99, GALAXYER at £39.99, and the Intex lounge at £55.75. About £80 to £150 held the Intex 8 ft at £81.38, the BOODPET at £109.99, the Intex rectangle at £110.00, the Bestway 10 ft at £119.99, and the Intex 10 ft at £146.66. The Bestway 56418 was £299.00. Those are shelf prices, not a survey of every garden pool in the UK. The listing price leaves out a ground cloth, a cover, a sanitiser, and any pump the title already says is missing. The Intex lounge prints both 262 gallons and about 990 litres. Both figures are on the page.

Common questions

What size fits a small UK lawn?
A 2.44 m Intex frame, 51 cm high, is the smallest steel footprint in this set, listed at 1,828 litres. The GALAXYER is smaller on paper, at 205 × 125 cm, though UK reviews often say it is tighter than the photo. A 3 m round pool plus walking space is already a large share of a typical terrace lawn. Mark the circle with a hose before you order.
Does the pool include a filter pump?
Only two listings in this set clearly include one. The Bestway 10 ft includes a pump and does not state the flow rate. UK reviews often call that filter weak or failed within about a month. The Bestway 56418 includes a pump stated at 2,006 litres per hour. The Intex rectangle, the Intex 8 ft and the Intex 10 ft do not. A photograph of a pump is not a line in the box list.
What else do I need to budget for?
Beyond the shelf price, budget a ground cloth, a cover if the water stays up, and a sanitiser. Add a pump if the listing says it is not included, and a replacement cartridge if you buy the Bestway 10 ft, because UK reviews often call the first filter weak. An air pump is extra on the inflatables. A £36 title is not the full cost of a week of water.
Do I need planning permission for a temporary pool?
In England, Class E of the GPDO 2015 can cover a pool incidental to the house. It does not cover a listed curtilage, a site in front of the principal elevation, or a garden where outbuildings already cover more than half the curtilage. A pop-up you empty is not the same case as a dug pool. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not that English class.
Which listing has a ladder in the box?
The Bestway 56418, the 366 × 100 cm set at £299.00, lists a 107 cm ladder with the pump and a repair patch. No other pool in this comparison has a ladder confirmed in the components line. UK reviews of the Intex 8 ft say a ladder was pictured and was not in the carton. If climbing out matters, buy the listing that names the ladder, and still check the plug.
