Parasol cover buying guide

Updated: 22.10.2026

You are in the garden with a tape, and the amazon.co.uk title is talking about a 3 m or a 4 m parasol. That figure is the open canopy. A parasol cover is the sleeve for the closed cloth, with its own height and widths. This parasol cover buying guide is the order for the twelve listings saved on 19 October 2026: closed centimetres, then shape, then zip or drawstring, then cloth and price. The rows sit on the [parasol cover comparison](/hub/sun-shades/parasol-cover). Products Compared read those pages and did not soak a cover. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure the closed parasol, not the open span

Close the canopy before you trust a diameter. Measure from the finial to the hem, then the gathered width at the top, the middle and the bottom. A centre-pole that opens to about 3 m often closes near 190 cm, about 30 cm at the top and 50 cm at the bottom. OKPOW B07PHFSCFM is 190 × 30/50 cm. Wanocean is 190 × 30/55 cm. RICHIE prints 190 × 25/50 cm while the title still says 2.5 m to 4 m. The bullet cuts that to a round parasol up to 3 m and a square up to 280 cm. Follow the bullet. A banana arm changes the middle. BEEWAY prints 205 cm long, with 75 cm in the middle, at about £8.54. A 30 cm centre-pole sock will not swallow that arm. The OKPOW cantilever page prints no centimetres, so you cannot check it before the parcel arrives. Shape is the next cut, on the cantilever or centre-pole parasol cover page.

Shape before denier

Denier does not tell you whether the arm fits. Four pages say they are not for cantilever umbrellas: OKPOW B07PHFSCFM, the khaki OKPOW, RICHIE and Wanocean. Offset on B07PHFSCFM is the trap. The next clause says it is not suitable for cantilevered umbrellas of any size. The short socks are the two PATIO PLUS rows, 160 × 24 × 24 cm and 153 × 30 × 30 cm, plus the khaki OKPOW at 153 × 30/30 cm. Teynewer mixes the jobs: cantilever in the title, a 1.8 m to 2.7 m banana at 170 × 25/35 cm, and straight-pole umbrellas in the same bullet. That is shorter and narrower than BEEWAY’s 75 cm middle. AWNIC does not say cantilever either way. One UK review said it fitted one. That is one review, not a size line.

Zip, hem, rod and bag

A zip helps when the parasol stays in its base. Czyan’s reviews say the zip stops short of the top. Both PATIO PLUS rows print no zipper and use a drawstring. They share 4.6 from 4,413 and the same opening reviews, including zip praise. Do not give either sock a zip the bullet has ruled out. RICHIE promises a heavy-duty zip, and more than one reviewer in the first 50 found none. A hem cord is the second fastening. On OKPOW B07PHFSCFM, one review said wind filled the cover and knocked the parasol over. Windproof here is seller wording, not a gale test. A rod counts only when the listing names it. BEEWAY, Teynewer and OKPOW B089T6GGY6 name one. Reviews on those three say the stick is often too short for the finial.

Cloth, grams and the price bands

Read denier beside the grams. RICHIE is 600D with a PVC lining and weighs 500 g, the heaviest here. The khaki OKPOW’s bullet says 600D, the table says polyurethane, and the cover weighs 123 g. AWNIC, Wanocean and Czyan print 420D. BEEWAY and Teynewer print 210D. The green PATIO PLUS is polyethylene at 100 g. None of that is a lifespan. AWNIC prints up to 5,000 mm H2O. Czyan prints 10,000 Pa and an ultraviolet claim up to 50+. Both are seller text. No British Standard is cited. Prices saved on 19 October 2026 run from Czyan at about £4.25 to RICHIE and the OKPOW with a rod at about £14.99. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, sections 9 and 10, a 4 m title that the bullet cuts to 3 m is a description you can hold the seller to.

Common questions

Do I measure the open parasol or the closed one?
Measure the closed parasol. The 2 m, 3 m and 4 m figures in these titles are open diameters, not the sleeve. Close the canopy, then measure finial to hem and the gathered width at the top, middle and bottom. RICHIE’s title says 2.5 m to 4 m while the bullet says a round parasol up to 3 m.
What does 190 x 30/50 cm mean?
It is the sleeve. On OKPOW B07PHFSCFM it means about 190 cm high, 30 cm at the top and 50 cm at the bottom. Wanocean is 190 × 30/55 cm. BEEWAY writes three widths because the middle is wider: 205 × 45/75/32 cm. A shop asking for circumference is using a different unit.
Is offset the same as cantilever?
Not on the centre-pole OKPOW pages here. B07PHFSCFM says 2 m to 3 m offset market umbrellas and then says it is not suitable for cantilevered umbrellas of any size. A banana arm needs a sleeve sold as cantilever, such as BEEWAY’s 75 cm middle, and you still measure.
Does 600D last longer than 210D?
It means a heavier yarn class is printed. It is not a test that 600D outlasts 210D through a British winter. RICHIE’s 600D cover weighs 500 g. The khaki OKPOW bullet says 600D and the cover weighs 123 g. BEEWAY’s 210D cover weighs 380 g.
Do I need a zip if the parasol stays in the table?
A zip is what reviewers use when the parasol stays standing. Both PATIO PLUS covers say there is no zipper, only a drawstring. Czyan’s zip, in the reviews, does not reach the top. If you take the parasol down for a shed, a drawstring sock can be enough.
Are waterproof and 5,000 mm a lab result?
Not in this comparison. AWNIC’s bullet says up to 5,000 mm H2O. Czyan’s bullet says 10,000 Pa. Both are seller text. No British Standard is cited on these twelve pages. Dry the canopy before you cover it. A waterproof sleeve does not dry wet cloth trapped inside.
