How to fill a parasol base with wheels

Updated: 22.10.2026

The shell is on the patio, the parasol is still in the bag, and the base is light enough to lift only because it is empty. How to fill a parasol base with wheels is the order after that: put in only what that listing prints, lock the pole, move it the way those wheels allow, then decide what you empty before a frost. The fill lines come from the eight amazon.co.uk files in the [parasol base with wheels comparison](/hub/sun-shades/parasol-base-with-wheels), read on 21 October 2026. We did not test these shells in a freeze. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Use the figure printed on that base

Fill to the line that listing gives you, and stop when the title and the bullet disagree. RAOKUKH's bullet says 41.8 lb of sand or 19 litres while the title says 100 lb. Pour to the bullet. Digury's 125 lb is only in the title, Casafield prints 45.36 kg with no split, and DorBuphan prints no filled weight. Wheel-count shopping stays on the parasol base with wheels buying guide.

Seat the pole, then the wheels

The pole goes in before you roll a full shell. Use the sleeves or knobs the listing prints. The cheaper AOSTD includes two aluminium sleeves and a wrench for 1.26–1.97 in. The larger AOSTD prints the same pole range and lists only Base, so do not assume the sleeves are in that box. COZEER, RAOKUKH, and Casafield describe knobs for their own pole lines. A United States text on Digury says a 1.5 in pole still wiggled after the top adjuster was tightened. If the pole rocks, more water will not turn a loose sleeve into a fit. COZEER's bullet says tool-free, and the details line says assembly is required.

Two wheels tilt; more wheels roll

Two wheels and a handle are a tilt. Christow's shop page, which is not one of these ASINs, describes tipping a two-wheel base onto its wheels. Casafield and COZEER match that layout. A United States review of COZEER says you take the umbrella out and tilt the base. The one United Kingdom review, dated 12 September 2026, says it is not easy to move. Four and five wheels are the rows that claim to roll. RAOKUKH prints four wheels and two locks. Both AOSTD rows print five wheels and two locking castors. Lock the wheels after the base is where you want it. Do not roll a full base down steps.

Drain water before frost is a habit, not a line on these listings

Gardenesque says to remove water before a cold snap so it does not freeze and crack the base. Belveo says water is easier to empty than sand. None of the eight listings prints that frost sentence. Treat draining as a shop habit, not as a test of these shells. Cococheers names two side drainage outlets. If water leaves as fast as you pour it, stop and use the Consumer Rights Act 2015 route for goods that are not of satisfactory quality. The best parasol base with wheels page is where each row's job and skip sit.

Common questions

What do you fill first if you mix sand and water?
Only where the listing prints a combined total. The cheaper AOSTD says water, sand, or both for 100 lb. The larger AOSTD says both for 140 lb. Cococheers names a mixture and does not print a ratio. Do not invent a percentage.
Which bases in this set print a litre or pound figure?
COZEER prints 30 litres or 123 lb (56 kg). Both AOSTD rows print pound totals and no litres. RAOKUKH's bullet prints 19 litres or 41.8 lb, against a 100 lb title. Cococheers claims 150 kg with water and no litres. Casafield prints 45.36 kg as a load, with no split.
How do you move two wheels compared with four or five?
Tip a two-wheel base onto the wheels with the handle, which is the Christow pattern and what a COZEER review describes, often with the pole out. Four wheels on RAOKUKH, five on the AOSTD rows, and four castors on the Cococheers cross are written as a roll.
Do you lock the wheels before or after you place the parasol?
After the base is in place. A lock that is on while you are still crossing the patio makes you drag the shell. The AOSTD and RAOKUKH listings are the ones that print locks. Casafield and COZEER do not print a brake.
What do you drain before frost, and which files actually say so?
Drain water, as a shop habit from Gardenesque and Belveo, so a freeze does not expand in the tank. None of these eight listings prints that instruction. Sand is the fill you will struggle to remove, which is Belveo's other point.
Why might a full shell still leak, from the review notes only?
United States texts describe water leaving the bottom of the shared AOSTD sample, a winter hole and a scraped hole on RAOKUKH, a hole by the COZEER fill cap, and a leak beside a Digury wheel. Those are reports in the files, not a measured leak. If the shell will not hold water on the first fill, stop pouring and take it up with the seller.
What must you not do on steps?
Do not roll a full base down them. No listing in this set prints that sentence. A filled shell is heavy, and a small wheel does not hold on an edge. Move it on the level, with the canopy closed, and empty it if the only route is a step.
