A sound manual awning, with a second adult and a dry afternoon, is the case reviewers describe. Green Bay fits run from about 40 minutes to about two hours, often with no leaflet. Dickson asks for two people, three if the awning is large, and says stop if you are not confident. Stop if you would be alone with a spring-loaded arm. Tie the arms before the cloth comes off. A disconnected arm is a hazard at head height. Stop if the cassette is seized, the arms are bent, or the brackets move. A new cloth does not raise the wind class. BS EN 13561 classes the awning, not the panel. Stop if a motor cannot be isolated. Keep children away from the crank.

Open arm, half cassette and full cassette are not the same job. A cloth that is too long rubs in a full cassette. Do not treat one set of caps as universal. On a dry day, extend a typical open arm, tie the arms, remove the front-bar caps, and slide the old cloth out. Green Bay reviews say the plastic bead is not in the box. Keep it. If a centre seam is bulky, check the rod will pass. One review describes a tear after a rod would not pass. Wash grit out of the bare channel, slide the new cloth in, and refit the caps. The bullets say the real cloth is about 12 cm less than the awning name. One review measured about 1.86 m against a stated 2 m. Cut only after the cloth is on the frame.

Retract in heavy rain rather than leave water sitting in the cloth. That is the Samson line UK firms use. Green Bay’s 17 L/m²/h is water-resistant polyester, not a wet week outdoors. A rain-through note in the file belongs to a larger nominal size. Dry a damp cloth open before you roll it, or mildew starts in the hem. Creases from a folded parcel ease in mild weather. What the recover firm does instead

Barlow Blinds describes a survey, cloth in about three to seven weeks, then the awning away for about a week. You are not on a ladder with a sprung arm. That is the path for a cassette you will not open, or for acrylic that is not in these rows. The price is not £38.99. If the frame is sound and near Green Bay’s 2.5 m x 2 m, the home swap is what the 394 reviews describe, with a second person there.

Common questions

Can I change the cloth with the awning left on the wall?
Yes, that is the usual home method: the brackets stay, and the cloth slides out of the front bar and the roller. It is not a one-person lift. Dickson asks for two people, three if the awning is large. If the awning has to come off the wall, treat that as the recover firm’s job unless you already know the fixings.
Do I need two people?
Yes for the cases reviewers describe. Green Bay fits in this file run from about 40 minutes to about two hours with two adults. One Celtty review mentions about 15 minutes, which is not a promise for a larger frame or a cassette. If you cannot get a second adult, book the firm.
What do I do about spring-loaded arms?
Tie them before the cloth comes off, and keep your head out of the arc if an arm is disconnected. Do not rely on the cloth to hold the arms open while you fetch a tool. If you cannot tie them safely, stop.
Why was there no instruction leaflet?
Because several Green Bay reviewers say the box did not contain one. The listing marks assembly as required and does not print a step sequence in the fields we stored. Use the order on this page as a general open-arm sequence, and stop where your cassette does not match it.
What if the new cloth has no bead?
Reuse the bead from the old hem. Green Bay reviews say it is not supplied. If you have already thrown the old cloth away, you do not have that bead, and forcing a hem without it is how the rod snags. A bulky centre seam can block the rod. Do not force it.
Can I leave the new canopy out in rain?
Not as a habit. Retract it when rain will pool, and dry it open before you roll it. Green Bay’s 17 L/m²/h line means water-resistant polyester, not a roof. The same retract rule is what UK awning firms tell owners of acrylic cloth as well.
When should I stop and call a fitter?
When you are alone with sprung arms, when the cassette is seized or the arms are bent, when the awning is motorised and you cannot isolate it, or when you need acrylic and a workshop recover rather than a stock polyester panel.
