Awning fabric buying guide

Updated: 22.10.2026

You have searched awning fabric on amazon.co.uk and the grid has mixed a hemmed garden canopy with cuts of cushion canvas. One is a finished panel for a frame you already own. The other is cloth you sew. This awning fabric buying guide puts those two jobs in order before you compare stars. We used the seven amazon.co.uk listings in our [awning fabric comparison](/hub/sun-shades/awning-fabric), captured on 19 October 2026. We did not run a rain test or a fade cabinet. A qualifying purchase through an amazon.co.uk link can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Panel or piece goods

A replacement canopy here is a hemmed panel. Green Bay’s grey AW2520FAGY-a1 is PU-coated polyester, 300 g/m², with a valance and a named size of 2.5 m x 2 m at £38.99. Celtty is custom polyester at £23.50, with no grams-per-square-metre figure. Neither box contains a frame. Piece goods are a rectangle you cut. Neotrims is 1 m of 411 g/m² canvas about 157 cm wide, at £9.95. A-Express is the £6.99 half-metre title, and its length lines do not agree. Dongawin sheets are 600D Oxford with a PVC coating claimed, and none describes a roller hem. A half metre can cover a chair. It cannot span a 2.5 m frame. There is no valance-only listing. Green Bay’s panel brings a valance with the canopy.

What the coating words allow

Waterproof on a title is a word until the listing gives a figure or a clear limit. Green Bay prints water-resistant, 17 L/m²/h. That is not a sealed roof. UK reviews do not agree about rain. A rain-through comment sits on a larger nominal size, so it is not evidence about this cloth. Retract when rain will sit in the canopy. Celtty says waterproof with no litres figure. Dongawin’s black page says both waterproof and water resistant. Neotrims puts PU on the front face and says the cloth is not for permanent outdoors through the year. Fit the coated face to the weather. The fibre split is on acrylic versus polyester.

What has to be in the box

Every row is cloth only. Green Bay’s highlight includes a valance. Reviews say the plastic bead is not supplied, so you reuse the old hem. Several reviewers say there was no leaflet, and that two adults needed from about 40 minutes to about two hours. Tie the spring-loaded arms before the old cloth comes off. Celtty’s assembly field says no, while reviews still describe fitting. If the old cloth is in the bin, you have lost the bead and the pattern. Green Bay prints that the real cloth is about 12 cm less than the awning. One UK review measured about 1.86 m against a stated 2 m. GOV.UK treats custom-made goods as outside a routine change-of-mind return. Two Celtty reviews found the cloth short, including one order 8 cm short.

How to read the prices and the stars

On 19 October 2026 the shelf runs from £6.99 to £38.99, and the star lines answer different questions. A-Express at £6.99 has 4.5 from 3,400. That count is craft canvas, not a 2.5 m roof. Neotrims at £9.95 has 4.6 from 1,092. Green Bay at £38.99 has 4.5 from 394, the canopy review base when the frame is about 2.5 m x 2 m. Celtty at £23.50 has 3.9 from 13. Blue and grey Dongawin share one 4.2 from 68. Do not add those counts. The black cut’s title and dimensions field disagree. If the arms are bent or the cassette is seized, book the frame first.

Common questions

Do I need a finished canopy or cloth by the metre?
You need a finished canopy when a frame is already on the wall and you are replacing the roof. In this set that is Green Bay’s fixed grey panel or Celtty’s custom polyester. You need cloth by the metre when you are sewing a cover or a small patch. Neotrims, A-Express and the Dongawin cuts are that second job.
Is waterproof on the title a roof I can leave out?
No listing here is a tested roof you leave out in heavy rain. Green Bay prints water-resistant at 17 L/m²/h. The other waterproof lines have no litres figure. Neotrims tells you not to leave the cloth out all year. Retract the awning when rain will pool, whichever cloth you bought.
Why do two listings with 4.5 stars solve different jobs?
Green Bay’s 4.5 from 394 is people fitting a hemmed canopy. A-Express’s 4.5 from 3,400 is people sewing canvas for covers and bags, with fade as a repeated complaint. The star average can match while the product does not. Read the review count against the job, not against the other row.
What weight should a replacement panel state?
Green Bay states 300 g/m². Neotrims states 411 g/m² on a sewing canvas, which is a different product. Celtty, A-Express, and the Dongawin sheets do not state grams per square metre. A missing weight is a reason to be cautious, not a reason to invent one. Trade acrylic is not an ASIN in this table.
Does the box include the frame, the valance, and the bead?
The frame is never included. Green Bay’s highlight includes a valance. Celtty does not state a valance. Reviews of Green Bay say the bead is not in the box, so you reuse the old one. If you have already thrown the old hem away, you do not have that bead.
Do I need a fire-rated cloth for a house patio?
Not on the evidence in these listings. None of them cites BS 7837. A domestic patio awning is not the same brief as a commercial terrace that has been told to use a fire-retardant cloth. If someone has asked you for a certificate, this shelf does not supply it.
What should I measure before a custom order?
Measure the old cloth with a metal tape if you still have it, and write down width, projection, hem type, and whether a valance is separate. Then read the seller’s own shortfall. Green Bay says about 12 cm less. Celtty reviews include an 8 cm miss.
