Sun lounger buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a patio or a lawn, a budget in pounds, and a page of amazon.co.uk titles that all say sun lounger. What arrives can be a long folding bed, a pair of chairs that tip your feet up, or one wheeled lounger that a UK review says will not lie flat. This sun lounger buying guide puts those checks in order before the star line, because 4.6 from thousands of reviews can still be the wrong object. Shelf prices in the files dated 15 October 2026 run from £19.99 to £149.75. We read eleven listings and did not lab-test them. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The full table is the [sun lounger comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/sun-lounger).

Bed, gravity chair, or wheeled lounger

Start with how you intend to use the afternoon. A fold-flat bed in this set is a long surface, about 178–200 cm, that the listing says you can use flat or with the back raised. A zero-gravity chair is a different seat. Which? describes these chairs as closer to recliners than to sunbeds, because they tip back and lift your legs. Which? also says it has not tested sun loungers, so that sentence is a definition, not a score. The third object is the Grand patio lounger at £149.75, where a UK review says the back does not go flat and the wheels are fitted by the buyer. If you want to lie on your front, you are in the bed column. If you want two people sitting with their feet raised, a single 4.5 kg camp bed is the wrong shape. Only three of the stored Grand patio reviews are from the United Kingdom. How a bed differs from a gravity chair is in sun lounger vs zero gravity chair. The conditioned picks sit on best folding sun lounger.

Length, fold, and what you can carry

Fold-flat lengths in this set sit around 178–200 cm. KingCamp’s bullet says 200 × 68 cm. ATORPOK and Mopaicot are listed at 190 × 70 × 30 cm. Lichfield’s open size is 180 × 60 × 30 cm, with a folded pack of 80 × 61 × 16 cm and an item weight of 4.5 kg. Straame is 16.3 kg for two chairs, and SereneLife is 18.2 kg for two. A pair price does not tell you the carry. Gravity-chair dimensions are upright-chair sizes, not bed lengths. Mosii is specified at 90 × 65 × 110 cm. If you compare that height with a sunbed’s 30 cm bed height, you will think one of the numbers is wrong. They are different measurements of different objects. Lichfield gives you a folded size in the bullet, then an Is Foldable field that says No. Mosii does not state a folded size at all. Lichfield names aluminium at 4.5 kg. Grand patio also names aluminium, at 10 kg.

The load on the bullet and the 110 kg standard

BS EN 581-2 tests for outdoor seating are based on users up to 110 kg. No raw file in this comparison includes an EN 581-2 report. A bullet that says 150 kg or 200 kg is the seller’s claim. Lichfield shows how easy it is to misread a figure. A maximum-weight field of 4.6 kg sits next to an item weight of 4.5 kg. That is the product, not a person. Amazon Basics and Mopaicot state no user load at all. KingCamp’s bullet says 200 kg and a later field says 330 pounds, so the page does not agree with itself. If you are over 110 kg, treat every higher figure as unverified. The lock matters as much as the kilogram line. LSBIKE, at 3.6 from 71 reviews, has UK reviews of a backrest that collapsed. Amazon Basics, at 3.1 from 238, has reviews of feet coming off and a clasp that dropped the back flat. Opening and locking the frame is covered in how to fold a sun lounger.

One price or a pair

AYDFUORT is £19.99. Lichfield is £46.39, and Mosii is two chairs at £49.99. Straame is two chairs at £59.99. KingCamp is one bed at £89.99. Grand patio is one lounger at £149.75. Those are shelf prices from the amazon.co.uk files dated 15 October 2026, not a promise that the live price will still match. A set-of-two price is the price of the pair. Mosii at £49.99 is not £49.99 per chair unless you say you divided it, and this page does not. ATORPOK is also £49.99, and it is one padded lounger, so the pound figure alone cannot choose for you. Stars still come last. Straame’s 4.6 from 3,832 reviews is a large sample, and the title says up to 170 degrees while the spec says three positions. Use the type, the load you can actually read, and the weight you can carry, and only then the stars.

Common questions

Is a zero-gravity chair the same as a sunbed?
A sunbed in this set is a long folding surface, about 178–200 cm, that listings describe as lying flat. A zero-gravity chair tips back and lifts your legs, which is why Which? treats it as closer to a recliner than to a sunbed. Which? has not tested these products. If you need to lie on your front, the chair will not do that job.
What length is a normal folding sun lounger?
In this amazon.co.uk set, fold-flat beds are listed at about 178–200 cm long. Examples include Lichfield at 180 × 60 × 30 cm, ATORPOK at 190 × 70 × 30 cm, and KingCamp’s bullet at 200 × 68 cm. Gravity chairs are not that long. Their dimensions are upright-chair sizes, such as Mosii at 90 × 65 × 110 cm. Compare like with like before you decide a listing is short.
Does a higher kilogram claim mean it passed a standard?
BS EN 581-2 seating tests are based on users up to 110 kg, and none of these raw files includes a report. Bullets here claim 120 kg, 136 kg, 150 kg, or 200 kg. Those are seller statements. Lichfield’s 4.6 kg maximum matches the item weight, not a person. If the page states no user load, as with Amazon Basics and Mopaicot, you do not have a figure to trust.
Should I buy one bed or a set of two?
Buy one bed when one person needs to lie flat. Buy a set of two when you want two feet-up chairs and you have read the pair weight. Mosii is two chairs at £49.99 and 8.2 kg, without a label saying whether that weight is one chair or the pair. Straame is two at £59.99 and 16.3 kg. KingCamp at £89.99 is one padded bed.
How heavy is too heavy to carry?
That depends on your stairs and whether you are carrying one frame or two. Lichfield at 4.5 kg is the light end of this file. Grand patio is 10 kg. Straame is 16.3 kg for two and SereneLife is 18.2 kg for two. A weight you can slide across a patio can still be awkward on a first-floor landing. If the folded size is missing, as it is on Mosii, you also cannot tell whether the pair fits the cupboard.
What if the backrest collapses on day one?
Stop using it. UK reviews of LSBIKE describe a collapsed backrest, and UK reviews of Amazon Basics describe feet coming off and a clasp that dropped the back flat. That pattern is a fault, not a technique you should keep testing with someone’s weight. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, faulty goods can be rejected, and within six months the trader has to prove the item was not faulty when sold.
