Rattan sun lounger buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing a rattan sun lounger for a UK patio, and the title is doing more work than the specification. One listing in this set is a chaise about 195 cm long. Another is a recliner about 103 cm tall. A third is a four-piece daybed. This rattan sun lounger buying guide is the order of questions before you compare stars: shape, then weave, then frame, then cushion, then a load figure that agrees with itself. Prices and the side-by-side grid stay on the [rattan sun lounger comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/sun-lounger-rattan). The Products Compared editorial team read the amazon.co.uk listings on 16 October 2026 and did not run a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A single sunbed in this set is a long, low chaise with an adjustable back. EVRE model 8530 is 196 x 66 x 22 cm. Outsunny 862-025V70GG prints 195 x 60 x 30 cm in the bullet, with a seat of 60 x 122 cm and a seat height of 30 cm. The grey Keter Daytona is about 195 x 65 x 25.5 cm. If the long side is near 195 cm and the width is about 60–66 cm, you can lie down. The Grand patio MOOR is 80 x 71 x 103 cm and weighs 23 kg. The title says recliner sun lounger. The form is a chair with a footrest and a flip table, not a bed you stretch out on. The EVRE Bali set is 180 x 160 x 143 cm, with four corner seats and a canopy. That footprint is a piece of furniture for two. Until you know you want one person lying flat, the weave question is the wrong first question. None of the six listings states wheels. Foot pads on the Outsunny 862-025V70GG are not a substitute for wheels if you need to roll the bed across a lawn.

Weave, frame, and cushion

Polyethylene is the outdoor stand-in for natural rattan. BBC Gardeners' World puts PE outside and natural rattan under cover, because natural cane fades and rots when it stays wet. A bullet that says polyethylene rattan or PE rattan is describing strands woven over a frame. EVRE 8530 says that. Outsunny says PE rattan and plastic wicker. A bullet that says rattan-style flat weave, flat rattan look, or plastic is a moulded surface. How the strands differ is on PE rattan or moulded rattan-look. The frame metal matters once the shape is a chaise. BBC Gardeners' World says steel frames are prone to rust and should be stored inside over winter. EVRE says powdered steel. Outsunny says galvanised steel in one line and powder-coated metal in the bullet. The Grand patio bullets say e-coated steel, the frame field says wood, and the finish says aluminium. If one page names three materials, do not pick a metal from the title. Cushion thickness is printed on two woven chaises only. EVRE states 7 cm in three sections with ties. Outsunny states 5 cm with a removable, washable cover, and one UK review calls that mattress too thin. BS EN 581-2 does not cover removable upholstery, so a thick pad is comfort, not a safety certificate.

Load, size, and assembly

BS EN 581-2:2015 sets mechanical safety tests for outdoor adult seating. Those tests are based on users up to 110 kg, and they exclude cushions, castors, and weathering. EN 581-2:2026 was made available by CEN on 20 May 2026. Do not assume a listing used either edition. None of these listings shows a certificate. A seller figure above 110 kg is not that standard. Read both load lines before you trust one. The grey Daytona bullet says 110 kg, which matches the test basis of the 2015 standard without proving the bed was tested to it. The graphite Daytona field says 150 kg. Outsunny says 120 kg in the dimension bullet and 160 kg in the weight field. EVRE 8530 and the Bali daybed state no load at all. If the two numbers disagree, the page has not settled the limit. You should not average them. Item weight is a carrying fact, not a strength fact. The single chaises sit around 13–16.4 kg: the grey Daytona prints 11 kg and 13 kg, EVRE is 14.5 kg, Outsunny is 15.6 kg, and the graphite Daytona is 16.4 kg. The recliner is 23 kg. The daybed is 41.6 kg in three boxes. Assembly is required on the chaises.

What to check on the listing

The last pass is a short list of conflicts, not a star ranking. On Outsunny, confirm whether you are buying 60 cm or 68 cm of width, and whether you are planning for 120 kg or 160 kg. On EVRE 8530, accept that polyethylene is in the bullets and faux rattan is in the material field, and that no kilogram limit is printed. On the grey Daytona, the title is a flat rattan look on a plastic lounger, and a UK review says it is plastic, not rattan. On the graphite Daytona, the guarantee is three years excluding cushions, and a UK review says the pad stained after a light shower. On the Grand patio, the assembly field says no, and UK reviews describe screws. On the Bali set, the bullets say PE rattan and the material field says polyurethane. If a part is missing when you open the box, photograph it before you start, because a half-built bed is harder to return. If a hinge weld has already failed, stop using the bed. That is not a cleaning job. Winter covers are on how to look after a rattan sun lounger.

Common questions

How long and how wide is a single rattan sun lounger?
In this set a single chaise is about 195–196 cm long and about 60–66 cm wide. EVRE 8530 is 196 x 66 x 22 cm. The grey Daytona is about 195 x 65 x 25.5 cm. Outsunny prints 195 x 60 x 30 cm in the bullet and 195 x 68 cm in the size field, so the width is not one agreed figure. A chair at 80 x 71 x 103 cm is a recliner, not that sunbed.
Is polyethylene the outdoor rattan?
Polyethylene woven over a frame is the material UK guides treat as outdoor rattan. BBC Gardeners' World keeps natural rattan under cover because it fades and rots when wet. A listing that only says rattan-style, rattan look, or plastic is not making the same claim. Read the bullet, not the word rattan in the title.
Should the frame be aluminium or steel?
BBC Gardeners' World says steel frames are prone to rust and should be stored inside over winter. Aluminium is the metal other UK buying guides prefer under a weave, and that is general advice, not a test of these ASINs. If one listing says wood, steel, and aluminium, you do not yet have a frame metal.
How thick a cushion is enough?
EVRE states 7 cm in three sections with ties. Outsunny states 5 cm, and one UK review calls that mattress too thin. Ties are what Which? points to if the pad creeps. Thickness is comfort. It is not a weathering test, and BS EN 581-2 does not cover removable upholstery. Bring the cushion in when it is cold or wet.
What load can I trust if two fields disagree?
Use the figure the page actually prints, and do not invent a third. Outsunny prints 120 kg and 160 kg. The grey Daytona bullet says 110 kg. The graphite field says 150 kg. EVRE 8530 and the Bali set state none. BS EN 581-2:2015 tests are based on users up to 110 kg, and none of these files shows that certificate.
Does sun lounger mean I can lie flat?
Only if the dimensions are a chaise and the back is said to go down. Outsunny says five positions and a flat sunbathing angle. EVRE says five brackets. Both Daytonas say four positions. The Grand patio is a button recliner to 150 degrees in a chair-sized frame. The Bali set has no recline line because it is four seats and a canopy.
Do I need wheels, and what if a part is missing?
None of these six states wheels, so do not assume you can roll them. If a part is missing on day one, stop the build and use the 30-day right to reject under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. A UK review of EVRE 8530 says a missing part was replaced. That is one report, not a promise that every parcel is complete.
