How to use a Lafuma deckchair

Updated: October 2026

You have a Maxi Transat or an R Clip, or the box is in the hall, and the afternoon will go wrong if you sit before the lock is set or if you leave the frame on a wet balcony until March. How to use a Lafuma deckchair is a short sequence: set the position, fold it only when it is empty, wash and dry the sling, and store the frame somewhere dry. It does not rank the four amazon.co.uk listings. Those sit on the [Lafuma deck chair](/hub/sun-loungers/lafuma-deck-chair) comparison. Cupboard height is on [Lafuma deckchair for a small balcony](/hub/sun-loungers/lafuma-deck-chair/sub/lafuma-deck-chair-small-space). Which family you bought is on the [Lafuma deck chair buying guide](/hub/sun-loungers/lafuma-deck-chair/sub/lafuma-deck-chair-buying-guide).

Set the position before you sit

A Maxi Transat uses a four-position safety rack. Lafuma's own Batyline product page describes that lock, a removable canvas, and a chair of about 3.7 kg. Choose the notch while the chair is empty, and check that the tube is sitting in the rack before you put your weight on the sling. The brand does not print a finger-by-finger script in the UK page we used. Treat lock engaged, then sit, as the rule of thumb that matches the safety rack, and keep your hands off the hinge while someone else lowers themselves in. The R Clip has three recline positions, a clipped sling, and plastic armrests on a track. Set the position while it is empty, and keep your fingers clear of the clips. The brand's 127-degree zero gravity line is a description of the angle, not a medical claim. If you struggle to stand, the Futura's fixed armrests are the brand's suggestion, and that chair is not in this set. Amazon's kept listings say to use a hard floor. A soft membrane or standing water is a poor base, because the feet need a level surface. A Maxi Transat has no sunbed-flat position; that tick belongs to the Transabed. If the notch will not hold, stop before you add a guest.

Fold it only when it is empty

Fold a Maxi Transat with nobody in it, and with hands away from the tubes as the frame closes. Brand sheets describe a flat fold of about 5 cm or about 6 cm. Follow the sheet that arrived with your chair, and stop if a tube will not seat. In this Amazon set, Graphite says foldable and the Seigle Maxi Transat conflicts. R Clip Seigle says foldable; Océan conflicts. If you already own the chair, the frame in front of you matters more than a messy field. If you are about to buy, that conflict is a buying problem on Lafuma Maxi Transat vs R Clip. An R Clip fold, on the UK family sheet for a Terre colour, is about 67 cm wide, 17 cm deep, and 99 cm high, at 6.6 kg. Use that as the storage shape of the family, not as the Amazon size string, which does not match the sheet. Carry it by the frame. Do not drag the sling across a threshold. A wet sling folded into a bag is the mould problem, not a storage solution.

Wash, dry, and put it away

Clean the frame with soapy water and the non-abrasive side of a sponge. Lafuma's 2026 transat notice points the canvas towards the brand's own stain remover, and it tells you to protect the furniture when it is not in use. For ordinary dirt, soapy water on the Batyline, a rinse, and a full dry is the domestic routine. Skip bleach, scrubbing pads, and a pressure washer. The sling is removable on the Maxi Transat, which helps you dry it off the frame. Put it back only once both the fabric and the tubes are dry. A weather-resistant bullet is not a winter plan. Store the frame in a dry shed, garage, or loft, and avoid a damp cellar. A cover alone is not the brand's answer to a wet winter. The deckchair bag was £59.99 and is sized for a Maxi Transat, a Transatube, and a Transabed, not automatically for an R Clip. The recliner cover was a separate £54.99 product. A wet sling inside a closed cover is the mould risk. Dry it, then put it where the air is dry.

When to stop using it

Stop when the frame bends, a weld opens, the rack will not hold, or clips are already breaking. A UK review on the shared R Clip pool, dated 15 July 2026, describes clips breaking in the second summer. That is the example of a stop, not a home repair. Do not keep sitting a chair that collapses, and do not drill or weld a domestic frame because a video suggested it. Report the product if someone is injured, and use the seller if the chair fails early. On an amazon.co.uk order the contract is with that seller. You can reject faulty goods within 30 days under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and after that the route is repair or replacement. For six months a fault is presumed present at delivery unless the trader shows otherwise. Lafuma's five-year shop warranty is a different channel and excludes accessories. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We have not tested these chairs.

Common questions

How do I set a recline position without pinching a finger?
Set the Maxi Transat's four-position safety rack while the chair is empty, and check the tube is in the notch before you sit. Keep your hands off the hinge as you lower yourself. On an R Clip, set one of the three positions the same way, clear of the clips. Lafuma's UK page names the safety rack. It does not give a numbered finger diagram, so the rule is lock first, sit second.
How do I fold a Maxi Transat flat?
Empty the chair, keep your hands clear of the closing tubes, and follow the sheet supplied with the frame. Brand pages describe a flat fold of about 5 cm or about 6 cm, depending on the page. If a tube will not seat, stop. Forcing it is the finger risk, and a bent tube is a reason to contact the seller.
Can I leave Batyline out in the rain?
A shower is what the weather-resistant claims are aimed at, and you should still let the sling and the frame dry. Leaving the chair on wet ground through a British winter is the opposite of Lafuma's storage advice. The fabric can be outdoor cloth. The steel feet still want a dry shed, garage, or loft. A cover is an extra, not a substitute for that dry place.
How do I wash it?
Use soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge on the frame, then rinse. For the canvas, the 2026 notice points at Lafuma's own stain remover for marks, and ordinary dirt comes off with soapy water. Dry the sling fully before you fold it or zip it into a cover. Bleach, scourers, and a pressure washer are the wrong tools for Batyline.
Where should it spend a British winter?
In a dry shed, garage, or loft. Lafuma's winter article tells you to avoid a damp cellar. Dry the chair first. A deckchair cover at £59.99 in this pass fits a Maxi Transat, a Transatube, and a Transabed. An R Clip needs the recliner cover, a different product at £54.99, if you want a branded bag. The cover does not replace the dry room.
Does the deckchair cover fit an R Clip?
The deckchair travel bag is described for the Maxi Transat, the Transatube, and the Transabed. An R Clip is a thicker, heavier fold, about 17 cm deep on the family sheet. Use the recliner cover if you want a Lafuma bag for that chair. Putting a deckchair sack around a recliner is how a zip fails and the feet stay damp.
When is a broken clip a seller issue rather than a cleaning issue?
When the clip has failed in ordinary use, especially early, it is a quality complaint to the amazon.co.uk seller, not a stain. The July 2026 review of clips breaking in the second summer is that kind of stop. Clean dirt with soapy water. A bent frame, an open weld, or clips that no longer hold are a reason to stop sitting and to use your Consumer Rights Act remedies.
