2 person hammock buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are in the garden with a tape measure, and the listing says double. That word does not tell you whether two adults can lie down, or whether the hammock has anywhere to hang. This 2 person hammock buying guide is the order to settle first: anchors, then bed size, then the lower capacity figure, then the cloth. The [2 person hammock comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/2-person-hammock) holds the ten amazon.co.uk listings, the prices and the scores. The Products Compared editorial team read those listings and the UK reviews on 19 October 2026. Nothing here is a laboratory test. Trees or a stand

Start with the anchors. DD Hammocks puts a useful pair of living trees at least 15 cm across and about 3 to 5 metres apart. If you have that pair of trunks, a hammock with straps is the lighter buy. A fence, a single trunk or an empty patio means a stand in the box. In this set the nylon beds with straps run from £16.99 to £23.99. The stands UK reviews can actually use start at £75.99 for the Amazon Basics set and £89.19 for the VITA5. Stands here weigh 13.6 kg, 17.7 kg or 18.2 kg, which is a car boot, not a rucksack. The hang itself is on the how to hang a double hammock page.

What double means on the cloth

Two person is a claim, not a measured lying width. The Tyouki is 260 x 140 cm and £16.99, and UK reviews say two people can sit side by side. They do not lie together. If both of you want to lie down, skip that bed however tidy the stars look. Wider cloth is easier to share, and it is still not a promise. The larger AnorTrek and the Ovyuzhen are listed at 300 x 200 cm. The Ovyuzhen is £17.91 with only 67 reviews. The Amazon Basics bullets say two adults, and a UK review doubts a side-by-side lie. Who should take each listing is on the best double hammock page.

The lower capacity figure

Use the lower printed load for the two of you, and do not add swinging children on top. On the AnorTrek ON-AT-0063 the bullets say 230 kg and the specification line says 500 pounds. Those are not the same figure. The grey GOCAN title says 300 kg, a bullet says 500 lb, and the specification line says 226.8 kg. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, treats the description on the listing as part of what you are buying. The Ovyuzhen is the nylon bed whose lines all say 500 pounds. Agreement helps, and it is still not a British laboratory. None of these listings claims BS EN 581. If the lower figure is already close to your combined weight, pick a different bed.

Cloth only after the hang is possible

Nylon in this set weighs about 590 g to 880 g and UK reviews say it dries after rain. Cotton and canvas weigh about 1.55 kg to 1.9 kg, feel softer in the reviews, and should come indoors when the weather turns. Simply Hammocks, a UK retailer, makes the same split. The grey GOCAN includes rope, and a UK review says the hooks are extra, so a £28.89 cotton bed is not finished if you have no anchor points. Leave the full cloth comparison to the nylon or cotton hammock page. If you fail the anchor test, buy a stand or do not buy. If you fail the lie-down test, skip the 260 x 140 cm nylon.

Common questions

What should you check before the star rating?
Check anchors, bed size and the lower capacity figure before you compare stars. A 4.7 on a 590 g camping hammock is not a verdict on a 14 kg steel stand. A 4.3 on a 260 x 140 cm bed is not proof that two adults can lie down. Read the UK review that describes how people actually sat in that listing.
When do you need a stand instead of straps?
You need a stand when you do not have two living trees about 15 cm across and roughly 3 to 5 metres apart, which is the gap DD Hammocks describes. A fence or a balcony rail is not a substitute. In this set the usable stands are the Amazon Basics at £75.99 and the VITA5 at £89.19. Both are too heavy for a walk to a campsite.
What bed size is more likely to let two adults lie down?
A bed listed around 300 x 200 cm gives you more cloth than 260 x 140 cm. The Tyouki at 260 x 140 cm is the concrete case: UK reviews say two people sit, they do not lie together. Wider is more likely, not certain. The Amazon Basics bullets say two adults, and a UK review still doubts a side-by-side lie.
Who should pick nylon, and who should pick cotton?
Pick nylon if the hammock has to pack under about 1 kg and survive a shower. Item weights here run from 590 g to 880 g. Pick cotton if the bed lives in the garden and you will store it dry. Do not pick cotton for a rucksack, and do not leave it out for a wet week.
Do spreader bars make a hammock safer?
They hold the bed open. They do not make the hang safer. A gathered end wraps you, and a barred bed is easier to tip while you climb in. UK reviews of the VITA5 describe that tip, including a fall. The MOSFiATA bars are a shape choice for a 275 x 155 cm garden bed, not a safety mark.
