4.5kW sauna heater buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with a 4.5 kW sauna heater in the basket. The same family page often lists 3 kW, 6 kW and 9 kW, sometimes at 380 V, under a word that covers both a steam boiler and a stone stove. This 4.5kW sauna heater buying guide is the checkout check: confirm the selected variant, the volts, and whether you are heating a wet cubicle or a timber room. The [4.5kW sauna heater comparison](/hub/steam-baths/4-5kw-sauna-heater) holds the five listings we kept. We read those amazon.co.uk listings on 19 October 2026 and did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two machines share this kilowatt figure

A 4.5 kW figure only tells you the electrical load. It does not tell you the climate. Four of the kept listings are steam generators aimed at about 35–55°C, or 25–55°C on the CGOLDENWALL. The fifth, the BGAZA, is a wall-mounted stone stove with mechanical knobs and a stated maximum of 110°C. If you buy it for a tiled shower, you have bought the wrong machine. If you buy a Caiqinlen, LANYU, CGOLDENWALL or Hanchen for a hot Finnish cabin, you have the same problem in reverse. A generator belongs in a tanked cubicle, and a stone stove belongs in a timber room. That split is on the steam generator versus sauna heater page. A 110°C maximum is a sauna stove. A 55°C ceiling is a steam boiler.

Read the selected variant, not the family title

On amazon.co.uk one parent title often hides several machines. Before you order, the selected variant must say 4.5 kW, not merely sit inside a title that also mentions 6 kW or 9 kW. Volts are the second line to read. UK mains are a nominal 230 V single phase. A normal house does not have a 380 V or 400 V supply waiting beside the shower. The CGOLDENWALL table is the awkward case in this set: the listing says 220 V, and a pattern field also prints 380V. Those two figures cannot both be the supply you wire. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects the goods to match the description, which is cold comfort if the description contradicts itself. Ask the seller which figure is on the data plate of the unit they will send, and do not let an electrician guess. If the page is silent on the plug, assume you are hard-wiring.

What the price does not include

The five shelf prices run from £193.05 for the Caiqinlen to £589.00 for the Hanchen, with the LANYU at £199.00, the BGAZA at £206.87 and the CGOLDENWALL at £426.54. Those numbers are the unit as listed. They are not the installed room. The CGOLDENWALL list is the only one that itemises a nozzle, a 10 m control cable, a 3 m probe, a controller, a drain valve and a safety valve. Pipe, a stop valve, insulation and tanking are never in these boxes. Neither is the electrician, and on a steam generator you also need a plumber.

When a shop heater is the fairer comparison

If you want a hot timber sauna, the honest price check is a domestic stove from a UK sauna shop, not the cheapest steam boiler in this table. Harvia's KIP45 is a 4.5 kW wall stove rated by the maker for 3–6 m³, offered in 230 V and 400 V versions. On 19 October 2026 SaunaShop's price list showed a KIP-type 4.5 kW with stones at £294. PoolMarket listed a KIP at £331 including VAT, with stones extra. Those are shop prices for a named stove, not rows in our amazon.co.uk table, and they still need a dedicated circuit. The CGOLDENWALL, at £426.54, costs more than those shop stoves because it is a steam kit for 3–4.5 m³, not a stone heater.

Common questions

Can I plug a 4.5 kW heater into a normal socket?
No. A 4.5 kW load is about 19–20 A at UK mains voltage, and SaunaShop puts it at about 19 A. A BS 1363 socket is a 13 A outlet. None of the five listings we kept states that a UK plug is included. Plan on a dedicated circuit sized from the data plate, installed by an electrician, rather than a lead to the ring main.
How do I see whether the Amazon option is 4.5 kW or 6 kW?
Open the selected colour or style, not the family title. Several pages in the original search were 6 kW once the option was chosen, even though 4.5 kW appeared in the wording. The BGAZA title names 9 kW, 6 kW and 4.5 kW together; only the selected 4.5 kW colour belongs in this comparison. If the option line and the title disagree, do not order.
Is 380 V usable in a normal UK house?
A normal UK home is a 230 V single-phase supply. It does not offer 380 V or 400 V at a bathroom isolator. Some commercial stoves, including the 400 V version of a Harvia KIP45, are built for three-phase supplies. In this Amazon set the CGOLDENWALL prints both 220 V and 380 V. Treat that conflict as unresolved until the seller confirms the plate on the unit you would receive.
Are stones or a steam head in the box?
Only if the listing says so. The BGAZA describes stone capacity and does not say stones are included. The LANYU title includes a steam head and a controller. The CGOLDENWALL itemises a nozzle and valves. The Caiqinlen and the Hanchen leave the head and the box contents unstated. Budget for the missing part before you compare shelf prices.
Does a CE bullet mean the install is certified?
No. A CE line in a bullet is a claim on the product page, not a sign-off of your circuit or your bathroom. Building control notification in England and Wales, and the electrician's certificate, are separate from that mark. Scotland and Northern Ireland use their own building rules. The badge does not answer the voltage conflict either.
Should I buy the £193 generator or look at a shop KIP45?
Buy the £193.05 Caiqinlen only for a steam bath whose size you already accept without a stated volume. Buy a shop KIP-type stove, around £294 with stones at SaunaShop or £331 including VAT at PoolMarket, when the room is a timber sauna in the maker's 3–6 m³ band. They are different machines. The cheaper Amazon price does not make the steam generator a substitute for the stove.
