Welding helmet for TIG

Updated: October 2026

You are TIG welding a thin panel, the arc is small, and the helmet that was fine on MIG has just flashed light. That is the usual failure. A welding helmet for TIG has to see a dimmer, steadier arc, often with the torch hand close to the sensors. None of the twelve amazon.co.uk listings states a minimum TIG current, so this page will not invent one. It says what they claim, which reviews already describe flicker, and when to stop. The full table is the [Stahlwerk welding helmet comparison](/hub/soldering-and-welding/stahlwerk-welding-helmet). We used the captured listings and the UK review notes. We did not measure a switching current. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Why TIG misses the sensors

A MIG arc is bright, and most budget filters trip on it. A low-amp TIG arc on thin steel, or while you ease the pedal in, is smaller and steadier. If your hand, the cup or a steep torch angle covers the sensors, the lens can stay light or hunt. Four sensors are argued for because one blocked sensor need not leave the filter blind. That is a reason to prefer a stated count. It is not a test of these ASINs. A brochure claim of switching at about 1 A belongs to that filter, not to a DEKO, a HITBOX or an ANDELI here. No listing prints a lowest TIG amp. Two sensors can be enough for short MIG and still fail the first time you TIG a patch. Set the helmet before you blame the torch, on the how to use page.

What these twelve listings claim

Every row names TIG, or a process set that includes it. The sensor counts do not. HITBOX and both DEKO listings do not give you a number. LIMXYZ, MIGVAN H-11, the YESWELDER shade 4/9-13 model and the A810 state two sensors. TOOLIOM, YESWELDER LYG-Q800D, ATOMPLAN and MIGVAN H-25 state four. ANDELI states six, and it is one of two rows that print 1/1/1/1. ATOMPLAN is the other. That class describes the view. It does not say the sensors will hold a 40 A arc. The LYG-Q800D side windows are DIN 5 and do not auto-darken. ATOMPLAN’s side screens are fixed DIN 6. “True colour” is a visibility claim, not a TIG rating. Which classes are printed is in the buying guide.

Flicker that is already in the reviews

MIGVAN H-25 states four sensors, costs £99.99 and has 4.4 from 812 reviews. A UK reviewer said the lens flashed on TIG however delay and sensitivity were set, sent it back, and still saw a yellow spot two days later. That is one review, not a lab rate, and it is enough to stop you treating four sensors as a guarantee. ANDELI states six sensors and 1/1/1/1 at £103.99, with 41 reviews. One reviewer said TIG worked. Another said it flashed. On the DEKO MZ350T, one UK review says aluminium TIG worked for that person and mild-steel TIG worked less well. That is one helmet, not a rule. HITBOX has a daily-user line that includes TIG without a flicker complaint, and still states no sensor count or class. Price bands are on the best of this set page. None of these rows is cleared for untested low-amp TIG.

What to try once

Run one set-up on scrap of the same metal and thickness. Switch the helmet on. Take it out of grind. Raise sensitivity. Clean the sensor windows and peel any film. Hold the torch at the angle you will use, because a cupped hand over a two-sensor shell can hide a small arc. Watch whether the lens stays dark for the whole puddle, not just the first flash. DIN 5 or DIN 6 side panes will not darken with you. The larger YESWELDER has a UK note about TIG puddle visibility through the centre view, and its sides stay at DIN 5. If the lens still flashes after that one test, stop. Do not finish the panel while it hunts. A flash is UV on the eye even when the bead looks acceptable. Drop back to a process the helmet has already held, or to a passive dark shield.

When this set is the wrong basket

This set is the wrong basket if you need a stated low-amp TIG rating, a workplace assessment, or a Stahlwerk helmet. None of the twelve pages prints a minimum TIG current. ANDELI’s 1/1/1/1 and six sensors are the strongest claims in the file, and they still sit next to a flicker review and 41 reviews. H-25’s 812 reviews do not erase the yellow-spot report. An Amazon helmet is not a PPE assessment, and it does not extract TIG fume. If you still see a spot, or you develop severe eye pain, a change in sight, or a headache with light sensitivity, NHS.uk directs that to A&E or 999. Pain from arc eye often starts 6 to 10 hours later. An injury still present after 24 hours goes to NHS 111. This page does not describe treatment.

Common questions

Why does my helmet work on MIG and flash on TIG?
MIG is a brighter, less stable arc, so a two-sensor filter often trips. A low-amp TIG arc is smaller, and a hand or cup can cover the sensors. The lens then stays light or flashes. That pattern is already in UK reviews of the MIGVAN H-25 and the ANDELI, both of which state more than two sensors. It is a reason to test, not proof that every TIG arc will fail.
Do I need four sensors?
Four or six sensors are the stronger claim in this file, on TOOLIOM, the panoramic-style shells, MIGVAN H-25 and ANDELI. Two sensors are what the cheaper YESWELDER, LIMXYZ, H-11 and A810 state. H-25 has four and still has a TIG-failure review. Buy the higher count if you TIG, then prove it on scrap. Do not treat the number as a measured amp rating.
Will 1/1/1/1 stop the flicker?
No. Optical class grades the view, not the trip threshold. ANDELI prints 1/1/1/1 and six sensors, and one review still says it flashed on TIG. Another review says TIG worked. ATOMPLAN also prints 1/1/1/1, and its review set includes people who never welded in it. Class is worth having. It is not a TIG certificate.
Is a true-colour lens the same as a TIG rating?
No. “True colour” on these listings is a seller description of the view. It is not a minimum current, and it is not the four-digit class. You can have a true-colour claim on a helmet that does not state how many sensors it has. Judge TIG by the sensor line, the shade range, and a test arc.
Can I wear it for aluminium TIG?
One UK review of the DEKO MZ350T says aluminium TIG worked for that person and mild-steel TIG worked less well. That is one helmet and one reviewer. It does not clear the other eleven listings, and it does not clear every DEKO. Use the same scrap test, and stop if the lens flashes.
What should I do if I still see a spot after a flash?
Treat it as an eye injury, not as a shade setting. The H-25 reviewer still saw a yellow spot two days after the lens flashed on TIG. NHS.uk sends severe eye pain, a change in vision, or headache with light sensitivity to A&E or 999. If it is still there after 24 hours, contact NHS 111. Do not weld again that day on the same helmet.
Which rows in this set even claim TIG?
The process lines name TIG, or a set that includes it, across the file. HITBOX and both DEKO rows do not state a sensor count. Two-sensor claims sit on LIMXYZ, MIGVAN H-11, the £37.04 YESWELDER and the A810. Four-sensor claims sit on TOOLIOM, the LYG-Q800D, ATOMPLAN and the H-25. ANDELI states six. A claim on the bullet is not a test.
