Savage A41 vs Sentinel A60

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are looking at two ESAB helmets on amazon.co.uk, the Savage A41 at about £125 and the Sentinel A60 at about £310, and wondering whether the wider lens and half shades are worth more than double the money. Both are kept rows in the [ESAB welding helmet comparison](/hub/soldering-and-welding/esab-welding-helmet). The yellow A41 package at about £135 is the same filter family with gloves and a sweatband, not a third engine. This page is one fork on optics, shade band, controls, and weight. Air-fed kits and job-by-job picks are separate decisions.

What each helmet is for

The Savage A41, black or the yellow package, is the everyday shell for garage MIG and stick: four sensors on the black listing, true colour, external grind at shade 4, and spare outer lenses. The active band starts at DIN 8. That suits typical MIG and stick and is wrong for low-amp TIG that needs shade 5. The Sentinel A60 is the shell for people who live in the helmet: a larger ADF, DIN 3/5–13 in half steps including shade 5, internal sensitivity and delay, shade lock, nine memories, and OpTCS. You pay roughly two and a half times the black A41 for window, shade steps, and controls. Neither shell-only row extracts fume.

Viewing area and optics

ESAB UK quotes 100 × 50 mm on the A41 and about 118 × 71 mm on the A60. The A60 listing also gives 4.65 × 2.80 in. That extra view shows on vertical work. Short flat beads may not. A trade table lists optical class 1/1/1/2 on the A41 and 1/1/1/1 on the A60. The black A41 listing does not print those digits. The better off-axis class is a reason to step up if you look toward the edge of the cartridge. True colour on both families helps you read the puddle. It does not replace the shade-range check.

Shade range and controls

A41 listings: DIN 8–13, grind at shade 4 on an external button. A60 listing: DIN 3/5–13 in half steps, a grind mode LED, internal sensitivity and delay, shade lock, and nine memories. For low-amp TIG, the A60 is the kept shell that lists shade 5. External grind on the A41 is easy to find in gloves. The A60 packs more adjustment inside the shell, which suits mixed processes and takes longer on day one. Delay is named on the A60 table and is not stated for the black A41. Dial-in after purchase is on the shade and grind setup page.

Weight, batteries, and listing conflicts

Do not choose either helmet from one weight line. The black A41 is 800 g on amazon.co.uk and about 500 g on ESAB UK. The A60 is 453.59 g on the listing and about 644 g on ESAB UK. Try the headgear. The lighter amazon figure is not proof the shell feels lighter. Switching times disagree: ESAB UK cites 0.07 ms on the A41 and 0.04 ms on the A60, while the listing says 0.08 ms. The A60 battery field also conflicts, CR2450 in the bullets and 2 × CR2 elsewhere. Stock the cell that is fitted. The black A41 is 4.7 from 66 reviews. The A60 is 4.7 from 400 ratings, with only two United Kingdom bodies in a 50-review sample.

Which to buy

Choose the Savage A41 when the week is MIG and stick inside DIN 8–13, you want grind mode and spare lenses under about £140, and a 100 × 50 mm window is enough. Prefer black for four named sensors and 66 reviews. Prefer yellow if gloves and a sweatband save another order and you accept one rating with no review text. Choose the A60 when shade 5, half steps, memories, or the larger window change the week: low-amp TIG, mixed processes, or long stints out of position. Skip it if the A41 band already covers your amps. Neither shell replaces fume control. Powered air is the about £799 A60 Air row. The full order of criteria, without a winner, is how to choose an ESAB welding helmet.

Common questions

Is the A60 worth more than twice the A41 on amazon.co.uk?
Yes when you need shade 5, half steps, or the larger window often. No when DIN 8–13 and a compact field are enough. The gap is process fit, not fume extraction.
Which helmet has the larger viewing area in millimetres?
ESAB UK cites about 118 × 71 mm on the A60 versus 100 × 50 mm on the A41. The A60 listing also prints 4.65 × 2.80 in. Confirm both before you compare a supplier table.
Can the A41 do shade 5 TIG?
The kept A41 listings start at DIN 8. For shade 5 on the listing, pick the A60. Its band is DIN 3/5–13 in half steps.
Do both helmets have four sensors on the listings?
Four sensors are named on the black A41 and on the A60. The yellow package listing does not print a sensor count. Do not copy the black line onto that ASIN.
Which weight should I trust, Amazon or ESAB?
Both families conflict. The black A41 is 800 g on amazon.co.uk and about 500 g on ESAB UK. The A60 is 453.59 g on the listing and about 644 g on ESAB UK. Try the headgear.
Is the yellow package a different helmet?
Same DIN 8–13 band, grind at shade 4, and the same window. The carton adds gloves, a sweatband, and colour for about £10 more. The capture has one rating and no review text.
Which has the better optical class on supplier data?
A trade table lists 1/1/1/2 on the A41 and 1/1/1/1 on the A60. That matters if you use the edge of the window. The black A41 listing does not print the digits, so check the shell on delivery.
