Best outdoor extension lead: splash, reach or 10 m

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have seven amazon.co.uk listings that all sound outdoor, and the biggest star count is not three separate verdicts. The best outdoor extension lead on this page means a match inside this basket: a printed IP code if the sockets will see splash, a length you will unwind, and a review file that belongs to that ASIN. It does not mean a UK laboratory winner, and it does not include the Masterplug HLP2013/2IP reel outside these seven. The full rows are the [outdoor extension lead comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/outdoor-extension-lead). A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the stars cannot decide

Five of these listings show 4.6. That number is an amazon.co.uk average, not a test score from a magazine or a lab. Three of them show 21,068 reviews as well: the 25 m Status, the 15 m Status and the 10 m reel titled IONOS. The same fifty UK reviews sit on all three. Treat 21,068 as one copied line. The reviews you can tie to one product are smaller. The 20 m SLx IP54 reel has 4.6 from 4,160 on its own file. The 30 m SLx has 4.6 from 2,494. The 10 m four-socket SLx has 4.6 from 1,660. The straight Etykir lead has 4.5 from 70. A higher count does not repair a missing IP code, and a shared count does not prove which drum people were writing about. The order of checks is the outdoor extension lead buying guide.

The only printed IP54

If the socket face will sit out in splash, the listing that prints a code is the SLx 90025PI, 20 m, two covered sockets, £34.99 in the snapshot, 4.6 from 4,160. The bullets call the sockets splashproof and sealed. The title says waterproof. IP54 is the code to quote, and the bullets do not say immersion. SLx’s IP guide says the second digit 4 is splashing water, and that the lid has to be shut as instructed. Reviewers use those covers with a pressure washer and in the rain, and they also call the clips fragile. One review says the plug melted and that the thermal cut-out did not prevent it. That is a reason to stop and inspect, not a reason to call the reel hose-proof. No wound current is printed on the amazon.co.uk row. Reviews still say to unroll the cable fully. The reel-versus-bar choice is the cable reel or straight lead page.

Length and the wound figure

The long open reels are the 30 m SLx at £44.99 and the 25 m Status at £25.75. The 30 m listing has its own 2,494 reviews, four sockets, and a thermal cut-out in the bullets. Its table prints 36 watts and plug type B against a 13 A tri-core UK-plug bullet. One review describes smoke and a near fire with a portable air conditioner at about 5 or 6 A. The Philex instruction sheet for that 30 m family says not to use the reel in damp or wet conditions. A 30 m title that says outdoor is not the IP54 reel. The 25 m Status at £25.75 shares that review line and prints no IP code. The 15 m Status at £19.95 prints 13 A unwound and 5 A wound. A mower in the Philex examples can sit above 5 A, so the cable still comes off the drum.

Ten metres, reel or straight

Three listings stop at 10 m. The SLx RM at £19.99 has four sockets, a thermal cut-out, a claimed 13 A UK plug, and 4.6 from 1,660 reviews on that ASIN. Reviewers say the length suits a mower, and they also say the cable is stiff and the winder tangles. There is no IP code and no wound figure. For a short dry job, that own review file is the clearest cheap reel in the set. It is a poor match if the sockets will be rained on. The £16.95 reel is titled IONOS, while the brand field says Status. Weatherproof is a highlight word, and no IP code is printed. Cheapest is not best value when the name and the weather word do not hold. The Etykir bar at £19.99 has 4.5 from 70 reviews, and reviews quote indoor-only paperwork.

Common questions

Which listing prints IP54?
The SLx 90025PI, 20 m, two covered sockets, £34.99 and 4.6 from 4,160 in the snapshot we used. The bullets say splashproof. The title says waterproof. No other product in this set prints an IP code. A live Amazon offer can move; the comparison keeps the snapshot so the seven rows stay comparable.
Which listing is the long reach?
The 30 m SLx four-socket reel at £44.99, with 4.6 from 2,494 reviews on that ASIN. The 25 m Status at £25.75 is the other long reel, with a shared review count and no IP code. Neither prints IP54. The 30 m instruction sheet for that SLx family also says not to use it in damp or wet conditions, so length and weather are separate choices.
Which one prints a wound current?
The 15 m Status two-socket reel at £19.95. A bullet says up to 13 A fully unwound and 5 A when wound. The other six leave that figure off the amazon.co.uk listing. Philex prints 960 W wound for the 90025PI and for the 30 m family on its own pages. Those watts are not Amazon cells for the rest of the set.
Why do three Status listings show 21,068 reviews?
The 25 m four-socket reel, the 15 m two-socket reel and the 10 m IONOS-titled reel carry the same 4.6 from 21,068 line and the same fifty UK reviews. Other Status and IONOS reels outside this set still show a count in that neighbourhood. It is one copied line, not three audiences of 21,068. Do not add them together.
Is the cheapest reel the one for wet grass?
No. The £16.95 reel has no IP code. Weatherproof is a highlight word. The listing that prints a splash code is the £34.99 SLx, and even that code is IP54, not a claim that you can drop the reel in a puddle. Wet grass is also a reason to wait, which is an Electrical Safety First point, not a feature of the cheapest drum.
