Einhell cordless drill buying guide

Updated: October 2026

Twelve red 18 V drills can look almost interchangeable when you are choosing a tool for shelves, flat-pack furniture and the occasional wall plug. This Einhell cordless drill buying guide puts the decisions in a useful order: hammer drilling first, then what is actually in the box, then one credible torque figure, and only then the motor claim. The [Einhell cordless drill comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/einhell-cordless-drill) lists the saved amazon.co.uk prices and specifications. The distinction is whether the mode, the battery package and the chuck match the work. Prices are from those listings on 16 October 2026. This is not a lab test. Choose a hammer mode or a drill driver first

The TC-CD 18/35 listings are drill drivers. Their bullets describe drilling and screwdriving, and they do not state percussion. That suits screws, furniture and modest holes in wood or metal. It does not suit a run of plug holes in brick. Which? separates drill drivers from combi drills because a combi adds the hammer for masonry. Which? did not test these ASINs. The TE-CD and TP-CD listings generally state impact or hammer drilling. Find that sentence before you buy for brick. A photo, a combination-drill field or a high torque number is not a substitute. The TE-CD 18/44 names percussion in brick and stone. Repeated holes in hard concrete are an SDS job. Plug holes belong on the Einhell drill for brick page.

Read the included-components line

Solo means the body without a battery or charger: the TC-CD 18/35 Li-Solo, the TE-CD 18/50 Li-i BL Solo, the TE-CD 18/48 Li-i Solo, the TP-CD 18/80 and the TP-CD 18/120. A low solo price works when a Power X-Change pack and charger are already at home. Starting from nothing, it is only the first part of the bill. The £43 TC-CD 18/35 kit includes a 1.5 Ah battery and charger, and no stated hammer. The £44 TE-CD 18/44 includes a 2.5 Ah battery and charger, a stated hammer and a 13 mm chuck. That one-pound gap in the saved prices changes the type of drill. Prices move, so compare the live offers. The TE-CD 18/2 Li-i +22 adds a 2.5 Ah pack, a 3 A charger, an E-Box and 22 bits. The TE-CD 18/50 kit includes two 2.0 Ah packs and a case. A case that stays in the loft does not justify a large premium by itself. Bosch and Makita packs do not fit. The cost fork is Einhell drill solo or with battery.

Compare one torque figure, the gears and the chuck

The saved pages run from 35 Nm on the TC-CD models to 120 Nm on the strongest TP-CD body. More torque can help larger screws, and it tends to mean a heavier, costlier tool. A 44–50 Nm combi is the more balanced household choice for shelves, hinges and occasional plugs. The TE-CD 18/44 title, bullet and main torque field say 44 Nm. Another field says 14 Nm. Use the repeated 44 Nm and keep the conflict visible. On the twin pack, 44 Nm is the drill and 140 Nm is the hex impact tool. Quoting 140 Nm as the chuck drill’s torque would merge two machines. 21 speeds is the clutch, not 21 gears. The numbered ring limits screwdriving torque. The TC-CD highlight says one speed, so gear two does not apply. Einhell’s UK guide recommends first gear for long screws and second for drilling where both exist. Both TC-CD listings use a 10 mm chuck. Many TE-CD and TP-CD combis state 13 mm. Speed fields of 24,000 rpm or more resemble impact rates, not spindle speed.

Treat brushless and charger claims as claims to verify

Trust a brushless claim when the listing agrees with itself. It is stated for the TE-CD 18/50 bodies and kit and for several TP-CD models. The twin pack’s specification says brushless, while several UK reviewers report sparking and describe brushed motors. That conflict is more useful than the label. Three extracted UK reviews for the TE-CD 18/40 Li-i +64 say a European two-pin charger arrived without an adaptor. A UK charger should suit a BS 1363 socket. Do not improvise a repair or keep using a damaged unit. Electrical Safety First advises the original charger on a stable surface, and stopping if a battery swells, smokes or becomes unsafe. The best Einhell cordless drill page applies these checks to three choices.

Common questions

Does an Einhell drill come with a battery?
Only when the included-components line names one. Solo listings in this comparison contain the body without a battery or charger. Kits range from one 1.5 Ah pack to two-battery packages, so read the exact line rather than relying on product photographs.
What does 21 speeds mean?
On these listings, 21 normally refers to numbered clutch settings, not 21 gearbox speeds. The clutch limits torque while driving screws. Gear count is separate. The TC-CD highlight says one speed, while many TE-CD and TP-CD models state two gears.
Which torque number should I trust when two are printed?
Use the number repeated in the model title, the manufacturer page and the coherent product bullets, and keep the conflict visible. For the TE-CD 18/44, 44 Nm is repeated and 14 Nm appears as an inconsistent field. Do not combine figures from the two tools in a twin pack.
Will a Bosch battery fit Power X-Change?
A shared 18 V rating does not mean that the casing, the terminals or the battery electronics are compatible. Use an Einhell Power X-Change battery specified for the platform rather than forcing or adapting another brand’s pack.
What should I do with a European two-pin charger?
Do not use an improvised connection. Check the live listing and contact the seller for a correct UK charger or a resolution. If any charger or battery becomes damaged, swollen or smoky, disconnect it only if that is safe, and stop using it.
