Bench grinder wire wheel or stone

Updated: October 2026

You are about to treat the second accessory as the finer one, and on one of these machines it is a brush. A bench grinder wire wheel or stone is a choice about what you remove. K60 scratches metal more finely than K36. A wire brush takes off rust, paint, and scale, and it does not cut a bevel. The [double grinder comparison](/hub/sanders/double-grinder) lists the three Einhells. This page is the accessory decision, with the TC-BG 150 B as the brush listing. Listings and UK brush-safety guidance were checked on 16 October 2026. We did not run a wire wheel. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each side of the machine is for

K36 cuts quickly and leaves a deep scratch. K60 is finer and still a dry wheel at 2,980 rpm, not a hone. A wire brush is neither. Einhell assigns the TC-BG 150 B brush to rust, paint, and bolts, and the K36 wheel to shape. Amazon's box is one grinder, one grinding wheel, and one brush. There is no K60. The other two listings ship K36 and K60. The 150 B swaps the fine stone for a cleaning wheel. Diameter and duty are on the buying guide.

Rust and paint versus a bevel

A brush with light pressure takes off what is sitting on the surface. Einhell's manual says to move the work away if the brush grabs, then wait until speed returns and use less force. A stone removes metal and changes a dimension. That is what you want on a bevel, and what you do not want on a thread you still need. Rusty shears can go to the brush first and the stone second, if the edge is stout. A bypass secateur is a poor candidate for either dry wheel. The garden tools page keeps that blade on a hand stone. After the rust is gone you still have the edge you started with.

Wires leave the wheel

A wire wheel sheds. Felton Brushes says wires leave the brush and you should use light pressure with a face shield over glasses that have side shields. A Birmingham eye-unit paper reports a penetrating injury even though the glasses met a British standard. The spark window on the TC-BG 150 B is not a face shield. The six United Kingdom texts do not mention shedding. Wear the shield anyway, and keep the guard on.

Which listing matches the job

Buy the stone pair when you will grind a bevel and hone later: the TC-BG 150, or the TC-BG 200 L if you can bolt down about 12 kg and you want the light. Buy the TC-BG 150 B when rust is the main job and a coarse stone is enough. Skip it if you need K60 today. A later brush must match diameter, bore, and a speed rating at or above 2,980 rpm. Einhell's spare-brush page lists a 32 mm bore with a 12.7 mm ring. Do not use that page's euro price, and do not copy a US 3,450 rpm wheel onto these machines. Price skips are on the best bench grinder page.

Common questions

Will a wire wheel sharpen a chisel or a knife?
No. The brush cleans rust, paint, and scale. It does not cut a bevel. Einhell assigns sharpening to the K36 stone on the TC-BG 150 B. A UK review mentions whittling knives, which is about the stone, not proof that a dry wheel is gentle. After K36 you still need a hone if the edge must cut cleanly.
Does the TC-BG 150 B include a fine stone?
No. The box is one bench grinder, one grinding wheel, and one brush disc. The highlight is a coarse K36 wheel and a wire brush. K60 is what you get on the TC-BG 150 and the TC-BG 200 L. If you need the finer stone today, this is the wrong listing.
Are safety glasses enough for a wire wheel?
BS EN 166 glasses are the baseline, not the whole of it. Felton Brushes asks for a face shield over glasses with side shields. A Birmingham eye-unit report describes a penetrating injury despite glasses to a British standard. The spark window replaces neither. Wear the glasses and the shield, and keep the guard on.
Can I put a wire wheel on the TC-BG 150 later?
Only if it matches the shaft you measured, the 150 mm guard, and a speed marking at or above 2,980 rpm. The service sheet states a 12.7 mm mount. A wheel rated for a lower speed does not belong on this machine.
What is S6 350 W if Halfords also prints 185 W?
They are two halves of one duty line. Amazon states 350 W as S6 and does not give the on-time. The service sheet states 185 W continuous and S6 350 W at 15 percent. The 350 W figure is short-time. Amazon also omits voltage; the service sheet states 220–240 V.
The brush throws wires. Is that a fault?
Shedding is how a wire brush wears. Felton treats wires leaving the brush as expected. Other-marketplace reviews on this ASIN mention a lot of wires on first use. The six UK texts do not. Wear a face shield and keep the guard down. A brush that comes apart in chunks is a different fault, and that wheel should come off.
Should I buy two stones now and a brush later?
Yes, if the bevel is this month's job. The TC-BG 150 gives you K36 and K60, and you can add a brush after you measure the 12.7 mm mount. Buy the TC-BG 150 B now if rust is why you are shopping. A brush ordered without the bore and the speed marking is a wheel you may not be able to fit.
