Cordless detail sander or a mains lead

Updated: 21 October 2026

The next detail sander is either a battery kit or a 230 V tool you can leave running. A cordless detail sander suits a ladder and short snagging. A mains mouse suits a full run of skirting when a socket is already there. This page is that choice, using the eight amazon.co.uk listings in our [delta sander comparison](/hub/sanders/delta-sander). Peter F. did not time a battery in a workshop. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

When mains is the tool that finishes the room

Choose a corded sander for a whole room of trim or any session you want to finish without a charge. The corded cluster runs from the DEKOPRO 180 W at £21.99 to the MAXXT 350 W at £137.40. The Einhell TC-DS 20 E quotes 200 W, 12,000–22,000 rpm and a 36 mm adapter at £33.95. Those watts are listing claims for a motor that stays on while the plug is in. UK mains are nominally 230 V. A household flex is expected to carry a BS 1363 plug under regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. A long lead is a trip hazard on stairs. Stroke and ports are on the buying guide.

When a battery is the tool that keeps you on the ladder

Choose cordless for snagging, a windowsill, or a ladder where the trailing lead is the risk you want gone. Dust stays in the air, and a damaged tool can still shock you. The only cordless listing here is a 20 V kit. Seven of the eight tools are mains. ITS, a UK seller, draws the same line: corded for longer sessions, cordless for shorter snagging. Runtime in minutes is not stated, so claiming one battery does a room would be guesswork. For a whole landing, take a corded tool or accept a stop mid-wall.

What the DEKOPRO 20 V kit actually includes

The DEKOPRO 20 V kit is £39.99, with 4.2 stars from 151 reviews, a 2.0 Ah battery and three attachments. Bullets mention about 13,000 OPM. Watts are not stated. Reviewers describe plaster prep and light use. A vacuum attachment is listed, and fine dust still needs a mask. That is not the extraction HSE describes for indoor wood sanding. The pack is DEKOPRO 20 V. The listing does not say it fits Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt or Einhell. The corded Einhell at £33.95 is the neighbour when a 36 mm hose matters more than the missing lead.

Weight in the hand, lead or no lead

Detail sanding is often one-handed. Item weight on amazon.co.uk can include accessories. The Einhell shows 840 g, the DOVAMAN 948 g, the Bosch PDA 180 1 kg, the Metabo 1.2 kg, the Draper and the cordless DEKOPRO 1.5 kg, the corded DEKOPRO 1.61 kg, and the MAXXT 2.24 kg. Leave the MAXXT off overhead reveals. The cordless kit is mid-pack even with the lead gone. The Einhell is the lowest figure, and it is corded. Pressure and grit are on how to use a detail sander.

Plugs, voltage lines, and the battery platform you already own

Corded listings say 220 V, 230 V or 240 V. UK mains are nominally 230 V. Open the photos for a BS 1363 plug. A Schuko-only flex is a UK buying problem. The Einhell capture says 220 V, so check the picture. An 18 V trade delta is not one of these eight ASINs, and the DEKOPRO 20 V pack does not run that platform. Buy 18 V when you already own the charger. Buy this kit for one cordless mouse at about £40.

Common questions

Will a 2.0 Ah battery finish one room of skirting?
The DEKOPRO listing does not state runtime, so there is no sourced yes. On the reviews, a 2.0 Ah pack is aimed at snagging and short prep. For a whole room of skirting, use a corded sander and keep the battery tool for corners where the lead is in the way.
Will the 20 V DEKOPRO battery fit other brands?
The listing gives no evidence that it fits Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt or Einhell. It is a DEKOPRO 20 V pack sold with this kit. If your other tools are an 18 V trade platform, this sander does not join that charger. Check the battery photo for the slide before you treat the voltage number as compatibility.
Does a corded sander need a BS 1363 plug?
For a flex intended for a UK household socket, regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 expects a BS 1363 plug. Confirm it in the listing photos. A line that only says 220 V or 240 V is not that check. If the plug is Schuko-only, choose a listing that shows a UK plug.
Is cordless safer on a ladder?
It removes the trailing lead, which is a trip hazard on stairs and ladders. Dust is still there, and a damaged tool can still shock you. The listing does not give a safety certificate we could quote. If the coating might be lead paint, the power source does not change the answer: stop and call a professional.
Can I use the cordless sander on plaster?
Reviewers of the DEKOPRO 20 V kit describe plaster prep before emulsion, which fits a short job on a 2.0 Ah pack. Fine plaster dust still needs a mask. A corded tool with a hose is the better setup when the wall is large and a socket is nearby. The 2.24 kg MAXXT is a poor match for long overhead work.
