Best cutting discs

Updated: 21 October 2026

The star lines on these amazon.co.uk cutting discs sit between 4.5 and 4.7, except for one diamond set at 1.0 from a single review. The best cutting discs in this comparison are the ones that match your guard and your metal, with a speed you can read. Prices below are the figures in our [cutting disc comparison](/hub/sanders/cutting-disc). A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. compared the twelve listings and the UK review notes on 19 October 2026, and did not cut steel. A high star line with a missing rpm or a shared review block is still a conditional pick.

Best is a job, not a badge

Three jobs cover this set. Thin metal on a 115 mm grinder means bolts, brackets and sheet. The same cut on a 125 mm grinder uses a slightly larger disc and a lower marked rpm. A 230 mm grinder, here, means one Bosch disc at 3 mm. A search for a disc that cuts everything lands on Faithfull’s multi-cut tin or the Lozlin diamond blades. Those come last so they are not borrowed as the metal answer. The top pick for a small 115 mm pack is Starrett. The best value, if you will use fifty wheels on a 115 mm guard, is the Merryland 50-pack. If the guard is 125 mm, both are the wrong diameter: see the 115 or 125 cutting disc page. The checks before a shortlist are in the cutting disc buying guide.

Thin 115 mm metal packs

Starrett’s DAC115-14X is twelve 115 × 1 × 22.23 mm discs at £5.03, 4.7 from 527, double reinforced, EN 12413, and no maximum rpm printed. One UK review says two of three thin discs shattered after kickback. Metabo’s tin is ten 115 × 1.0 mm inox discs at £4.95, with 13,200 rpm and iron, sulphur and chlorine at or below 0.1 percent. EN 12413 is not in the safety field, and the written reviews are not from the UK. The stainless steel cutting disc page keeps that limit on this tin. TechZone’s ten 115 × 0.8 mm discs are £5.99, 13,300 rpm and EN 12413, and the bore is not stated. A UK review says one disc broke in the middle. WORKPRO’s twenty 115 × 1.2 mm discs are £12.55, with 13,000 rpm in the spec and 13,300 in a bullet, and no EN 12413. MIDO’s 25-pack at £13.99 prints both 1 mm and 1.2 mm. Measure it before you rely on it.

When the grinder is 125 mm or 230 mm

A 125 mm disc is for a 125 mm guard, and marked speeds here drop to about 12,200 rpm. Merryland’s 125 mm 50-pack is £20.90, maximum 12,250 rpm, EN 12413. The 4.6 from 8,013 is shared with the 115 mm boxes, so do not read it as a 125 mm study. STONE REEF’s 25-pack is £12.99, 12,200 rpm and 80 m/s. A bullet says 115 mm and 125 mm grinders. A UK review says the discs do not fit a 4.5 inch guard. Buy it for a 125 mm guard only. Bosch at £2.41 is one 230 × 3 mm wheel, not a bargain 115 mm pack.

What not to call a best metal disc

Faithfull’s tin is ten 115 × 1 mm discs at £6.95, 4.5 from 662, EN 12413, rpm not printed. The listing adds brick, stone, ceramic and plastic, so it is a muddled steel pick. The Lozlin three-pack, Penfuzon in the brand field, is £9.79 and scores 1.0 from one UK review. Skip it for bolts. If you employ people to mount wheels, HSG17 and PUWER expect training.

Common questions

What is the best cutting disc for a 115 mm grinder?
For a small pack with EN 12413 and 527 reviews on this ASIN, start with Starrett at £5.03, 115 × 1 × 22.23 mm. Rpm is not on the listing, and one review reports shatter after kickback. If you need a printed contamination limit, Metabo at £4.95 states Fe + S + Cl ≤ 0.1%, and its written reviews are not from the UK. If you will use fifty discs, Merryland’s 115 mm 50-pack at £18.90 is the lower price per disc.
Which listing is for a 125 mm grinder?
Merryland’s 50-pack at £20.90, maximum 12,250 rpm, and STONE REEF’s 25-pack at £12.99, 12,200 rpm and 80 m/s. Both are 125 × 1.0 × 22.23 mm and both name EN 12413. Merryland’s reviews are shared with the 115 mm packs. A STONE REEF UK review says the disc does not fit a 4.5 inch guard. Buy either only when that guard is 125 mm.
Should I buy the diamond set for steel bolts?
The only UK review on the Lozlin 3-pack describes about seven minutes to cut an M10 screw. A hacksaw in that review took 38 seconds. The title also names concrete, PVC, granite and marble. For a bolt, use a bonded 1 mm metal disc in the right diameter. A diamond blade can suit tile, and this listing has one review, which is not a test of tile.
Why do three Merryland packs share one review count?
The 115 mm 50-pack, the 115 mm 25-pack and the 125 mm 50-pack all show 4.6 from 8,013, and the visible texts match. One shared review mentions 25 discs, which fits only one box. Do not add the counts, and do not read them as proof that the 125 mm disc lasts like the 115 mm disc.
Is the Bosch disc a bargain 115 mm wheel?
It is a 230 × 3 mm depressed-centre cutting disc at £2.41, with oSa in the title and 4.6 from 1,253 reviews. Rpm is not printed. UK reviews disagree about how long one disc lasts. The title says a cutting disc for a large grinder. It is not a thin 115 mm slit sold at a discount.
