Bosch cordless or corded orbital sander

Updated: 21 October 2026

You already own a Bosch drill, or you do not, and the sander page says 18 V as if that were one battery. A Bosch cordless or corded orbital sander decision fails when a green pack is planned for a blue tool, or when a bare-tool price is compared with a PEX that plugs in. This page is that fork. Pad size and grit stay on the other guides. Prices are amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 19 October 2026. Peter F. used the eight kept listings and Bosch’s own platform notes. This is not a lab test, and a qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The models are listed on the [Bosch orbital sander](/hub/sanders/bosch-orbital-sander) comparison.

Two 18 V systems

POWER FOR ALL is the green DIY system. Professional 18 V, including AMPShare, is the blue system. The alliance says they will not be unified. A green drill pack does not run a GEX, and a ProCORE pack does not run an EasyOrbit. The green tools here are the EasyOrbit 18V-10 at £69.00 and the UniversalOrbit 18V-20 at £83.59, sold without a battery, with a recommendation of at least 2.0 Ah. Some EasyOrbit reviews describe a pack in the box, which conflicts with the title. The blue tools are the GEX 18V-125, solo at £109.98 or with L-BOXX at £145.00, and the GSS 18V-13 at £227.91. The GEX manual recommends a ProCORE18V of at least 4.0 Ah. If you own neither colour, use a cable.

When the cable is the better buy

The corded tools are the PEX 220 A at £48.49, the PEX 400 AE at £105.00, and the GEX 34-150 at £200.00. Choose a cable when the work stays next to one socket, or when you have no matching battery. The PEX 220 A is 125 mm, 220 W in the bullets, 1.29 kg, with no speed dial. The PEX 400 AE title says 350 W and the DIY page says 370 W. The GEX 34-150 is a poor cable-only buy because reviews dispute the handle and the dust box. A Schuko charger with no adaptor is a UK buying problem. Bosch’s typical GEX line is about 30 to 45 minutes on a ProCORE18V 4.0 Ah pack.

What a bare price leaves out

Every cordless row excludes the battery and the charger. Budget a ProCORE 4.0 Ah if you want the pack Bosch recommends for the GEX, or at least 2.0 Ah on the green side. A second pack stops the tool dying while the first cools. L-BOXX 136 is on GEX ASIN B093H12667 at £145.00, not on the solo at £109.98. Most cordless scopes include one sheet. The PEX 220 A includes three. A £69.00 bare tool is not cheaper than £48.49 corded until the pack and the charger are in the total. Dust setup is on Bosch sander dust extraction.

Which way to go

Buy cordless when the pack you already own matches the platform, and buy corded when it does not or the session stays in one place. With no Bosch packs, that is the PEX 220 A, or the PEX 400 AE when the dial is worth about £56. This page does not invent a ProCORE shelf price. Look it up on amazon.co.uk and add it. A blue battery does not turn a GSS into a round door sander. Pad and orbit are the buying guide.

Common questions

Should I buy cordless if I only own green Bosch batteries?
Yes, if you buy an EasyOrbit or a UniversalOrbit, which are the POWER FOR ALL tools in this set. Do not buy a GEX or a GSS for those packs. The systems do not fit each other. You would be paying a bare-tool price and then a second battery platform.
Will a Professional 18 V pack run an EasyOrbit?
No. Professional packs belong on the GEX 18V-125 and the GSS 18V-13. The EasyOrbit is a green POWER FOR ALL tool. A blue pack on the bench does not change that. One GSS review also shows that even inside the blue range, not every 18 V pack the owner tried would run the tool.
Is the GEX 18V-125 cheaper than the PEX 400 AE once the battery is included?
The bare GEX solo is £109.98 and the PEX 400 AE is £105.00, so they look close until the pack and charger are added to the GEX. This comparison does not put a price on a ProCORE 4.0 Ah pack, because that price moves. Add the live amazon.co.uk pack price. If you already own the pack, the GEX can be the lower extra spend. If you do not, the corded PEX is the complete tool at £105.00.
Does the sander itself need a UK plug?
A cordless body does not plug into the wall. The charger does, and that charger needs a BS 1363 plug for a UK socket. A corded PEX or GEX 34-150 does need a mains lead. Confirm the plug and the rating plate. The Amazon voltage field, 220 V or 240 V, is not the plug.
Which listing includes the L-BOXX?
GEX 18V-125 ASIN B093H12667 includes L-BOXX 136, at £145.00, still without a battery. The solo ASIN B093TCNYR6 does not. The GSS 18V-13 includes an L-BOXX. The green Orbit tools and the PEX 220 A are carton listings.
What charger do I need?
The charger for the platform you already own. Green POWER FOR ALL for the EasyOrbit and UniversalOrbit. Professional 18 V for the GEX and the GSS. A charger from the other colour does not solve a bare tool. If you own no charger, add one with a UK plug to the bare-tool price before you decide the cordless option is cheaper.
