Glue joint router bit buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You already own the router. On amazon.co.uk the phrase glue joint router bit covers two tools: an edge bit that nests long edges into a panel, and a finger bit that cuts a row for a box corner. This glue joint router bit buying guide keeps that order. Choose the profile, then the shank that matches the collet you have, then the machine the listing names. Prices from £13.99 to £93.36 on 15 October 2026 stay on the [glue joint router bit comparison](/hub/routers/glue-joint-router-bit). Products Compared did not cut timber with these bits. Two cutters share the name

An edge glue-joint bit locks the long edges of boards so the faces can stay flush while you clamp. A finger bit cuts a repeating row so two ends meet at a corner. In this set the edge listings are the Yonico 15136q at £19.99 and the Freud 99-031 at £93.36. Yonico’s bullet says edge-to-edge joints, a table-mount router, a 1/4 inch shank, and two flutes. How the shapes differ in the workshop is on the finger joint bit versus edge glue joint bit page.

Shank, then machine

A 1/4 inch shank is 6.35 mm. An 8 mm shank is 1.65 mm larger. A 1/2 inch shank is 12.7 mm. Those three do not interchange, and 12 mm is 0.7 mm under 1/2 inch. Yonico, Mesee, and Vearter state 1/4 inch. Cocoarm and Newdeli state 1/2 inch. OVAQUIXI is the only listing that states 8 mm. Freud’s amazon.co.uk extract does not state a shank, so you measure the parcel or you leave the bit. The machine line is separate from the shank. Yonico says table-mount. Mesee says CNC and other table-mounted routers. A bearing is not a fence for thin stock.

What the listing must state

Mesee prints a window from 7/16 inch to 1-1/4 inch and one flute. Yonico and Freud do not print a stock-thickness band on the UK extracts, so you cannot read a millimetre limit off those pages. Watch the clashes before you treat a bullet as a size. Newdeli’s bullet says 1-3/8 inch and the spec table says 1.25 inches. Vearter prints 11 mm to 35 mm and also prints 1-1/4 inch, which is not 35 mm. None of the eight cites BS EN 847-1:2017. If the shank arrives bent, or the tips are loose, stop and use the seller. Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 9 is the contract route, not a second pass.

Price is not a strength score

Mesee and Vearter share the £13.99 shelf price and they are both 1/4 inch finger bits. Mesee is 4.5 from 54 with UK-labelled texts. Vearter is 3.2 from 10 with none from the UK. Yonico at £19.99 is the edge bit with a stated 1/4 inch shank. Freud at £93.36 is an edge bit whose UK listing still omits the shank. Cocoarm and OVAQUIXI have no star line, so you are buying a description.

Common questions

Is a glue joint bit the same as a finger joint bit?
Not in this set. Yonico and Freud nest long edges into a panel. Mesee, Vearter, Newdeli, OVAQUIXI, Cocoarm, and the Fafeicy title cut a row for a corner. Fafeicy’s spec table also says Dovetail Cut, so that listing does not agree with its own title. Buying the wrong profile will not be fixed by a height tweak on the router.
Do I choose the profile or the shank first?
Choose the profile for the joint, then keep only the bits whose shank matches the collet you have. A 1/2 inch finger bit does not fit an 8 mm collet, and an edge bit does not become a corner cutter because the shank happens to fit. Freud stays out of the shank filter until you measure it.
Will a 1/4 inch bit fit an 8 mm collet?
No. 1/4 inch is 6.35 mm and 8 mm is 1.65 mm larger. They are separate collets. The only 8 mm bit in these eight extracts is OVAQUIXI. Yonico, Mesee, and Vearter stay with a 1/4 inch collet. A sleeve is not the way to close that gap.
Which of these eight is the edge bit for panels?
Yonico 15136q states an edge-to-edge glue joint, a 1/4 inch shank, and a table-mount router, at £19.99. Freud 99-031 is the other edge listing, at £93.36, with no shank on the amazon.co.uk extract. The other six are finger titles, with Fafeicy’s spec line in dispute. Panel work does not start in the finger group.
Why does the Freud listing not name a shank?
The title, the bullets, and the spec table in the UK extract do not state 1/4 inch, 8 mm, or 1/2 inch. Freud’s product page lists a 1/2 inch shank and two cutters, while the UK spec table says one flute and a material field of Blend. Do not write 1/2 inch into the UK row until you have measured the bit in the box.
What if the title says finger joint and the spec says dovetail?
That is Fafeicy at £27.65. The title says finger joint and 1/2 inch. The spec cut type says Dovetail Cut, and the spec cutting diameter is 0.5 inches, the same figure as the stated shank. One UK text says it works, another says the cutters loosened, and other texts say the shank was 12 mm. If you need one profile, leave it.
