Metabo jigsaw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with a Metabo jigsaw in the basket and a cheaper compatible-with-Makita kit sitting in the same search. This Metabo jigsaw buying guide is the order of checks before a star score: brand and order number, then depth and handle, then whether the price includes a battery. The [Metabo jigsaw comparison](/hub/power-saws/metabo-jigsaw) keeps seven genuine listings from an October 2026 pull, priced from £58.97 to £377.29. Peter F. compared those amazon.co.uk rows with Metabo's published figures. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the brand and the order number

A genuine Metabo row names Metabo as the brand and an order number you can match, such as 601047850 for the ST 18 L 90 or 601502840 for the STA 18 LTX 150 BL. Five of twelve files were other brands or compatible copies at about £59 to £71, including ONEVAN, KIESBOHR, Bosch, WORX, and unbranded kits. A shared search is not a shared warranty. If the title leans on Makita compatibility and the brand is not Metabo, it is a different tool. A 750 RPM row is not Metabo's stroke table. The best Metabo jigsaw page is the conditional pick once the order number matches.

Match the handle and the depth to the timber

Handle and depth are not the same decision. The ST 18 L 90 (601047850) is the body grip: 90 mm in wood, a 22 mm stroke, 750–3000 strokes per minute, and four pendulum levels on the datasheet. The STB 18 L 90 (601048850) is the top handle in that 90 mm class, at £58.97 against £92.00. A curve in 18 mm ply stays in that band, so the handle is the difference. The body grip versus top handle page stays on that pair. For thicker timber, the STA 18 LTX 150 BL states 150 mm in wood and a 26 mm stroke. The 130 mm and 140 mm cards have blank cells. Leave the pendulum off for metal and for a laminate face. The how to use a Metabo jigsaw page is that setting.

Count the box, then the battery or the plug

Cordless prices here are bare-tool prices. None of the kept ST, STB, or STA titles include a battery or a charger. You need a Metabo 18 V Li-Power or LiHD pack, or a CAS partner pack, plus a BS 1363 charger. CAS is the Cordless Alliance System. A Makita-compatible jigsaw from the same search is not that system. The STA 150 BL adds a metaBOX 145 L at £149.99. The STB 130 BL has no case at £168.29. The STEB 65 Quick at £128.55 is 230 V and 400 W with a blade assortment, so the socket replaces the pack, and its wood depth is not stated. The STEB 140 Plus at £377.29 is 750 W with a MetaLoc and no reviews. Great Britain accepts UKCA or CE on machinery under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. Metabo UK lists a three-year warranty on many cordless tools when you register them.

Decide from the packs you already own

Own Metabo or CAS packs and stay inside 90 mm, and the choice is the handle. Thicker stock points at the STA 150 BL. No packs, and a socket nearby, points at the STEB 65 kit rather than a bare saw plus a new battery. The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 set action values at 80 and 85 dB(A). The ST 18 L 90 datasheet declares 90 dB(A). HSE's typical jigsaw band is about 9–17 m/s², and Metabo's 7.6 m/s² in wood and 8.7 m/s² in metal apply only when the cut matches the test. Call a joiner for a fitted worktop, a structural cut, or work near services.

Common questions

Is this listing a real Metabo or a compatible kit?
Match the brand row to Metabo and the order number to a model such as 601047850 or 601048850. Titles that lead with Makita compatibility, or brand rows for ONEVAN, KIESBOHR, WORX, Bosch, or an unbranded kit, were removed from this comparison. Those listings clustered around £59 to £71 in the October 2026 pull and do not inherit Metabo's datasheet or warranty.
Do I already need Metabo 18 V batteries?
Yes for every cordless row kept here. The amazon.co.uk prices are bare units without a pack or a charger. A Metabo Li-Power or LiHD pack, or a CAS 18 V partner pack, plus a UK three-pin charger, has to be in the budget. The STEB 65 and STEB 140 Plus are 230 V corded saws, so they do not use that platform.
Is 90 mm depth enough for my timber?
It is enough when the piece is inside the 90 mm wood class stated for the ST 18 L 90 and echoed on the STB 18 L 90 listing. Stair strings, thick worktops, and stacked sheet often need the 130 mm or 150 mm class instead. Measure the actual timber, including any bevel, before you treat a compact saw as the deeper one.
Why does amazon show 750 RPM?
Several Metabo cards in this capture print RPM, wattage, or tooth-count rows that disagree with the manufacturer's stroke-per-minute tables. The ST 18 L 90 datasheet states 750–3000 strokes per minute, not 180 W and not a 750 RPM motor speed. Ignore the conflicting amazon row and use the datasheet for depth and stroke.
Can I use pendulum on metal?
Leave the pendulum off for metal and for a visible laminate face. The four levels on the ST 18 L 90 are there to speed a cut in timber. An aggressive orbit on thin steel or on a finished chipboard face tears the edge and can overheat the blade, even when the depth class was the right one.
When is a corded STEB cheaper than going cordless?
When you do not already own an 18 V Metabo or CAS pack. The STB 18 L 90 at £58.97 is only the saw. The STEB 65 Quick at £128.55 includes mains power and a blade assortment, with no pack to buy. Compare those totals, not the bare headline, and remember the STEB 65 row does not state a wood depth.
