Makita mitre saw for skirting

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are fitting skirting along a UK wall, the face of the board is in your hand, and the mitre has to close on an internal corner. A Makita mitre saw skirting cut only works if that face is inside the rated width. The brand name does not add millimetres. The [Makita mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-mitre-saw) has four amazon.co.uk listings from 19 October 2026: the LS0815FLN/1 at £328.45, the LS0714N/1 at £356.95, the DLS600Z bare at £356.46, and the LH1040/2 at £409.00. Peter F. matched those pages to Makita UK capacities. We did not cut your room. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure the face, then read height by width

Lay the skirting flat against an imaginary fence and measure the face that has to pass under the blade, not the length of the wall. Capacity is published as height by width. Height is the thickness against the fence. Width is the face across the table. A thin board can still be too wide. LS0815FLN/1 bullets say 65 × 305 mm at 90°. LS0714N/1 bullets say 52 × 300 mm at 90° and 52 × 212 mm at 45°. Makita UK rates the DLS600Z at 46 × 92 mm at 90° and 46 × 65 mm at 45°. LH1040 mitre mode is about 69 × 130 mm at 90° and 69 × 85 mm at 45°. A face near 100 mm is past the DLS600Z and inside the LH1040. A face near 200 mm leaves only the sliders. Write the number on the board before you buy. The buying guide explains the voltage fork beside this measurement.

Sliders for a wide face

The LS0815FLN/1 is the top pick for skirting that approaches 300 mm across, if you can run 110 V through a transformer. It is a 216 mm slide compound at £328.45. The width bullet is the reason to choose it, not the thin 5.0 sample. The LS0714N/1 is the other slider, at £356.95 and also 110 V. One review at 5.0 should not swing you toward it. If the face fits both, the extra £28.50 does not buy a wider cut.

Small faces and the flip-over

The DLS600Z is for small skirting and architrave. The rated width is 92 mm. A review note near 100 mm is an adjustment, not published capacity. There is no slide, and batteries are not in the £356.46 price. If the face is 120 mm or more, leave it on the shelf. The LH1040/2 can mitre up to about 130 mm at 90° on a 240 V title, then it stops being a skirting saw. Table mode rips to about 40 mm deep. It is the best value listing when you also need that rip, and the wrong listing when the brief is only wide skirting. The best Makita mitre saw page puts these tools against other jobs if skirting is only half the week.

Internal corners, the 100 mm comment, and what not to force

An internal corner is two 45° cuts that have to meet. The width that matters is the width at 45°, not the 90° number. On the LS0714 that is 212 mm, not 300 mm. On the DLS600Z it is 65 mm, not 92 mm. On the LH1040 it is about 85 mm, not 130 mm. Cut the longer piece first, then the mating piece. A laser will not rescue a board wider than the head can pass. Support the length so the offcut does not break the nose of the mitre. A bag is not local exhaust. HSE hardwood dust is limited to 3 mg/m³ where those duties apply. The setup sequence is on the how to use page. If the boards might contain asbestos, or the saw is 110 V and you have no transformer, do not start the corner.

Common questions

Will the DLS600Z cut normal skirting?
Only if the face fits 46 × 92 mm at 90°, or 46 × 65 mm at 45°, on the Makita UK rating. A face near 100 mm shows up in UK reviews as an adjustment, not as the specification. Wider boards belong on the LS0815FLN/1 or the LS0714N/1. The cordless saw is still the light one, at about 6 kg, when the board is genuinely small.
Which slider for a face near 300 mm?
The LS0815FLN/1 bullets say 305 mm width at 90°. The LS0714N/1 bullets say 300 mm. Both are 110 V. In this capture the LS0815 is £328.45 and the LS0714 is £356.95, so the wider claim is also the lower shelf price. At 45° the LS0714 figure drops to 212 mm. Measure the corner cut, not only the square end.
Can the LH1040 mitre skirting and rip timber the same day?
It can mitre a face inside about 130 mm and rip stock inside about 40 mm depth. That is the flip-over’s point, on a 240 V title. It cannot stand in for a 300 mm slider. Use the push stick in table mode, and follow the manual when you change mode. The 24 V row on amazon.co.uk is not the supply.
Do I need a transformer to cut skirting?
Yes for the two sliders, unless you are already on 110 V site power. No for the LH1040/2 if you confirm 240 V and a BS 1363 plug. The DLS600Z needs an LXT pack and a charger, which this bare listing does not include. A transformer or a battery can cost more than the gap between the shelf prices.
What if 45° makes the board too wide?
Move to a saw whose 45° width covers the face, or change the method with someone who cuts that detail for a living. Do not quote the 90° number for a corner. The LS0714, the DLS600Z and the LH1040 all lose width at 45°. The loss is in the published figures above.
