Makita cordless or corded mitre saw

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are comparing a bare 18 V body with two 110 V sliders and a 240 V flip-over, and the amazon.co.uk prices sit within about £80 of each other. A Makita cordless or corded mitre saw decision is about what you must add before the blade turns, and about whether the board fits the cordless head. The [Makita mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-mitre-saw) lists the four captured prices from 19 October 2026. Peter F. used those listings and Makita UK pages. We did not invent a transformer or pack price, because those extras were not on the listings. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the shelf price leaves out

The DLS600Z title says batteries and the charger are not included. £356.46 is the bare brushless body, about 6 kg, with a 165 mm blade. If you already run 18 V LXT, that price can be the whole purchase. If this would be your first pack, you still have to buy a battery and a charger before a comparison with a corded saw is honest. This page does not invent a pack price. The LS0815FLN/1 and the LS0714N/1 are complete as saws and 110 V, so at home you add a transformer. This capture does not include that price. The LH1040/2 title says 240 V, at £409.00. Ignore the row that prints 24, and confirm a BS 1363 plug. That higher shelf price can be the lower complete price when the other three need an extra box. Makita UK rates the DLS600Z at 46 × 92 mm. The LS0815 bullets say 65 × 305 mm. The buying guide walks the forks.

When the cordless saw is the one to buy

Buy the DLS600Z when three things are true together. The face fits 92 mm at 90°, or 65 mm at 45°. You already own LXT packs and a charger. You need to carry the saw between rooms, where a 110 V lead and a transformer are a nuisance. UK reviews praise that weight for second fix, and 4.7 from 79 is the largest sample of the four. There is no slide. A face near 100 mm is still outside the published 92 mm. Do not buy it to avoid 110 V on a wide board. Adding packs to £356.46 can pass the LS0815’s £328.45 price without gaining the 305 mm cut.

When the corded saw is the better spend

Choose the LS0815FLN/1 when the board is wide and 110 V is already solved. It is the top pick for a cross-cut the bullets put at 305 mm, at the lowest shelf price. You accept a 5° right-hand bevel, nine reviews, and a cable. The LS0714N/1 at £356.95 is the same 110 V problem, so it does not win on cost. Choose the LH1040/2 when you want 240 V and you will both mitre and rip. It is the best value listing for that shed job, at £409.00. It loses to the DLS600Z when the saw has to be light, and it loses to the sliders when the face is near 200 mm. The best Makita mitre saw page names that condition next to the other jobs. Faces and corners are on the skirting page.

What the reviews help with, and what they do not

If you already own LXT packs and the board fits 92 mm, buy the DLS600Z. If the board is near 300 mm and you can feed 110 V, buy the LS0815FLN/1. If you have neither packs nor a transformer and the work includes short rips, buy the LH1040/2 and keep wide skirting off it. Dust and noise duties do not change because the saw is cordless. A bag is still not local exhaust. HSE wood-dust limits remain 5 mg/m³ for softwood and 3 mg/m³ for hardwood at work. The lighter saw does not remove hearing protection from a long session.

Common questions

Is the DLS600Z cheaper than the sliders?
Not on the evidence in this capture. The bare body is £356.46. The LS0815FLN/1 is £328.45 and still needs 110 V. The LS0714N/1 is £356.95 and also needs 110 V. Add a battery and charger, or add a transformer, before you call a winner. If the packs are already yours, the DLS600Z’s extra cost can be zero. If they are not, the cordless price is incomplete.
Does cordless mean it will cut wider?
No. The DLS600Z is the narrow saw, at 46 × 92 mm on Makita UK. The corded sliders quote about 300 mm of width. Cordless here means 18 V and about 6 kg. It does not mean a sliding head. Wide skirting stays on the LS0815FLN/1 or the LS0714N/1.
Can I run the corded saws from a house socket?
The LH1040/2 title says 240 V, so that is the one you plan for a normal UK socket, after you confirm a BS 1363 plug and ignore the 24 V row. The LS0815FLN/1 and the LS0714N/1 are 110 V and need a transformer. Plugging them straight into 230 V is a fault, not a setup step.
When is the flip-over the corded choice instead of a slider?
When you need table rips up to about 40 mm deep as well as mitres up to about 130 mm wide, and you do not want 110 V or a new battery system. You pay £409.00. You do not get a 300 mm cross-cut. The push stick in the box is for the table mode.
Which way should a first-time buyer go?
If the work is wide cross-cuts and you have no transformer and no LXT packs, neither bare cordless nor a 110 V slider is a complete price. Look at the LH1040/2 only if 130 mm and a 40 mm rip cover the work. If the work is wide skirting, budget a transformer and the LS0815FLN/1 rather than hoping the DLS600Z will stretch.
