Bosch reciprocating saw for pruning

Updated: 21 October 2026

Amazon has filed a Bosch garden saw in the same Reciprocating Saws aisle as a demolition body. A Bosch reciprocating saw for pruning is either the green Keo, inside a stated diameter, or a full recip on wood you can clamp at ground level. It is not a licence to cut at height, and it is not a chainsaw. The wider set is on the [Bosch reciprocating saw](/hub/power-saws/bosch-reciprocating-saw) comparison. Listings and the Bosch DIY Keo page were read on 20 October 2026. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

The Keo is a garden saw in a recip category

The Keo, ASIN B097C41C2S, is the pruning tool in this set. It is a green 18 V saw with a reciprocating blade and a detachable A-grip, listed at £69.98 and 1.1 kg. The title excludes the battery and charger. Bosch DIY puts it on Power for All and asks for a pack of at least 2.0 Ah. If you own no green packs, £69.98 is the saw without the means to run it. The listing prints model 0600861A01 and part number 06008C1H01. They are not the same. The star line is 4.4 from 398 reviews. UK texts praise one-handed pruning and mention a slow soft start, kickback, and vibration. One UK buyer had a failure inside a month. That is a single report, not a rate. The older 10.8 V Keo is a different tool.

60 mm, 80 mm, and the blade you fit

Bosch DIY rates the Keo at 60 mm with the A-grip and 80 mm without it, and it lists a 150 mm blade. The amazon.co.uk highlight says a cutting diameter of 80 mm, and the blade-length field is also 80 mm. Those cells are not the 150 mm blade. With the grip on, the branch this page stands behind is 60 mm. Without the grip, it is 80 mm. UK reviews talk about branches around 50–70 mm. One user went above 80 mm. That single review is not a new rating. The A-grip holds the branch, which is why capacity drops to 60 mm. Take it off and you control the stem from a stable stance, not from a ladder. Let the slow start reach speed before the teeth meet bark. One UK review said the included Swiss wood blade was wrong for live leylandii. If green fibres load the blade, change it with the battery off. A stem beyond 80 mm, or any stem you cannot stand beside, is no longer this saw’s job.

When a full Bosch recip is the branch tool

Use a full recip when the wood is on the ground, or clamped there, and it is too thick for the Keo. The PSA 700 E is the body UK reviewers use on logs, firewood and branches: corded, £74.99, 230 V and 710 W, listed at 3 kg. They call it the gap between a bow saw and a chainsaw, and they say it needs two hands. There is no two-button lock-off, and the lead is short. A branch on the lawn next to a socket fits. Carrying the saw up to a branch does not make the cut safe. The GSA 18V-28 has a UK review of a 300 mm trunk with a 5.5 Ah pack. It is 3.2 kg before the battery and still two-handed. Buy it for ground-level timber you clamp, and only if the blue packs are yours. Which lead or pack you own is on the corded vs cordless Bosch reciprocating saw page. Shoe and blade seating are on how to use a Bosch reciprocating saw.

Chainsaw rules and the ladder

HSE’s certificate of competence is for chainsaw work on or in a tree. A reciprocating saw is not named on that page. That absence is not permission to prune at height. PUWER still expects competence for the equipment you use at work. Ladder use in Keo reviews is a fall risk those reviewers took, not a method this page describes. If the branch is in the crown, over a path, or anywhere you cannot stand on the ground with the wood clamped, hire a competent person. Felling is outside the Keo’s 80 mm claim. Inside 60 mm with the A-grip, or 80 mm without it, from a stable stance, and with a Power for All pack already owned, the bare Keo is the pruning saw. A thicker branch you can clamp on the ground is the PSA 700 E, socket required. The checks that stop you buying the Keo as a demolition saw are on the Bosch reciprocating saw buying guide.

Common questions

How thick a branch is the Keo rated for?
Bosch DIY states 60 mm with the A-grip and 80 mm without it, with a 150 mm blade. The amazon.co.uk highlight says an 80 mm cutting diameter, and the blade-length field is also 80 mm. Do not merge the 80 mm cell with the 150 mm blade. UK reviews mostly describe about 50–70 mm. One review above 80 mm does not raise the rating.
When is the PSA 700 E the better pruning tool?
When the wood is too thick for the Keo and you can clamp it at ground level next to a socket. UK reviews use the PSA on logs and branches, with two hands, at £74.99, 230 V and 710 W. It is heavy, listed at 3 kg, the lead is short, and there is no lock-off. It is not a one-handed replacement for the Keo up a tree.
Does a recip saw need a chainsaw ticket?
HSE’s certificate of competence is for chainsaw work on or in a tree. A reciprocating saw is not that machine, and the chainsaw page does not name one. That absence is not permission to prune at height. At work, you still need to be competent with the tool you are using. Felling and crown work belong to a competent person with the right saw.
Can you use it one-handed on a ladder?
The Keo’s A-grip is designed for one hand on a branch you can reach from a stable stance, inside 60 mm. Reviews that describe ladder use are describing a fall risk. This page does not give a ladder method. A full recip needs two hands and is worse, not better, as soon as your feet leave the ground. Height cuts are a hire.
Does the amazon.co.uk Keo include a battery?
No. ASIN B097C41C2S is £69.98 and the title excludes the battery and charger. The listing says one lithium-ion battery is required. Bosch DIY asks for a Power for All pack of at least 2.0 Ah. A different retail kit that includes a battery is a different product. Do not copy its contents or its runtime onto this page.
When do you stop and hire someone?
Stop when the branch is above you, when the tree is being felled, or when you cannot clamp the wood from the ground. The Keo claim ends at 80 mm without the A-grip, and at 60 mm with it. A full recip can cut a larger piece on the ground and still throws a rough cut with two hands. Hidden services, work at height and felling are the professional jobs, not a heavier blade.
