Trellis for potted plants

Updated: October 2026

You have a pothos, an ivy, or a clematis in a container, and the search has offered a garden trellis that is 180 cm long. That panel is a fence lattice. A pot needs a short support you can push into compost, tall enough for the stems you have, and stable once you let go. The Products Compared editorial team looked at the amazon.co.uk extracts in the [garden trellis comparison](/hub/plant-accessories/trellis). One product in that set is made for pots. The rest are not. There was no glasshouse trial. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

A fence trellis will not fit the pot

The wooden lattices here are about 180 cm by 30 cm once opened. The Gardman 07250 is one riveted panel at 343 g and about £7.14. That length in a houseplant pot dwarfs the plant and has no feet for compost. The Kanta packs, the LATERN and the Toyosport are the same shape. The garden trellis buying guide is where you choose that shape on purpose. The pot product is the LYAZKMY six-pack, at about £12.99. Six green plastic pieces are each stated at 18.2 by 35.8 cm, with a roll of ties. You push the spikes into the compost. Across 98 reviews it sits at 4.2. English-language reviews use it for pothos, ivy and monstera.

Stack it, then stop

Each piece is about 18 cm by 36 cm. You gain height by stacking the slots, not by opening one piece to 180 cm. One review says the stack is only stable two high. Another says three tiers held a potted rose. A honeysuckle review says it fell apart above three tiers. Two high is the stop for a trailing houseplant. The roll of ties is included, which the fence packs omit. There is no load figure. Do not copy the 10 kg seller claims from the LATERN or the Toyosport onto this plastic. The listing says indoor and outdoor. Reviews are more confident indoors, and the extract has no frost test.

A clematis in a pot needs a deep container

The Royal Horticultural Society says smaller clematis can live in a pot at least 45 cm deep and 45 cm wide, on a small trellis or an obelisk, with the pot about 30 cm off a wall. That is a patio tub, not a pothos cachepot. The plastic six-pack can be that small trellis only while the plant is young and the stack stays at two tiers. Tie with twine rather than wire. The method is on how to attach trellis to a fence, which assumes a fence: in a pot you skip the battens and you still skip the wire. Bloom Siren sells a Grown By Marcus modular houseplant stake, with an extension, at £8. It is not in this comparison, so it does not join the score table.

Skip the tent net and the freestanding screen

The AC Infinity AC-ETB is about £12.99 and 60 by 120 cm of elastic net, with hooks, and 4.6 from 2,980 reviews. It is a grow-tent canopy. It will not push into compost, and that star line is not a pot-trellis score. Nisorpa is about 70 cm high and tonchean about 80 cm, both about £59.99, both on feet. UK reviews say they blow over unless weighted. Neither is a stake for a small pot. The best garden trellis page names the Gardman for a light climber on a fence. Use the LYAZKMY when the plant is in compost and you stop at about two tiers.

Common questions

Can I put a 1.8 m trellis in a houseplant pot?
No. The fence lattices here, including the Gardman 07250, are about 180 cm by 30 cm. The plastic pieces are 18.2 by 35.8 cm. A 1.8 m lath will not sit usefully in a pothos pot.
How big is each piece of the plastic six-pack?
Each LYAZKMY piece is stated at 18.2 by 35.8 cm. The pack holds six, plus a roll of ties, and weighs 440 g. The extract price is about £12.99. You stack the pieces. You do not stretch one of them to 180 cm.
How many can I stack before it wobbles?
Treat two tiers as the stable height. One review says the stack is only reliable two high. Another says three tiers held a potted rose, and a honeysuckle review says it fell apart above three. There is no printed load.
Is plastic all right outdoors?
The listing says indoor and outdoor. The reviews are clearer about pothos, ivy and monstera indoors. Nothing in the extract is a frost test, so do not treat the plastic as frost-proof.
What pot does a clematis need?
The RHS says a pot at least 45 cm deep and 45 cm wide for smaller clematis, with a small trellis or an obelisk, kept about 30 cm off a wall. This plastic stack can hold a young plant at about two tiers. It is not that tub.
Is a grow-tent net a pot trellis?
No. The AC Infinity AC-ETB is a 60 by 120 cm elastic net with hooks, for a grow tent, at about £12.99. Its 4.6 from 2,980 reviews is a netting score. It does not push into compost. The pot trellis in this set is the plastic six-pack.
What if I want metal in the pot instead?
Bloom Siren lists a Grown By Marcus hex trellis at £8, with an extension, for pothos, monstera, philodendron and syngonium. It is not in this comparison, so it is not scored here.
