Metal garden trellis buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A clematis on a fence, a sweet pea in a pot, and a rose that has bent a cane are not the same job. A metal garden trellis buying guide starts with where the frame sits, because a soil spike and a rawl plug are different fixings. This page is that order for the eleven listings in our [metal garden trellis comparison](/hub/plant-accessories/trellis-metal), with prices from 16 October 2026. The top pick for a wall is Flexigro. The best value for a short pot is the LYAZKMY moon 4-pack. We did not run a laboratory load test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with where it has to sit

The first split is the surface, not the photograph. A wall wants screws and plugs. A pot wants a short spike in compost. A border can take a freestanding cage if the legs go into soil. In this set, only Flexigro at about £24 puts screws, rawl plugs, and six T-clips in the bullet, claimed at about 15 mm off the wall. The RHS puts a wall support about 5 cm off the masonry. OUUTMEE at about £32.99 does not list brackets. A UK review says there are none, and the spikes are about 20 cm. That is a soil fixing. WELDUN and the LYAZKMY moon frames push into compost. The Ram obelisk claims legs about 40 cm into the ground. If the plant is a rose, use the metal trellis for climbing roses page next, because a rose does not cling.

Height against the plant

Match the stated height to the plant you have, not to the tallest title. A 37 cm moon frame does not become a rambler support because you stacked two of them. One moon unit is about 37 cm and two stacked reach about 48.5 cm. WELDUN’s size line is 75 cm, and UK reviews call that too short for bigger plants. Those are pot heights. OUUTMEE’s title says 180 by 50 cm. unho is 50 by 182 cm. The ARIFARO packs state about 95 cm or 147 cm, and the shorter one is only 20 cm wide. The Ram title says 2 m, the dimensions line says 190 cm, and one UK review measured about 185 cm. Use the shortest figure you can verify.

Finish words are not upgrades

Read the finish field as printed. Painted, powder coated, PVC coated, unfinished, and galvanised steel are different words. A bullet that says rust-proof does not promote the field. Rot and rust sit together on the metal trellis vs wooden trellis page. Ram’s field says painted. WELDUN’s field says unfinished, against a bullet that says weather-resistant. Flexigro is PVC coated. The moon pack, the circle pack, Cormunalis, both ARIFARO heights, and unho are powder coated. OUUTMEE’s field says galvanised steel, and it does not say hot-dip. If the field says painted or unfinished, that is the claim you can hold.

Read the pack and the review file

Flexigro’s title says two panels of 1 m by 0.5 m. The items field says 1. The sharper conflict is the ARIFARO pair. The pack at about £19.99 and the pack at about £54.99 share one main image, one 4.5-from-429 line, and the same review texts. That line cannot say 429 people bought the 147 cm height. Separate them by the spec: about 95 cm and 1.61 kg against a stated 147 cm and 3.96 kg, with no wall plugs on either. Fitting steps are on how to install a metal garden trellis.

Common questions

Should I choose a pot stake, a wall mesh, a tall panel, or an obelisk first?
Choose the seat first. A wall mesh is Flexigro if you want plugs in the bullet. A pot wants WELDUN at 75 cm or the moon frames at about 37 cm. A tall panel such as OUUTMEE or unho is a soil spike unless you add your own brackets. The Ram cage needs bolts, according to UK reviews. The photograph does not tell you which of those you have opened.
What height is enough for sweet peas, and what is not enough for a rambler?
Sweet peas often suit a 75 cm to 82 cm stake, the WELDUN and Cormunalis band, though WELDUN reviews say that height is already short for bigger plants. A rambler needs room to fan canes. A moon frame at about 37 cm, or about 48.5 cm if two are stacked, does not provide it. The Ram title says 2 m, but one UK review measured about 185 cm, and the tube is described as thin.
Does powder coat mean the same as galvanised or PVC-coated?
No. Powder coat is a colour film baked onto the metal. Galvanised steel, on the OUUTMEE field, is a different word, and this listing does not say hot-dip. PVC coated is what Flexigro’s finish field says. Painted, on the Ram, is a thinner claim again. A bullet that says rust-proof does not change the field.
Which listings in this set actually include wall plugs?
Only Flexigro’s bullet lists screws, rawl plugs, and six T-clips per panel, with a stated standoff of about 15 mm. OUUTMEE, unho, and both ARIFARO packs do not list wall plugs. A UK review of the OUUTMEE says there are no screw brackets. If the job is a masonry wall, that missing line is the reason to leave the spike panels.
Why do the bullets and the specification table disagree?
Several listings read as two documents. Ram’s assembly field says no, and UK reviews describe nuts and bolts. WELDUN’s finish field says unfinished, and a bullet says weather-resistant. Flexigro’s title says two panels, and the items field says 1. When the lines conflict, plan around the weaker, more specific one. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects goods to match their description.
